The shape and rubbery grip of the Mac Ride seat is crucial for keeping the kid planted on the seat, in my opinion, and my favorite part of the Mac Ride. I also prefer the lower position of the Mac Ride seat over the taller position of the Shotgun Pro seat, especially because small, light weight children don't really care about or need much, if any, significant cushioning, and the Mac Ride's rubber seat gives enough cushion. The feet straps on the Mac Ride also keep the kid's feet locked in well, which could be a major safety function. Overall, I think the Mac Ride is just a more efficient design and every component seems to be really high quality including the stainless steel bolts.
If I’m a larger rider, 285lbs, would it best to do a seat like this or a trailer? Just wondering about frame and tire capacity. I have a Specialized Hard Rock ultra bike (19” frame)
What's the "unicorn" mount you're using on the camera pointed back at the cockpit? I've currently got my GoPro mounted direct to the bars, and when it's looking back at us, my daughter on the Shotgun seat is so close to the camera it's difficult to keep her in frame. Any product links would be hugely appreciated.
Official word for all off-road seats is 2 years old. They really need to be able to hold their heads up strong and be able to listen to you. We had one child start at 18 month but he was super strong and we took it very mellow
Thanks for the review. Will this kind of child seat in a position which would block your peddling movement? Especially would knees hit the back of the ankles of your kids?
We’ve used a few a few packs. Outentc outentic.com/en/ Has an awesome pack but it is a spendy one. We’ve used Dakine and Osprey too. Most any pack with a full face helmet carry option can work
Hi, I’m thinking to buy one of those but I was concerned about frame issues with my new mtb bike since it has a carbon frame (SC Tallboy) ... do u think is this ok? Or the regular shotgun is also ok with carbon frames?
Both companies have very similar affiliation programs. Moreover both companies are run by talented and and creative people who love to get more kids on bikes. We have ridden bikes and had beers with both too. More confident kids on bikes is what is it all about.
Thanks for video and info. My son just turned two and is just starting on his Strider so I know the trails are right around the corner for him. I have a curious question not about the seats but on the backpack you have that the balance bike is strapped to in the video. Is it specific for the balance bike or is it a specific strap you have? I see myself wanting to enjoy the seat and also having him enjoy the balance bike on the same ride so bringing the bike with me instead of heading back to the truck would be perfect. Thanks again!
Most backpacks with a full face helmet carrier will work. It is still a little awkward and you have to watch it in tight singletrack but worth it for the extra riding you get with them.
Great vid! I currently own the original shotgun, and it seems that with the pro the kid would sit higher (due to spacing between the top tube and saddle). No issues with the kid helmet bumping into your chin with the pro version?
@@TheBikeDads ok thanks. Did you try? Or is it obvious when you have both next to each other? Different outside diameter? Guess I will have to get both
The main advantage of Shotgun Pro is the seat can be adjusted to be level where the macride is fixed. This makes a difference if you have high stack and a low seat post clamping position. The seats are also different with the Pro being a padded traditional seat that sits a couple inches higher and the macride, a harder concave moulded seat that keeps the kids secure.
I'm a tad disappointed that for $250 it doesn't come with the handlebars like the ShotGun original had with it. I will check it out, great review!
Thanks for still filming at 1am!! This was great
Thanks so much for the review guys! We're pumped to get The Bike Dads seal of approval 🤘

Thanks for the comprehensive review. I will be making this purchase for my 2 year old son.
Glad it helped. Enjoy the journey and let us know if you have any questions

Planing to get mine. Using the same bike, the Optic :D
Optic is a rad bike
Great thank you for the review! How old were your kids when you started them on the shotguns?

@@TheBikeDads Okay great thank you! I may start introducing it slowly for some neighborhood rides!
@@Erik-py4jm yes. And ride with it without a kid on it to get used to it as well. No rush
Thanks for the review. Will this kind of child seat in a position which would block your peddling movement? Especially would knees hit the back of the ankles of your kids?
This seat will not interfere with the adult’s pedaling.
How do you secure the bike on your back?
Lots of bags have full face carrying options and I just kind of stuff it in.
Hi. Thank you for the helpfull video ; Could you say me wich backpak you use to pickup the bike of your choke?

How do you get on and off the bike when you have the child seat attached?
@@remusb put you feet on the ground and lift the child on and off.
A dropper seat post helps with stability
@@TheBikeDads yes, I just lowered my seat to make sure I reach the ground. A dropper post would be a wonderful addition.
I have the older version of the shotgun. Do you recommend I get the new version or the Mac Ride?
Depends on a few things. All the info here:

Hi, which camera mount are you using to get the mtb selfie shots? Any suggestion? Thanks!
I bodged a bunch of tripod arms together from Amazon so nothing super secure. The insta 360 camera seems to be popular to get similar shots

Both are ok, but not Id go with the pro version. No frame contact with the pro version at all. The new tallboy is a sweet bike
Thanks for making videos to help get more parents on bikes with their kids! Just curious, were you compensated in any way by either company?
Both companies have very similar affiliation programs. Moreover both companies are run by talented and and creative people who love to get more kids on bikes. We have ridden bikes and had beers with both too. More confident kids on bikes is what is it all about.
And no, none of our reviews are paid for.
Should kids need to be able to ride a balance bike before they ride this kind of seat? Thanks
No they don’t need to be able to ride a balance bike yet. Minimum age is 2 years old as well.

Yes a little higher but with the adjustable legs kids dont stand up as high. I had a 4 and 6 year old on it no problem
The adjustable length of the legs is a huge improvement for sure.
@@niekdewinter1579 they definitely went to town on their redesign.
Is the Shotgun Pro headset spacer compatible with the Macride seat? Or in other words, are the spacers of both brands interchangeable?

works great very happy with it
Love love love theses videos!!!! Killing it!!! But this looks like a knock off of a Mac Ride
Both seats are great. They do look similar but have some great different engineering differences. Look up the LOCT seat. It was the first.
Hello which mount did you use to record this?
Just a few different clamp tripod mounts
I am a bit disappointed. I hoped to see differences between those two more precisely. The conclusion "either is good" is a bit too ambiguous.
Sorry it is true. Both great seats. You can go wrong with either one
The shotgun pro is a blatant theft of the macride design! Save yourself $45 and get the macride..
