    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
    The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

      Yeah, I don't know what they were thinking when they made magic in Skyrim. "OOH! I know! Let's make it where the only way to scale your damage in Destruction is by 50% at skill rank 60, and we'll split that off into 3 different perks (one for each element)! Also potions. Skill level? Nah, just make that reduce the cost of costing. Make the base damage crap while we're at it. That's all magic gets. Enchantments? Just make it reduce spell costing more. Let them use Impact to kill anything, even if it takes a century to get the job done.
      Weapon skills? Oh, we'll give you a million ways to scale that.

    If you guys have watched his video on the school of alteration, you will realize that magic is the closest thing to achieving Chim through skill and knowledge, without the enlightenment that may have you Zero-sum; on the other hand, a true understanding of alteration may ultimately lead to the discovery of Chim, and that knowledge will contain the risk of having the learner Zero-sum.
    I think that the combination of achieving Chim and mastering majika would lead to the deepest understanding of how existence works, and maybe even why, because of knowing how. Therefore the individual will be able to accept their individuality; therefore this knowledge will keep them from having to Zero-sum.
    Perhaps it was the Dwemer's lack of Majika understanding (do to only wanting to see things out of pure logic, rather than an open balanced view based on logic with the combination of all possibilities) that kept the Dwemer from exploring all the workings of magika and therefore their lack of understanding of possibilities lead them into Zero-summing when calculating and figuring out the workings of existence. It wasn't their obsession with logic that was bad, it their failure to understand what is truly logical and what logic really is that placed limitations on their capabilities that was their faulty folly.
    The conclusion of their discovery was too much knowledge all at once. If they were to have understood magika thoroughly, they would have already suspected that (the knowledge of Chim) as an option, and therefore would have been able to accept that epiphany and enlightenment with their place in the cosmos. The acceptance of alteration majika itself to its fullest degree would have been enough alone to have one be able to cope with Chim and individually on a deeper philosophical level that would overpower Zero-summing. This is because, if you think about it, to Zero-sum, one must accept it as a final conclusion, and thereby make the choice to do so. Achieving Chim is difficult to do, because it takes willpower and greater understanding; to Zero-sum is the same thing, just on a much lesser scale of understanding and willpower. Whether achieving Chim or Zero-summing, both are concluded as a choice to decide on either happening to the self.
    To those without the knowledge, they get neither; instead they continue on with other beings having the choice over influencing their lives, and what happens to them in the afterlife. Thalos, for example, created both Cyrodiil and Sovenguard for these people, because he cared about the average man and had extraordinary love for his people.
    Hail general Hjalti Early-Beard the most important and greatest of the divines, and Vivek, and Ysmir's blessing upon you all. If we can, create fire and ice, alter existence, and cure diseases, we can accept (acceptance goes beyond tolerance) other races into our societies, and stop genocide. May enlightenment disband the Thalmor, and understanding wage war against the oppressors like lorcan and Sithus who desire to keep this knowledge from us for their own benefit. Stendarr's mercy upon those who stand with them, for the Vigalant have none to spare!

    There are two things that fascinate me about magic in the Elder Scrolls universe. 1: All living, and even unliving, things can use magic to one degree or another. Simple animals and plants, dumb Orcs, average Humans, sublime Elves. No one is truly excepted from the laws of magic. 2: There are multiple forms of magic. Magicka, the most common power behind spellcasting and the form focused upon by the Mages Guild is but one of many systems of magic. You have Magicka, the Thu'um, the Old Ways, sacred and profane Necromancy, Shadow Magic, Alchemy, Enchantment, etc. They all may stem from the same source(s), but are used and manifest in radically different ways.

    • @svartalfheimian8271
      @svartalfheimian8271 5 лет назад

      Not necessarily. Thu'um is not magic, it's more related to Divine power; remember that Kynareth granted man the power to shout. The Old Ways aren't necessarily magic by itself, more like teachings. Necromancy is definitely magic, Shadow magic is magic, Alchemy isn't magic, though many of the plants used in alchemical processes can be touched by magic; enchantment is magic, as well. Though generally, you are right in a way; the entire world is touched by magic; Aetherius itself shines through upon Nirn. Magnus tore open a hole into Aetherius, and that became the sun; but as it's not an actual sun, and a hole to Aetherius, the light we get from that hole is actually the radiance of Aetherius, so when it's day-time and you look up, you can see the reach of Aetherius washing Nirn with magic.

    • @archades115
      @archades115 5 лет назад

      @@svartalfheimian8271 Those things are indeed magic. The Thu'um is magic. Divine power is magic. As I stated, magic takes many forms. Magicka being but one manifestation of magic in Nirn.

    • @svartalfheimian8271
      @svartalfheimian8271 5 лет назад

      @@archades115 Magic is a manifestation of magicka, not the other way around. Magicka is the energy that magic controls to produce an effect, so magicka is what controls all magic.
      Thu'um is divine power more than magic. Divine power is above magic. Alchemy is not in itself magic, more-so it utilizes plants and plants contain magic. The Old Ways are guidelines revolved around the usage of Mysticism, usually applied to the Psijic. Mysticism is using magicka to go above magic and bend its laws and the laws of reality, thus making it more divine power similar to CHIM at levels of mastery.

    I hope the Mage quest line in The Elder Scrolls VI involves the Synod and College of Whispers, with the player choosing which faction to join and that affecting how the quest line plays out. It sounds like the Synod is more for direct combat play styles, using magical artifacts to bolster how you fight, while the College of Whispers is more for a pure mage playstyle.
    Also, how are the Synod and College of Whispers different enough in how they operate to be allowed to operate while the Mage’s Guild cannot?

    • @kamikage9420
      @kamikage9420 5 лет назад

      They're more of an underground movement, each one trying to gain acceptance and take the place where the Mages Guild once stood.

    • @archmagisterhikaru5792
      @archmagisterhikaru5792 5 лет назад +1

      I can give you a brief description. Both the Synod and College of Whispers are two factions which emerged from the sundering of the Mages Guild. Both organizations strive for political power over the true study of magic, so both factions vie for the Emperor's favor.
      The best way to understand the ideas of the Synod and College of Whispers is to think of it on a moral spectrum. On the conservative side you tend to not summon Daedra and use other "immoral" magics like Necromancy. That conservative side is what the Synod is. They dislike immoral magics and use that to make their case as the better organization. On the other end of the spectrum you have magics that are immoral. The College of Whispers tries to use those magics to their advantage, by summoning Daedra and going into some darker research.
      Overall both factions differ from the Mages Guild that proceded them, due to the fact that the Mages Guild was fairly central in the spectrum. The Mages Guild focused on spreading magic for the betterment of society through education, assistance, and vigilance. Neither organization fits that description seeing as both focus on politics. In terms of what each group fights as, as in classes, both are mages. The Synod tends to not use darker magics. The College has no qualms. Hope that helps.

I am a little curious about the interactions between the Mages Guild and other more local centers of magical learning, such as the College of Winterhold, and how both may have been affected. Also, I find it difficult to believe that even with the Mages Guild dissolved that all of its centers throughout the empire simply shut down and disappeared. I am wondering if there are off shoots of the guild surviving in the various provinces of the Empire. Just food for thought, let me know what you think.

    What sort of Mage's Guild/College of Winterhold do you think will be in TES:VI?

    • @kamelwurm3453
      @kamelwurm3453 5 лет назад

      in case it's based in hammerfell, i think a kind of mages guild is more of an underground organisation bc redguards are not into magic. Maybe there are sort of "witch hunters" you have to deal with. that would be cool

    I have this weird theory that magic itself is this form of a “Pseudo-CHIM” with how it works.

    The Elder Scrolls Universe would be a terrible place to live but if I lived in it I'd be staying indoors practicing magic in Whiterun and then heading to the Skyforge with some of my meager wages to buy from Eurland. Guns wouldnt be a thing in this universe and I love weaponry so I'd be buy daggers and swords instead and larping alone in my home lol. Since forensics isnt a thing I'd also probably kill Nazeem ^^

      Well the Synod take up a large part of the Winterhold quests. There is also a book or two that explain the College of Whispers. That's WHY they're in the Bruma mod; the mod makers didn't just create them out of nowhere
