I’ve done the alcohol wipe down on 4 occasions in the last month. Today I added a little bit of olive oil and the patina has started! It has this, I guess, warm glow going on. It’s kind of hard to explain, but I like it and think it will get better by itself going forward.
Great to hear! I’m at the same stage and now when I wipe whe case very little color is transfered to the wipe. Should mean most of the coating is removed. Hope yours continue to get better. Which case do you have?
It must be mostly the coating as it is almost not any color on the wipes now as the coating is removed on my case. But the dye will gove of some color too so there will probably always be some on the wipes.
Yea you can, but the last few years all Apple leather cases only got patina/aged on the edges. Which is not very good looking for lost people. The coating of paint is very thick.
Well, I tried using very little Saphir Renomat to clean after 6 months of use and surprisingly it developed patina. Thankfully I did not apply Saphir Renomat pretty heavy otherwise the brownish color of Nomad leather case will be heavily removed from the case as it may turned to light brown. Just be careful if anyone want to use Saphir Renomat for your leather phone case.
Review is up, tho mainly initial thoughts as I didnt keep it. The leather did not feeling much better then apples case and the magsafe magnets was weaker. I doubt it will patina very well.
Is it better to apply leather balm every time after I wipe the case with alcohol? Or only occasionally apply the leather balm like once a week while I use alcohol wipes daily? Thanks.
Is there any specific reason to use ready made wipes, or will red spirit also work? Have you tried a combination of steel wool and liquid spirit (alcohol)? The steel wool will help the prosess go a little faster, but is more gentle then sandpaper. And you need to use steel wool without sope in it. Not the usual kitchen type.
I ordered some generic alcohol wipes off Amazon and the must have been very strong because i broke through the coating after just 3 days. I ordered leather balm as well, but i think I’ll just let the case darken naturally and see is it needs any on the back. So far though I’m super happy with the smooth feel of the leather over the plastic feel it had originally.
Thanks for sharing this! I used sandpaper on my previous case and loved the look, but did not care for the rough raw feel. I suppose I did not use fine enough sandpaper. Does the alcohol method leave a smooth leather feel, or will it be more like a raw leather feel?
Hi! My first time over here, i just received my first ever ordered Apple leather case and i got shocked of how orange it is. I then found your channel and I’m starting the process to make it look as leather must look. I was wondering if you must apply leather balm after each morning alcohol wipe, or after two weeks. Thanks a lot!
I would do it as the last step, alcohol wipe until all coating is gone. Might take several days of 3-4 wipings aday and then after it is completely dry. Leather balm! Or just use it, your hands produces oils too :).
I love the Bullstrap case but they have one downside I hate, the dye the use is so strong some magsafe gets stained. I used the white apple battery pack and white anker battery packs and they’ve stained from the case.
Bullstrap is best looking leather case imo but the open bottom is a no go for me. I like my phones too much to get them scratched. I want to upgrade next year. I hope they close the bottom for the 15 models.
I have an Umber leather case that I’ve been using for over a year. It’s dark on the edges and around Apple logo where I usually keep my fingers. Is it worth trying to force patina with this method on a used case? Would the dark spots around the edges rub off with alcohol wipes?
The dark spots will temporarily get lighter, but all other areas will get darker with this method. You will still see a difference but should be leds noticable if you get sll the coating off the other areas.
Hi thank you for your video! I wonder what kind of leather wax can I use? I have to use leather balm or coconut oil? or leather cleaner or leather lotion or leather wax can be used?
I use a gentle leather balm in a paste consistency to ease application. You could just let your oils from you hands do the work over a few weeks. I would avoid anythin liquid like oils, very easy to apply too much. Wax I have no experience with unfortunatly.
It is real leather but not sure how it will patina. There is no leather smell and it feel slightly plasticy so it probably wont fair much better then apples own cases :(.
I’ve had Mujjo cases in the past and in my opinion they are worse than the Apple brand case. They do not age well at all. If you’re wanting real natural patina get a Bullstrap, Ryan London, or Andar case.
Thanks for your thoughts, I just checked the mujjo case out and it didnt have any leather smell etc. So probably wont fair better then apples own cases :(.
This is literally the best, I'm obsessed with leather cases and I just discovered that you can change patina🤩

@@KimBertilsson I have the umber too.

What color phone case is this? The saddle brown?
Why do you do that ? Can’t you just let the case age naturally?
It’s a serious question. I’m gonna get my first leather case soon…

There are so many better options for a leather case than Apples in and around the price point. Apple cases have been garbage the past 2-3 years.
Yes agree, I think Andar and Bullstrap are among the best. Still many, including myself, choose apples 😅

Please show an update on the case!
I'm waiting for a review on the new mujjo case. It's very interesting to see the result.

Tried alcohol wipes on my orange leather case and it started turning white. Guess I ruined it.

Can you show us how would the forest green look like after patina?
I have the green one and I want to see what happens too

For me the sanded cases smoothed out after a few weeks. But alcohol wipes makes it smoother and more like satin.

Can you give an update on how the Orange patina turned out?
Try the bullstrap case. They have a great natural patina.
I just checked it out online. I see a few negatives with that one. $85, open bottom, and the buttons don't look metallic.
The Andar cases are similar with closed bottom and metallic buttons. At least for the 14.

@@Mr.White1 I like the open bottom. Contrast the leather color with the phone color

Can anyone tell me the point of the petina stuff? I don’t understand what’s happening.
Could I do to the midnight case as well? I can’t stand the paint peeling around edges and the actual leather on midnight is black

How can I get case like this
Can I use non-alcohol anti-bacteria cleaning wipes instead? Like for kitchen and surfaces use.
I wouldn't think so, as you need the alcohol to break down the chemicals of the coating.
Thx a lot mate
What type of leather balm do you use ?

Have you heard of saddle back leather co?
They make an all leather case. No plastic mold
Yea I have, should check them out if I can :) thanks for letting me know
Nice!
We’re waiting for mujjo case video pro 🔥 🔥
Sorry for the delay, video is up now :) kinda basic but how you get something out of it.
ghhhey. do it naturally looks much better
