    Almost everybody was saying wrestling (meaning takedowns) would be the future of adcc. Turns out, it was wrestling to favorable pinning positions (scrimmage wrestling) that's important. Danaher is way ahead of everyone else. Wonder what he's got next up his sleeve.

    excellent video as per. I liked your standing insights especially. I hadn't spotted the access to the far side underhook that Tackett was getting when he went Russian tie, that's an awesome little detail.
    It was interesting to see Tackett fighting for underhooks more (which I hadn't seen as much of) and that's something I've seen from izaak quite a lot, so I wonder if that's something Izaak showed Tackett since they've been training together or if it's just a coincidence!

    Man people attacking those fast foot locks from when i play RDLR completely changed how i have to play. Im way more aware of my outside foot position. I keep just my toes on the hip now and try to give a hard push away, immediately clear my outside leg and look to wrestle up on a single. There is also a beautiful john wayne style sweep you can hit from RDLR that only requires the RDLR hook and ankle grip which means i can keep my outside leg away and look to use it to create momentum for a kiss of the dragon back take attempt.

    I feel like a lot of people can relate to my biggest problem with picking up wrestling, which is being explosive and fearing that my knees (which click and pop non stop and hurt most of the time) aren’t gonna hold up if I go as hard as the wrestlers in my gym. Anyone have any advice on how to mitigate this besides stretching all the time and frequent leg days, both of which I’ve been doing but don’t seem to make a huge difference?
    Edit - i prefer defensive wrestling and trying to force either standing clinches where I can foot sweep or make the other guy shoot a sloppy takedown for me to grab an arm in guillotine so I can convert it to a darce or an arm out

    • @mraBJJ33
      @mraBJJ33 Год назад +3

      I'm in the same boat, I'd stick with the defensive wrestling and minimize the shots you take. I have a sequence that uses the Uchi mata into an ankle pick, and if you're able to a "flying" triangle. I say flying triangle because it's from a standing position but it's not a jumping one because it would be as they post their hand on the floor so it's not as much of a flying triangle in my opinion. The great thing about this sequence of attacks is that I can achieve it with the underhook or overhook so it's relatively easy to set up (I actually prefer to uchi Mata with the overhook myself)

    • @MercedesSLSJpak
      @MercedesSLSJpak Год назад +2

      @@mraBJJ33 thanks for the insightful reply, the uchi mata is def a skill I should sharpen, I usually lose the pummeling battle as I try to set it up so I should prolly work on positioning before throwing

    • @mraBJJ33
      @mraBJJ33 Год назад +1

      @MercedesSLSJpak just work on the "push-pull" concept, that helped my success a ton. As you drive into them they will drive their weight back into you, and you change direction and pull them over your hip and sweeping leg as their momentum takes them with the throw.

    • @MercedesSLSJpak
      @MercedesSLSJpak Год назад +2

      @@mraBJJ33 ye those kinds of principles I’ve been working on for a while especially because of the excellent tutelage from wrestlers in my gym - being a Pennsylvanian we have a ton of extremely solid wrestlers - but my problem is always pummeling to a good position, working on faking them out with direction switches, but then just struggling to level change and complete a takedown or being way too obvious with my throw attempts and them just pummeling out and throwing me instead lol. It’s just gonna take practice honestly but working on my judo is probably the right path

    I know Tackett beat Varela with that scramble towards the end, but tackett lost that battle soundly on the feet. I really liked seeing him incorporate that style of wrestling (very similar to Varela’s style) in that match. Heavy collar ties, underhooks, shuck bys to the back, sprawls…I think that style would suit him well if he keeps working on it.

    I take it an ankle lock grip keeps you far safer than using the scoop grip ?

  • @benphilo4672
    @benphilo4672 Год назад

    Tackett won every wrestling exchange and lost on the way down to the mat, it was frustrating to watch, his hand fighting, entries, were great. It makes me think of something Wade Schalles said about training takedowns, you have to start from the takedown and work backwards, don’t train the hand fight/entry/shot 1st, get your perfect position for the takedown and train from there, THEN figure out how to get there, AFTER you know once you’re there it’s a score.

    • @benphilo4672
      @benphilo4672 Год назад

      But I also believe that while wrestling is great it’s not as important as it’s being sold to be right now, and from what you’re saying here your next data will show something of that nature. But, is this just studying takedowns? BC a lot of ADCC strategy is top/bottom wrestling too.
