No AI can do this.
It won't be able to navigate the traffic.
You need to communicate with the drivers & pedestrians & construction workers & emergency services....
Sometimes you have to drive on the sidewalk or over the obstacles....
Sometimes you have to be pushy & get between the cars....
Sometimes you have to get out of the car & coordinate with others.
Sometimes you do have to break the laws to prevent dangerous situations.
Jay is always awesome!!
Not worried for my area. We have lots of roads without lines or only the yellow line in the middle. Many of the lines are old and not recognized by the car lane detectors.
Am not worried. The terrain in Los Angeles means that unless these things can navigate one ways on hills that dead end and are parked completely with neighborhood cars, not to mention, and get airport access (which LAX will not do), all they'll do is little city trips that everybody would consider not profitable anyway. I also ask people in my car would they take one and most people are not interested. They don't feel the technology is trustworthy and bad publicity has also made an impression on those who might just consider it, but later on. Wait until the cars are hacked with people who have large amounts of money or jewelry on them. I don't see it being a widespread thing for 10, maybe 15 years.
I can see drivers calling for a driverless car and then taping up the cameras!
I've heard of an SUV driver trying to run a car off the road just to see how responsive it is. You don't really want to mess with those guys.
With FSD you can enjoy the scenery more
Driverless cars can’t load luggage in the trunk at the airport. Now they want passenger to do it. What if it’s an older person who needs help. Ive done hundreds of airport pick ups and seems that most like help with luggage.
So I like the idea of owning a self driving car. That I could send to work every day. And then like a fleet account. Get a second car that goes to work.
❤❤❤That would definitely not work in San Diego, California! There are too many desperate people in my market! There is no telling what type of fluids that WILL be left behind in those cars!!
There are 300 more cars competing with those drivers and taking their few passangers.
Jay, I respect your point of view, but I think full self driving cars are coming much faster than you think. I have been using Tesla's full self driving for every Uber ride for the past 2 months or approximately 400 rides. It is safer than I am and I have had to disable it maybe only 10 times or so. It takes most of the tedious work out of driving so I can focus more on conversation with my passenger. My guess is that Tesla will go into competition with Uber and Lyft within 2 years, starting in San Francisco. My only complaint about it is that it comes to a full stop at stop signs and is a little too polite at a 4 way stop. I am happy to demonstrate it any time you like as I live close to you.
Steve
Tedious work? Maybe it’s time to give up the license, gramps. What kind of man doesn’t enjoy driving a car?
They want to build a monopoly and fired the drivers
If we allowed them to take our jobs imagen what they are going to do to our kids and grandkids.
They'll never replicate the human brain for driving. The closest you can get is an enclosed system like trains on a track. When they create a car that can drive itself through rush hour traffic in Chicago, then I'll be concerned.
I bet it already can in a Tesla with full self driving.
Negative! Not while they're recalling cars for just that reason!
I’m going to counter that. It’s more likely 20 years away. Don’t forget it takes a long time to build 1 million cars. Very long time. When I started driving Uber black in 2014. A handful of drivers would say that to me. Soon Driverless cars would take over. And I always replied back then it’ll take 25 years. Today were a little closer to that reality. So let’s say nine years later. We are closer. Testing vehicles is generally done for five years. Any type of failure can set you back, Easily five years. That’s why I believe 20 years from now.
Uber's technology attacked traditional taxis and reduced their business and you had no problem with that. Now technology may put you out of business.
Not at all. The cabs haven't gone anywhere in all this time. There will always, always be someone who will not entrust their lives or those of people they know to an autonomous machine. You don't know who has been in what situation with even having a human at the wheel.
No AI can do that.
They never use AI in heavy traffic.
Sometimes you have to break the laws.
You need to communicate with the drivers & pedestrians & construction workers & emergency services....
Sometimes you have to drive on the sidewalk or over the obstacles....
Sometimes you have to be pushy & get between the cars....
Sometimes you have to get out of the car & coordinate with others....
It's too complex.
How would AI get between the cars when there is no space?
What if a car in front of you, is not moving?
What if there is a gridlock?
AI can't break the laws & can't communicate effectively.
It's an extremely complex problem & humans are very chaotic creatures.
You have to read the body language & nuanced verbal communication....
I mean I don't really consider it hating, I'm not super concerned about being replaced by these things. I'm just concerned as a citizen that these insane deathtraps are on the road.
Fack Uber greedy company
