    I've been now listening to this for over 30 years and guess what... never get fed up and I probably never will. I'm so glad you gave answer to my demand. Keep on travelling through this band's work, I swear it's no wasting time. I'd like to see you react to Common Ground from 1987 album Nomzamo. Different singer here but still very good and the music remains powerful. Looking forward to seeing you delightfuly react to some more IQ. Cheers !

      Hey Alex! Was happy as always to get back into more IQ. Too much music from them, not enough time! Added another vote for Common Ground. Why did I think that it has always been the same lead singer from their start till now? So many bands here I guess it's hard to keep track 🙂 Cheers my friend!

    Songs from "Ever", my favourite IQ album (although "Subterranea" comes quite close). Peter Nicholls' vocals have indeed improved greatly since the early days - you can't tell here without the video but he can be quite the showman too! Thanks for featuring these two tracks: they're the perfect tandem for an album closer. 🐝

      @@retroreactions.... If it's the 2018 video (with suit & tie) I can see why he reminds you of Neil Tennant. By then he' mellowed a lot compared to his early days, when he showed up in funny costumes and make-up, a legacy from Peter Gabriel no doubt 🙂

    Awesome, two of my favorites! 👌😎👍 "Came Down" is a very "somber but triumphant processional" IMHO, like you say could be used in a movie, maybe where the heroes/survivors of a war or disaster are leaving for or arriving home with relief and hope for the future but also burdened with the loss of life/property/innocence etc.? 🤔

      It's a shame 'Came down' is so short. It has an almost religious/Biblical feel to it. A sort of 'came down to the Garden of Eden' metaphor? I love storytelling like Tony Banks songwriting.

    I listened to a lot of IQ in the late 80s and throughout the 90s, including this album.
    If you want to hear the same kind of Peter Gabriel-era Genesis-inspired ambience, then check out Swedish neo-prog band Twin Age. Start with "In the Well" and "Marble Island" from their 1996 album Month of the Year.

  • @grahamharley4895

    So glad you got around to these as promised. I think Peter Nicholls voice has got stronger as he's got older. Mike Holmes lead guitar deserves a mention. Their newer albums are excellent but outside your time frame. You covered 'Further away' about a year ago... Any chance of a re-run?

    • @retroreactions....
      @retroreactions....  3 месяца назад

      Yes, much more to go, but had to hit these 2 up first. Really want to get back to Subterranea album as well. Yes, I remember I heard "Ocean" and loved it... in fact I'm playing it again right now!! Might have heard part of The Road of Bones song too. I will try to at least listen to some of their recent work over on Patreon, so I can hear more of their 2000s brilliance. Hmm, never thought of doing a 2nd reaction to the same song. Something different for sure, never seen a reactor do that... Thanks for watching my friend!

    • @grahamharley4895

      I was less enamoured with Subterranea Brandon. I mentioned repeating 14.30 minute 'Further away' cos I'm in full 'plug IQ' mode and for me many of their best works are post 2000. I suspect you've many new subscribers who didn't hear it first time around as well. Really pleased you've shown off these two.

    First time I have ever heard IQ. WOW! Brilliant. I can see the influences from great bands that came before. It actualy eminds me a bit of Genesis. But they still have their own sound. THANKS Gerald

    • @grahamharley4895
      @grahamharley4895 3 месяца назад

      I got divorced from 'new' Genesis after Abacab. Nothing to do with the Gabriel/Collins/ Hackett argument. It was the structure and writing. I stuck to old favourites for years until these guys hit my eardrums and re-ignited my interest.

    • @GeraldNewton-h5x
      @GeraldNewton-h5x 3 месяца назад

      @@grahamharley4895 I am still married to Genesis but we have the odd argument. If I was given a pound for every time I have heard that I would be a multi billionaire by now. I got into Genesis in 1977 and collected all their vinyls. When Abacab came along and I rushed out to buy it and listened to it. I said what the f... is this. But it grew on me and every following ablbum afterwards. I grew up musically and gained more understanding. I can write a very long list of the reasons why Genesis changed direction. It was inevitable and
      they were always changing, progressing, evolving etcetera. You may not like it but bands write and perform the music they want to. I am an artist and the paintings I do now are not the same that I was producing years ago. What they did they did and its all been done before. As for IQ yes a great band but its nothing that I have not heard before. Writing and creativity changes over time and often reflects the times, trends, ideas, influences etc....but it does not keep repeating itself, you become a cliche of yourself THANKS Gerald.
