The Belt Parkway is the name given to a series of connected limited-access highways that form a belt-like circle around the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. The Belt Parkway comprises three of the four parkways in what is known as the Belt System: the Shore Parkway, the Southern Parkway (not to be confused with the Southern State Parkway), and the Laurelton Parkway. The three parkways in the Belt Parkway are a combined 25.29 miles (40.70 km) in length. The Cross Island Parkway makes up the fourth parkway in the system, but is signed separately.
Anyone that isnt familiar with the belt parkway, this is the NY equivalent to the Autobahn.

The Belt Parkway was one of the Parkways designed by Robert Moses. If you noticed, no commercial trucks are allowed on the parkway. As a child, I remember my grandmother taking this road on the way to visiting her parents in Staten Island. I was in awe when we took The Verrazano Narrows Bridge.

The Belt Pkwy is probably my favorite NY Parkway.
One of my least favorites.. long way around the ass end of Brooklyn.

The brought back memories. I drove car service out of Brooklyn when I was 19. I also played in a band that used to play at the Hunting Town House back then, so spent lots of time driving on the belt.
I live in Western Suffolk County and my ex-girlfriend lives in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn. I drove on the Belt many times to see her between 2009-2014 when they were doing a massive amount of work on some of the bridges/overpasses. The difference from your drive is that I would just continue on to the Belt from Southern State, not enter from Cross Island.
The backup around 8:10 seems to be a rubbernecking scenario
When I lived in Brooklyn I don't remember the Belt or other highways being so free moving. Mike, you must time your trip for the least amount of traffic. BTW since you use subtitles can you add major intersections and POI? Thanks I really enjoy driving with you.
Profs again Mike, I wouldn’t drive this full length any more. Local tidbit: Don’t know if you noticed the cars on the parkway outside of JFK.. the cell phone lot is only free for non-commercial pickups so airport limos park on the side roads to not pay for parking. Only other thing I find interesting is the JFK approach lights.. which you can’t see any more but they’re by Cross Bay Blvd. I tried to look for them on the video but I couldn’t find them. You almost slammed into the back of that black pathfinder… welcome to why I avoid the Belt.

Oh boy you poor soul. I remember the Belt PARK way very well. I maybe in Ohio, but Jesus I don't wish that road or the Jackie Robinson on my worst enemy. Cool video's and thank you for reminding me why I left NYC. Thumbs up to you Mike.

I cannot stand this Parkway anymore. Out of date construction, too crowded, feels like a death raceway, no shoulders, the intersection of Belt and Van Wyck are not direct you have to go on service roads.
Does have its quaint spots. The last exit before you got on BQE goes through a park, the lone center gas station, couple of scenic parking areas on the eastbound direction, the riding academy only accessed eastbound.
Old, outdated and neglected infrastructure in the USA. The roadways are all cracked, guard rails mostly all bent and rusted...grass growing out of the concrete. USA needs to spend TRILLIONS and upgrading and rebuilding its outdated infrastructure.
