  • Number One Special at Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum in North Tonawanda, NY.
As the name implies, this is Allan Herschell’s #1 Special wooden carousel. What makes this model unique is it is home to a spinning “Lover’s Tub”. It’s also home to 36 jumping horses and a chariot. Built in 1914, it’s first home was at Springbank Park in London, Ontario, Canada. At some unrecorded point, it was moved to Burlington Beach in Hamilton, Ontario. From the 1950’s onward, it was housed in storage. Then, in 1982, the unique carousel was acquired for the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, where it is now restored and operating where it was first developed. It runs alongside a 1925 Wurlitzer 146 band organ and a Wurlitzer Caliola. NAPHA commends the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum for preserving living history with the Number One Special and other authentic Herschell kiddie rides.
