    Hey dude! Great to see your working on the electrical system. I've been trying to figure out why my CB isnt giving any spark. I'm guessing the ignition coils are toast but I really cant seem to find a solid tutorial/video on this for a CB online. I have no idea what it should read, like the resistance and what modes I should measure it on. Are you maybe planning on doing this? Love to hear it.
    All the best.

    Taylor, my 78 CB550 was running the batt dead and I found a loose ground and put it all back together. I wanted to verify the stator’s AC output but couldn’t get a reading of anything over a volt on any of the windings on the stator. (All winding lake test good, no windings are grounded,,, I have a new reg rec hooked up. If the battery voltage is maintained with no drop while idling and revving.... should I think it is good?

    Taylor, I know this is a multi-faceted question but... How do you get a bike to be able to kick start consistently? I have a 550F and wonder what's "normal" in the amount of kicks I should be hitting for it to start. If it matters, carbs are clean and synced with pods (40 and 105 jets). I'm using a dyna ignition.

    So the screws are Phillips they just follow JIS standards rather than SAE and you are correct the Allen bolts are not standard. With the stock voltage regulator/rectifier the voltage drops to around 12.8 at idle and around 14.1 at 3,000 rpm. With the original charging setup it was not uncommon for people to run the battery dead because they only rode the bike around town and never got the RPM's up to fully charge the battery. These newer ones do a much better job in a much smaller package you gotta love that. :) Gratz on hitting on the first try I wound up having to replace my entire loom on my 550 because it had so many shorts it would not charge the battery.

      They are actually Phillip head that is why those screw drivers fit the opening. They just follow a different standard like SAE and Metric wrenches they are all wrenches that work on bolts and nuts just different standards. You can use a regular screw driver on those phillips screws on Japanese screws however if one is really stuck you will have issues if you don't have the #3 JIS phillips bit.

      Clearly you are just looking to troll and have no real experience with this stuff so believe what you want I am done.

    • @dowser81
      @dowser81 6 лет назад +1

      Ha ha Troll far from it i think you must be referring to yourself, i am just trying to tell you in the nicest possible way that you are wrong and clearly have no idea what you are talking about. The fact that you think a phillips screwdriver fits the profile of a JIS screw head correctly is slightly worrying.

    i like your videos. keep it up. one question though, web changing from AGM to LiFePo4 batteries in these offer bikes, does the charging system in the bike itself (alternator) have to change as well?

    Check it with the lights on my little honda started breaking down after half an hr turns out the early hondas use the ac circuit on the lights it was blowng tail lights if you reved it to hard so i changed the voltage regulator then i checked voltage and it was low barely over 12v because the frame was powder coated it did have a bad earth i cleaned it up and got 13.5 v and it was running well untill i turned the light on 15 20 minutes it started breaking down got a new stator and rotor coming

    most of the time the continuity from yellow wire to ground is due to a dead rectifier.
