  • FOX Sports’ lead college football analyst Joel Klatt breaks down the film of his top 5 Quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft. Klatt explains what he looks for in every QB prospect, focusing on their football IQ, pocket control, arm talent, creativity, and mobility. Then, he describes what makes Caleb Williams an elite talent in every category before discussing why he believes Drake Maye is right behind him at number two. Klatt then reveals how he evaluates Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix Jr., J.J. McCarthy, and Bo Nix, who Joel has ranked just outside his top five.

I hear from PFF Jayden Daniels has a HIGH Sack ratio .. I think that matters ... as opposed to Penix's low sack ratio he takes. ... Make no mistake .. Penix could be special in the NFL in the right situation. ... Penix threading the needle vs Texas 19 yards a dart .. was NFL Stuff.

@JoelKlattShow...you forgot the most important aspect of determining if you have an Elite QB prospect. It is a quarterback's mental toughness. Without this nothing else matters.
This is why many of you can't see why these guys turn out to be bust. If I see my QB crying in his mom's arms cradled like a baby, wearing pink fingernail polish and consciously putting on a dress...my friend I have to question his mental wellness. He doesn't look like a leader of men to me, he looks like a head case.

You know what’s not sufficiently tested with Penix? His leverage and pitch selection under pressure. The sample size isn’t large enough yet, and for a team to risk their R1 pick on him is gonna be tough. He will be pressured in the NFL, so we’ll have to wait and see. That first Caleb play shows exactly the opposite of a high football IQ and it shows up on film a lot. NFL teams can take advantage of him. You always take the swing there in the nfl you had two blockers vs two defenders and if his WR can make a safety miss it might be a house call. NFL zones will break on that ball he threw to the 4th read. Caleb constantly shows choppy progression movement, where he’s hitching and staying on reads far too long half the time, and then other times he passes up the easy read for an attempted home run. Not gonna work at the next level. Teams will literally run cover six(Lou Anaroumo) and force you to take the right read. Guys like Jaden and Penix take the screens, and don’t hesitate to move through progressions quickly and consistently because they’re not relying on what they can do when the play breaks down.

Is there any argument that Jayden Daniel’s played against a lot better defenses than drake maye and Caleb Williams? I’m just curious, I agree with Joe he makes good points.

Maye had an average 55% completion rating against Notre Dame, Miami, Clemson, Oregon, Miami (again) and Clemson (again). These were the top 6 defenses he played against from 2022-2023. Jayden Daniel’s had an average 65% completion rate against Florida State, Alabama, Georgia, Florida state (again) and Alabama (again). Again these are the top 6 defenses he played 2022-2023.

No Drake shouldn’t go second. I love your stuff, but Daniels fits what Washington wants to do better. Then you got New England, and word is they love JJ, they think it’s Brady come again. Now the place you would want Maye to go to is the Vikings because they can work with him. Maye has size, he has a canon, but he is inconsistent, he does throw routine passes in the dirt. People talk about oh he’s Herbert, or Allen. He looks like Cutler to me, has the same elite qualities Cutler had and the same inconsistencies. A good coach can help him fix that, and that’s the Vikings. I’m a Bear fan but if you want him to succeed, you want him with the Vikings and to go 4.

This is his QB rankings list, that's not the same as which order they should be drafted in.
He thinks Maye is a better prospect than Daniels, nothing to do with which one fits better in Washington.
Also, whatever "word" you're hearing about NE loving JJ is smokescreen, there's no shot they take him over Maye.
NE is more likely to trade back than take JJ at 3, lmao, ignore the noise right before the draft.

This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.
You are trying to sound like you know what you are talking about but, it’s all nonsense.
What was Allen like in college? He was massively inconsistent and his accuracy was wayyy off. Cutler was much more pure talented of a thrower of the football than Allen.
Mayes comp is definitely Herbert if you knew what you are watching.

Generational talents do not have "fit" concerns... If he fails he is NOT Generational. Thank God you are not a scout.... Maye does not do anything better than Jayden Daniels. Daniels is the best QB in this draft & will succeed no matter where he goes... great quaterbacks make coaches legendary ... I been laughing at the media saying its the opposite at the pro-level ... Andy Reid did ever win the "Bid One " in Philly and they called him the Coach who cant win the big games... now he is one of the best.
