Excellent video. Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge. I drive in a suburb outside of NYC…Westchester County. My ideal vehicle for this location driving Uber X is a Civic. I bought it new in 2018 prior to even considering driving Uber. After three years of driving Uber, I’m averaging 33.3 mpg. The low cost of ownership, excellent fuel economy, and reliability makes this the perfect choice for me.
I just purchased a 2018 BMW 530e. I’m getting about 38mpg combined. I drive in the Boston area as well. The Lyft lux rides are nice, but they are few and far between. I feel like it’s almost a waste to drive economy rides. I just signed up for Uber (waiting on background check). Hopefully my premium rides will increase once I’m driving on both platforms.

Uber XL is currently paying: $1.296 per mile, $0.2448 per minute, $1.44 base fare. Uber X is currently paying: $0.7049 per mile, $0.2399 per minute, $0.93 base fare. Lyft is paying exactly the same, give or take a fraction of a cent. This data is relevant to the Portland, OR market. So, currently in this market it pays less than even twice as much profit per mile to drive Uber XL than X.
You need to clarify the fact that even though you're driving an XL vehicle, you're not always going to get XL fares. Although much more frequent than Uber Black or Select etc., it's still nowhere near as common as Uber X and with an XL vehicle, you'll be predominantly providing X trips in that car. That said, the cost factor is unmitigated by the fact that your expenses to operate are higher than a small sedan on the same X platform. Many drivers have gotten duped into getting an XL vehicle under guise of earning more per trip only to find out that their expenses have increased and their profits did not rise commensurate with their added costs.
@@TheRideshareHustle Another factor to consider, in order to get the most XL fares, one would have to predominantly drive at night when the demand for such requests are at its highest. That said, you will be predominantly dealing with a younger age demographic, whose propensity to be a tad belligerent and/or disrespectful (either towards you or in the manner in which they treat your vehicle, ie: refuse left behind, concealing open containers of alcohol, etc). The best times for getting the most respectful XL riders is throughout the daylight hours when they are either going towards or coming from an airport or in need of transporting large objects.

Renting/leasing a car on Uber or Lyft is a TOTAL RIP off in San Diego, CA! You will be required to invest ENORMOUS hours (10 or 12) with no real demand OR focus on the night party crew having customers throwing up in YOUR back seat in the Gaslamp district. Be aware, if you're going to be giving out rideshare driving financial advice, that driver pay rate cards, vary *WILDLY* depending on market. *HUGE* Also, I would recommend *NOT* making a significant financial commitment for rideshare purposes right now if the PUA money hasn't ended yet in your market. In the first few weeks after the PUA money ends in your market, expect to see a big surge of people returning to driving. Personally, I'm predicting that within 3-ish months after PUA money ending, most markets will be back to driver oversaturation again. My advice is, right now, wait a few months and let that shake out, then re-assess.

I got a 2014 ford edge sel in 2021. Drive it for personal and fulltime for uber/lyft. 6800 rides. When i got it. It had 24k miles now at 152k. 3yrs left on loan. So I'm good in the 15yr range for vehicle.
I'm wondering if after my loan. Only doing rideshare. Getting a new car is difficult i heard? Options? Thinking electric or hybrid and bumping up to xl. Great video btw!
My 2021 Hyundai Kona is great on gas!
Nice. What kind of gas mileage are you getting?
Nice intro and background!
Thanks!
LOL!! “I’m closing that curtain…”
LMAO
Hey,
I would love to start doing uber. I own a Tesla Model 3 and a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. What would you recommend i start off with? What category. My home is fully solar so charging my tesla doesn’t cost much at all and has hardly any maintenance, however this is my personal day to day car. I specifically purchased the Chevy Surburan to do Uber XL but i know it will be heavy on gas and maintenance. What do you honestly recommend?
Don't use that suburban. I would use the tesla and see if it makes sense for you.
I live in a small beach town. I doubt I’ll make a lot of money . I have a 2022 Equinox. I need to net at least $600 a week or i can work a crap office job .
Ask your local drivers what they make and then determine if it makes sense for you
Thanks! How about mileage limit for year on the loan car.Can you do ridesharing with the limit? Here in Canada is 20000 km/year ,requirement for car is max 10 year and a solid roof no pano(sun/moon roof). This conditions must be respected befor starting the busssines.Have great Uber day!
New sub! Excellent video!
Thanks for the sub! I appreciate the feedback
You didn't mention about Premier rides, I was waiting for that and how about a vehicle you can ride premier rides and XL, Is Lincoln Navigator a good car ?
I’m buying a Kia ev6 as my daily, I was also thinking of using it for Uber, I heard there is a program uber green, is it good? Fyi I’m not buying the car for Uber, it’s a car I was buying regardless.. fyi I live in MA too plan to TFG airport in RI and Logan, I live about 45 minutes from Logan, and 30 minutes from TFG.. Is all electric okay, I know I’ll have to probably charge for 30 minutes during my day.. I plan to use that time to clean the car thoroughly, make sure everything is setup for the next part of my day. Use the bathroom and get back at it
Yes electric is good
@@TheRideshareHustle thanks
For UBER & LFYT,; Which cars would you be pick if you had to choose right now for Miami Dade. Top to Down?
Thsnk you for your videos but must be more specific not just looking on web Toyota Honda most reliable vehicles
Can you please be more specific?
Q.
I live in Las Vegas and have a paid off 2018 dodge grand cravan with 90000miles on it.
Is it a good vehicle to do Uber, lyft and other delivery jobs and also Turo?
Is it better to open an LLC. And register the vehicle under the business account??
Good question. You know, I think with the van you would crush some XL rides in Vegas, doing both Uber and Lyft. Don't go crazy investing in LLC or anything just yet. Start driving, learn the business and then make a more educated decision. I hope that makes sense.
Personal health insurance including dental is how much per month?
Idk, do some research
Isn't choosing a car that can do both Uber black/XL, Lyft LUX/Black a good idea?
Sometimes those cars are too expensive and it doesn't make good business sense
Thanks for your videos. Really informative. Which website are you using to look for vehicles to purchase? Thanks again.
Thank you my friend, I appreciate that. Think I was using CarGuru
Enjoyed the video. Question - How can I find out if XL is good for the area where I live?
Good question! I would find a Uber Xl driver and talk to them
Great info as I’m considering doing this full time to supplement my early retirement I took and already have my health insurance for life
Nice! Thank you for commenting. When are you thinking to start?
@@TheRideshareHustle This fall quit my temporary semi retirement job and start this and see if I can make a go of it in my area.
@@russelllambert777 Thats great! Fall should be a busy time, school will be back in session. Btw, if you sign up with my link when you're ready to start, I'm giving away a free dash cam plus more. Check my channel page for details
what about a luxury car? Mercedes C300 - will that profit well?
That would be a good car for Lyft Lux or Lyft Black if it is a black car
just got a Uber Tesla 3, Renting $ 383.00 Week ... Im driving 1am shift More Customers that arnt in the Office...Dinner,Tourist,Airports...cheaper on Elect. less Traffic when 150-250 weekdays...200-400 weekends and or Events Im in South Fla. Thank you for commenting, this is great info. How much is the electric?
How much is it to charge? Did you also get the extra insurance?
Hello Do you know if a black 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sahara (not lifted) meets the requirements to drive Uber or Lyft?
Hey, thanks for commenting. It should qualify as long as it has 4 doors. Hows the gas mileage?
I got a question, My 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe XL qualifies as a Lyft XL but on the Uber platform it don't, how come a similar SUV the 2019 Chevy Traverse qualify as an Uber XL when mine doesn't, they cost the same and both have 7 seats.
Hey great question. I really don't know, you should contact Uber support for that. Thank you for commenting
Which you would suggest for Boston market? For black car. ?
Don't do it unless you're going to form a company
How about black with Tesla model 3 just for 4 months! In Nashville TN ? Any idea?
Hey, thanks so much for asking. Do you own the car?
The insurance broker I talked to said all the options he has won't do month to month payments, but 6 months all up front. Do you have a recommendation for insurance? (I'm in San Diego, CA.)
I think you're area may be different. How's you driving record?
@@TheRideshareHustle Clean. Different is not the worst thing I've heard about CA! :) I can cancel the insurance anytime for a fee (another difference in CA insurance.) But I paid all 6 months up front.
Getting a 2016 C-Max Energi w/ 53k on it for ~9k
Never go out and buy a car for uber rent or use what you have and have a back up plan to exit or just in case of deactivation.
I’m do 14 16 in 60 hours and I get premier rides
Thank you for sharing
why is finance better than cash or loan? in australia the interest is just below 10%...
Well I just don't like putting all that cash down for a car. Make small down payment and build credit
Yes but you can compare toyota sienna quality and chrysler very bad quality ..you tell me differents
Yeah more research needs to be done if you want to know maintenance costs
It’s funny nowadays used cars are more expensive than new ones same model
That’s crazy! Which car are you speaking of?
@@TheRideshareHustle was looking to buy a 3 or 4 years old corolla or Camry but when I look at Carmax or carguru they are more expensive than a new one.
@@MoMo-kt6qy that’s crazy
Do you think it’s worth it to get a Camry so I can qualify for Uber Comfort? Or should I just save my money and get a compact car for Uber X?
Get a Hybrid Camry for X.
Comfort really is not worth getting a better car. I like the advice of getting a hybrid or electric car though. Save on gas. But a 4 cylinder is fine too
Yes I agree. Thank you for commenting
Civic DX
Things have been bad judging from the Uber subreddit, would you still advise getting into carshare ? Seems like Uber is taking 50% from drivers not even sure its worth it anymore for most.
Absolutely not. Pick a better direction
100K miles in three years. Thankfully I only paid $6000.00 for the Prius V that had 146K on it. That was the best investment I have ever made, made well of $100,000 with that in three years before the engine head gasket blew.
Guys don’t get it wrong here. No way your car will be reliable after 5years doing Uber full time. The least miles you will put on is 60k each year put that in mind
Facts
Guys WAIT! Don’t buy a car now. Car prices are gonna plummet soon.
Why are they going to plummet?
I am new to Uber riding and I had about 10 long rides recently (over 30 km each) and one brand that starts with T gave me a headache each time that I rode it and it took me at least 10 hours to recover. Poor materials indoors and bad ventilation Is it possible to ban certain brands from rides?
IDK
Can you combine xand xl?
Yes
Less than 5% of your calls are Uber XL
The majority of my rides are XL
Very useful video
Thank you, I appreciate your feedback
vehicles can be a tax deduction so can renting a vehicle be one for uber
Yes
Renting/leasing a car on Uber or Lyft is a TOTAL RIP off in San Diego, CA! You will be required to invest ENORMOUS hours (10 or 12) with no real demand OR focus on the night party crew having customers throwing up in YOUR back seat in the Gaslamp district. Lyft and Uber rentals/leasing are the POOREST business model's that do not even PAY minimum wage after expenses with NO benefits!
Thank you for sharing
But now they have changed the platform. Thoughts?
Can you please elaborate? Thank you for commenting btw
???
Love your business card. Who made it?
Thanks! I did it on online myself. I forget the site
Great content as usual
Much appreciated
The thing is XL is usually gets lots of X rides in the middle of XL rides .. it's not only X rides .. plus hybrid battery because it's an old car .. Seriously it's not worth it anymore to do this rideshare crap ..
You're right, it really isn't, except if your current situation depends on it. Definitely develop your exit plan
Bro I have a UK License for 13 years we are moving in Maryland this year. Can I drive right away in Uber/Lyft?
Great question, and thank you for asking. Have you been driving for Uber in the UK? You will need to sign up with Uber in the US. Check the link in the description, I give some free trainings and there is also a free dash cam giveaway if you use my link to sign up.
You didn't mention the Tesla
What about it?
So which one of the car are you planning to get nick? The Prius or the van!!
Hey Roberto, thanks for asking! I think I'm going to go with the prius for the reason that the prius is a smaller investment.
What car are you driving?
@@TheRideshareHustle I have a 2016 Nissan Altima nick!
@@robertosongco8967 Oh nice, I bet you do well with that car
What does it cost to charge up your battery car? If you’re not set up at your house to do it? Nobody wants to talk about that.
Good question. What does it cost?
Has anyone created a business corporation that they use with there lyft/uber & for tax purposes?
You can form an LLC but if it's only you not really worth it. If you become a partner with multiple cars and drivers then it makes sense
That's great advice Mike, thank you fro sharing
2022 ford maverick.
Thanks for commenting. How do you like that vehicle?
@@TheRideshareHustle it's great, even though I ride hard, stop, go merging onto the interstate etc I still get over 550 miles out of a tank and sometimes well over 600 miles. I've done the math and I make about $200 per quarter tank working 36hrs in a week over 4 days. Could easily do $300/400..

Hybrid Camry, accord, sonata,Elantra, no compact Prius or Corolla. Tesla with 200 mile range is trash
Renting a car means you are obligated to work just to pay the rental. Uber wants over $500 a week to rent a Tesla. This advice is not good.
Well you certainly have to consider the cost
It’s actually less than 400

The best "basic" possible car you could get is a tesla. Best "bang" for the buck. Not really but uber gives you more per trip. End of story.

Hi! For Uber XL drivers, do you think they should have their settings for UberX as well or do you think they should leave it at XL only and target the people who are willing to pay more for the XL even though they are single riders, only because maybe you are the only uber available or the closest to them? What are your thoughts on this?
Everyone's situation is different. I drive XL only. Driving X with an XL vehicle is a losing strategy unless you have an electric XL vehicle
