Masterful flying, Adam! That is truly one beautiful aircraft. Watching your videos reminds me that I understand the square root of diddly squat with set up and extreme flying, but you make it all so enjoyable 😄👍
Just put the maiden on mine 30 min ago I bought from buddy via your link. Your rates, expo and cg settings were right on the money. Your battery recommendations for the 3200 is correct also. I flew it on the recommended 2200 and it was done at 4 min. Already ordered a couple 3200s before I even left the field. Thank you so much for the info and the channel. The setup info is priceless.
Hey Mike thank you man! Glad the info helps. I'm really impressed with that Decathlon. I knew it would be good, but its even better than I thought it would be. Enjoy yours!
@@ModelAV8RChannel it flys great!! It’s first flight was in a 10mph crosswind without a gyro of any kind and it was rock solid. Plenty of power and just dipped the wing into the wind on landing and she came down nice and smooth on one wheel. I've been eyeballing this plane for a while now and finally pulled the trigger and bought one. Apparently the guys over at OMP are listening to the reviews because the plane that arrived has been updated with some minor changes that a lot of people have mentioned. The top hatch now has a latch to keep it secure, the inner frame/ battery tray is made out of carbon instead of ply and there was a seriously strong shipping brace holding the tail in place. Cosmetically the wing braces are now anodized red aluminum which I'm not a big fan of but its not terrible. I'll also mention that my tail was perfectly square when assembled so hopefully its the same for most people. Now I just need the weather to align with my work schedule so I can fly this beauty.
Great video and some awesome 3D flying with it, I hadn't looked in a while but when it was new they wasn't a whole lot of guys flying it anything except scale. I wanted to see what it would do. Only thing i didn't care for was the wing structs Knowing i would probably need to remove the wings for storing it. hum I wonder what next weeks video could be.... See you then..

Brother Adam, what a fantastic look at this model!! I've always liked these aircraft, I think they were derived from the Citabria, right? Both Bellanca? Anyhoo, saw LOTS of these things plying the skies over San Diego, and I've always liked the cool paint schemes, whether they be yellow, red, blue, what have you. Thanks brother John! I've always loved the Bellancas. Look up R.J. Gritter Super Decathlon aerobatics. Dude is a firmer sponsored 3D rc pilot turned full scale airshow pilot. Never seen anyone fly a Decathlon better.
Thank you so much Adam! Mine is shamefully still in its wrapping till I find the time. I really appreciate the set-up page and, for if I need it, the business card trick: I now feel so much more relaxed about gluing in the tailplane! Also, good to know I need a 12x6! I loved the scale flying as that's primarily why I bought it but most videos I watched only had it flying like its backside was on fire! Yes, I know I'll also be doing some 'naughty' stuff with it as well! Did you make the holes in the lower rear to let out the air and stop the top hatch from blowing out?
Brother you are so welcome, glad this is helpful. I love this thing! I did cut the holes out (well burned them out with an old soldering iron). There is a big one just behind the cowl and two small ones at the back. I still blew it off, but it was on like the 5th crankshaft. I just taped it down after that. It will stay on during normal acro if the holes are opened up. That BTW is covered in the manual. Funny...no CG, but all about some holes!
A nicely detailed and thorough review again Adam, with great flying again. Interesting to see how far you could push beyond the natural envelope of the airframe, beyond what most owners would achieve. The big let-down for me is the blank side cabin windows! I get it with small foamies, but on a medium sized balsa? Really! Disappointing.
Thank you Dave. It looks like this was built with the mission of keeping it as light as possible...which is the main reason it flies so well. Windows would require frames, changing the position of a few bulkheads, and adding some reinforcement. Plus you'd need some interior so they aren't pointless, and all that would add weight. Looking at the oversized control surfaces and throw, I think they intended for it to have the wide, capable flight envelope it has.
Thanks very much! Our balance point is 79mm from the leading edge of the wing with the plane right side up. Just as an FYI, on our reviews we always have a "set up info page". It is at 14:20 in this video. There is other really good information about the set up on the Decathlon.
Man I want one of these even more now. It looks like the faux windows can be cut out, is that true? Looks like the frame has an opening the same shape, at least the front looks like it. It would look awesome with some clear windows. Are the flaps hinged at the bottom or could you use them as full span ailerons? Or would it need them? I was hoping to be able to do that on my great planes citabria, but their hinged at the bottom. So far it hasn't been quite as aerobatic as I'd like. It'll do slow scale moves but nothing high energy like the omp. Glad to see it on the channel. I think you convinced me to get one. Looks like a load of fun! I will be absolutely sure to use your link to order it when I do!
Hey Jake! I reckon you could cut them out but you'd need to build a frame around that. It doesn't have flaps, just big ailerons. I don't think full scale Super Decathlons have flaps either? You'd love it though!
@ModelAV8RChannel dang it looked like there was already a window cut out and just had covering over it. But no your right the full scale doesn't have flaps, at least not all of them. I know some citabrias have them some don't. Not sure if its the same with decathlons but I think not. Maybe I'm confusing it with the bighorn. That was some good flying tho 👌 I'd really like to get one but at the same time I need to try and stay focused on saving up for a new pilot rc plane. I have my eye on a new green/blue 31% slick. Kind of a pipe dream but maybe hopefully

Adam, incredible channel and review. I recently added this plane to my hanger. Question for you. Where did you end up with the CG on your model? I'm seeing 70-75 mm online. Is that where you ended up? I want to maiden this week and want to be sure I don't end up with a tail heavy model. I'm a sport flyer not a 3D pilot! Thank you for the awesome review and especially all of your time and dedication!
Hey thanks very much! We appreciate that. So a little info to help you navigate the channel - On every episode that is a Review, there are chapters in the description so you can always go back to whatever part of the review you'd like for reference. There is always a Set-up chapter that includes a set-up info page at the end of that chapter. Pause on that, and every detail of our set-up is listed for you to check out. It's also good to watch that chapter as well so because we explain why we set the plane up the way we did. On this one, we are at 79mm from the leading edge of the wing, plane right side up. For a sport pilot, you may prefer it forward of that. I'd start forward anyway at 70mm and move it back if you feel you need to. Watch the set up chapter...this some has some details you might want to hear. Thanks for watching and have a blast with yours!
I love me a good high wing aerobatic plane....with bush tires...lol I have 3d planes too but I just love my timber x and super decathlon....I want to get the new pilot rc skywolfe v2 she looks like a dream either that or the bushmaster
I think i asked before, if so sorry but did yours have to much right thrust stock? Mine and 2 more in our club they all 3 turn bad right on take off. none of us can keep them straight on the paved runway. This is the 1st plane i have ever had this issue with taking off. I have put a washer behind my X mount top and bottom and it helped some but still does it.. I want to say You or someone said something about a Rudder to Throttle mix? if wasn't you sorry. Thanks for any advice.
Hey Chris! No brother I didn't have an issue with the Decathlon. I don't recall any thrust angle issues. The throttle to rudder mix you're thinking of was the 1400 Pitts. Y'all have a great Thanksgiving!
@@ModelAV8RChannel Oh, Okay Thanks Adam, Something is strange with the latest batch of these planes. Hope you and Heidi Have a Very Happy Thanksgiving.
Hey Adam, can you confirm what motor is in this plane? I can't get the motor I normally run from sunnysky and thinking the one in this one might work okay in one of my planes. They show the size but not the kv. Guessing it's the blue v3 motor but maybe not?
did you have the top hatch taped? cant beleave it didnt fly off like everyone else's when you were being aggressive with it.. mine has the air exits in the rear and it still flew off ,, thanks for the set up page very informative..ron
Hey Ron...glad the set up is helpful. There is also a bigger hole to be cut right behind the cowl. The two tiny ones at the back won't do much. I cut out the big one and the first small hole at the back. The hatch hung in there until I did a crankshaft...lol. Just taped it after that.

Watch the set up chapter...this some has some details you might want to hear. Thanks for watching and have a blast with yours!
@@ModelAV8RChannel hey thanks for the response. Appreciate the information! Happy 4th of july
Any rudder mix? And has your little canopy on the top ever came off? Mine always flies off
The top hatch will come off if I do negative gyroscopic stuff. I taped it down. I use a bunch of rudder to coordinate turns, but no mix.
I love me a good high wing aerobatic plane....with bush tires...lol I have 3d planes too but I just love my timber x and super decathlon....I want to get the new pilot rc skywolfe v2 she looks like a dream either that or the bushmaster
I'm with ya. That Bushmaster is just a copy of the 65" Turbo Bushmaster Extreme Flight sold under the Legacy Aviation name. I had one...awesome.
Sure man just took a look. Its a black can. X2820-6 920kv
@@ModelAV8RChannel OH alright thanks.
did you have the top hatch taped? cant beleave it didnt fly off like everyone else's when you were being aggressive with it.. mine has the air exits in the rear and it still flew off ,, thanks for the set up page very informative..ron
Hey Ron...glad the set up is helpful. There is also a bigger hole to be cut right behind the cowl. The two tiny ones at the back won't do much. I cut out the big one and the first small hole at the back. The hatch hung in there until I did a crankshaft...lol. Just taped it after that.
Affermative , i popped that out before maiden but still popped out the hatch but being red it was easy to find
How long was your flight time on the 4s battery?
7 1/2 minutes. 4s 3200. FYI, we always have a set up info page on reviews, and the TX timer setting is always listed. 14:21 in this one.
Not listing the CG is a pretty serious oversight
Yeah manual could be way better.
