My Pom Chi is a service animal, I was in a store once and they had asked if I could leave her outside next time... I said no but if it's that big a problem they could call the police and let them know that they You are refusing access to a service animal.. I offered to allow them to use my phone...
I told them the Canadian laws , now my dog is allowed in in geared and off leash lol

My Diabetic medical alert service dog is a Shih tzu. He has been working with me for 10 + years . I've had very rude people tell me "YOUR DOG IS TOO SMALL TO BE A SERVICE DOG. my response " THE SIZE OF A DOG DOES NOT DICTATE HOW INTELLIGENT THE DOG IS." " AND EVIDENTLY MY DOG HAS MORE MANNERS THAN YOU DO.

I’m applying to get a PTSD service dog for vets and the organization says that they require frequent check ins and yearly certification/ pasting a test with the dog. They also require continued treatment in therapy. They also said they keep legal ownership of the dog in case of neglect or abuse. Are these normal practices. The dog and the program are 100 percent free.

It depends on the facility. Remember, they are a business, even if they are non profit. There are also no regulations concerning training or the program, so they basically make up what they want. Remember, these are rules to get the dog, not rules for a Service Dog. If you don't like their rules, find another facility or train a dog yourself or with the help of a private trainer. And remember, since they retain ownership, they can take the dog from you for ANY reason. They could decide that a your hair style is abusive and take the dog (yes, that is probably an exaggeration, but you get the idea). I would not want that type of insecurity, or to give an organization that much power over me. They are NOT medical professionals, and you don't have to be in therapy to be legally disabled. If it were me, I would never take a dog from them. But it may work out fine for you.

Sarah, do you know how I would go about making my rottie who is an emotional support animal a service dog for mobility issues? I have a very bad back actually my skeleton has issues all over. Lol. Some meds make me dizzy and Apachi will brace himself and help me up if I fall, I never trained him for that he picked it up on his own. There is alot more to a service dog for mobility issues. Could you please guide us to the proper. Professional trainers? Thank you.
    P.S. I'm in Arizona.

Since it can be very easy to injure a dog when doing weight bearing mobility work, I would highly suggest working with a trainer to teach bracing safely. I also highly recommend getting your dog cleared by an orthopedic vet before doing mobility work, just to be sure it won't exacerbate any structural issues they might have. Good luck!

I have a Rottweiler service dog for medical alert and mobility. I wanted a dog who was sturdy and strong and loved to work. I tested many dogs with trainers and he was just right! You’ll also want your vet to clear him for mobility work, and a trainer to show you what tasks will help you and still be safe for your dog. Rottweilers are more in tune with their owners than other dogs, it’s something you can’t explain without owning one. It sounds like your boy has been helping the best he can, and that’s a great starting point for a prospect. Mine picked up scent work incredibly fast, I didn’t need to use scent jars very long at all! I wish you and Apache a wonderful partnership.🐾

Service dogs are not allowed in food service areas, Hospital operating Theatres and animal contact areas within animal parks. Service dogs must also have a 6-foot non-retractable leash attached to them at all times

I'm in Florida I have a lab mix with possibly pit. I rent a home in Orlando. My son haves a letter from his medical doctor saying my son haves depression and anxiety and the dog is his ESA pet. The landlord doesn't care. He doesn't want my dog here. He said he needs to be gone by the first of March I assume I know what he will do next. I'm scared he will get me evicted.

Sorry, but an emotional support animal is not legally considered a service animal and does not have the same protections.

This is why I would love to see the ADA make some major changes to some of these laws. I wish that ALL types of businesses and organizations would have to take a test only put on by the ADA and no one else before they could receive their business licenses in all 50 states. This would mean that before an employee to volunteer could be employed they would have to take the same test and have to pass with a 100%. Can you make a video with some thoughts about this? I am legally blind from birth but later on in life, I ended up in a powerchair and I don't have an SD but because of how uneducated people are about the ADA laws and how many people I do see in public areas it's so hard to tell if there is a fake and if there is a real one sometimes and NO I don't like registries because they are like putting a sign on your self and making the disabled person "Prove" once again they are disabled. The other thing why I don't like the way it is now is because I'm afraid that if I ever need a service dog in the future I will end up with an "Access Issue"? Thank You.

NH has great laws that put the burden on people who fake service dogs. If you bring a dog in pet free stores, you are declaring it a service dog and are subject to a large fine and or misdemeanor arrest. If you distract a real SD that’s another charge and the handler is harmed as a result it becomes a felony. Drive twenty minutes west to VT or South to Mass, fakes everywhere! I love how well the law works without putting any hardship on handlers.🐾
