As an EMT for 15 years and an avid outdoor person I always carry a Garmin inreach with me. The emergency location device is there for a reason. Don't take a risk on someone's life push the button :-)
What kind of cost would he have incurred if they used it?
@@susananderson1071 most rescue operations are volunteer. ambulance and air rescue would be covered by most of your insurance after deductibles. I'm sure there's different costs from different areas but the international emergency system would not send you a bill to activate EMS

When I saw the real picture of the people helping him I had to cry
OMG! He was getting to a slippery area and I was thinking "turn around!" And he did! Usually they keep going even though it's getting dangerous.

This gentleman himself is the thing that got him out of the crevasse. The other campers, rescue crew and doctors are the other reason he survived. Don't diminish someone by saying it was all just some invisible devine power doing the work.
