I honestly find that marrying Frederic to Sumia is pretty good, It allows Cynthia to get Both Luna and Galeforce straight off the bat as well as giving her parts of Fredericks good bases in str and spd, making her a really good paladin/great knight.
I'm playing awakening again and my Sumia is turning out very weird... She is level 13 and she has 8 strength and 10 magic. She only gained 2 strength in 12 levels and her magic is higher than her strength. I was lucky enough to find a shockstick on an event tile, and she's kicking ass with it.
It always annoyed me how limited Sumia is, it gives up less time to get to know her personality in supports, and I think Sumia's supports with Kellam, Stahl, and Vaike might have actually been pretty interesting Also random side note, it kind of annoys that Chrom can't pair with Miriel, it's the only restriction on Chrom's pairing I can't really justify. I mean Lissa his sister, 2 of the girls chrom can't pair would modify his daughter in such a way that I don't think fit well, 1 of them is meant to unrequited, one of them is bit too.... quirky to really pair up with chrom and the last one joins after the cutoff point, but miriel has none of those excuses.
Mriel seems to have no personal connection with Chrom at all. For the others he and Sully have known eachother for a while, and Mirebelle is a friend of his sister. No real reasons why Olivia is an option though. ( In Sumai's case, at least be thankful she's less restricted than the Spotpass characters. Damn they really got the short end of the stick in supports. I'll discuss them later because spoilers, but it's incredibly stupid they each can't support certain people they're really close to.

All of them should be able to support with Chrom because it is implied that Chrom is somewhat related to the last one (at least in my head it is), another one states that they are related to Chrom. Chrom fought the other 3. All of them don't get supports with their own family. They don't support each other. Ugh, it's just terrible. The spotpass characters were cool but so poorly done.
Not only that, [NAME REDACTED] should have at least got supports with Henry and/or Tharja, since they're both Plegian, [NAME REDACTED] and Chrom's child should have had supports because they're both decsendants of legendary heroes, [NAME REDACTED] and [NAME REDECTED] should have been able to support because they both love strength and fighting... there's just so much they could have done. Hopefully you can figure out who all the [NAME REDACTED]'s are.
TheBraveGallade Pies aren't exclusive to Sumia. Some of Donny's supports mention pies. Heck, in Sully's supports with the Avatar they mention pies where they weren't even talking about food in the Japanese version!

I think I'm going to make a reference list of every support that mentions pie. Off the top of my head, Olivia/Gaius (which makes sense because SUGAR), Vaike/Sully, Vaike/Lissa, Morgan/Nah, and Robin/Nah (jfc their entire support is about food up to the S support but at least it's actually really cute). There are probably more that I can't think of, but the hate Sumia gets for pie is so goddamn ridiculous. She's just so freaking adorable and sweet and it pisses me off when people purely hate her because of the bad localization.
Donnel/Kellam also mentions pies, I think. The localizers had a weird obsession with them. Some of the pies were different foods originally, and in other cases they weren't even talking about food at all (Morgan/Nah).
Hey I managed to make Chrom and (character's name redacted) pairing in my first playthrough, just pair the other girls before the cut off points (or if your pairing with them henry just don't get the C support), and have chrom and (character's name redacted) paired up throughout that entire chapter.
What I meant here is, it's near impossible on your first playthrough IF YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT IT. A new player going in blind would probably have no idea she's even an option, and playing blind it's unlikely Chrom doesn't have at least a C with someone else by then. (ANY C's will make him unable to be paired with said girl.)
The cool thing about Sumia is that her stat deficiencies in Strength and Defense are easily fixed early on. You have pair-up with Freddy or Vaike for a large boost in these two stats, tonics to give her +2, and a +2 Forge for Iron Lance and Javelin in case she barely misses on KOs. By the time ahe promotes she should be able to KO unpromoted enemies with Chrom Pair-Up. And after she marries Chrom and passes Galeforce to Lucina, if you find her Strength lackluster, you can reclass her into Great Knight, where Chrom's huge Speed buff actually matters.
My main file has Chrom x Sumia on it and my Sumia has turned into a very good Dark Flier now that she's got both Lancefaire and Tomefaire and all maxed caps (I'm at the post game just clearing up some dlc stuff). Pair her and Chrom up and they destroy entire maps on their own sometimes. Plus their daughters are even more amazing. I honestly don't see why so many hate this pairing not only is it adorable and makes so much sense but it makes both the kids so good. My Lucina's got Aether, Rightful King, Parvis, Aegis and Galeforce she's either dodges enemy attacks or she activates Aegus or Parvis and any damage she does take she heals with Aether. I've got a similar set up on my Falcon Knight Cynthia except instead of Rightful King she's got Lancefaire. I guess what I'm trying to say is I've seen so many try to claim Sumia is a bad option stats and skills wise and I completely disagree I like my super speedy yet still surprisingly tanky (thanks to the skills they get) Lucina and Cynthia.

People hate on the pairing because a lot of people don't like it when the game pushes one pairing on you as the "canon" one. This hate isn't exclusive to Sumia, characters like Kairi from Kingdom Hearts and Cheria from Tales of Graces get hate for being "canon" love interests too. Ninian got a lot of it when FE7 was popular as well. (It's also not exclusive to games, see Ginny and Ron Weasley from Harry Potter, two of the most-demonized characters of all time in fanfiction, all for being the official love interests of Harry and Hermione) It's because when there's an "implied canon" option they're "in the way" if you ship something else, which riles up a lot of resentment. What makes it worse is this game has the option to marry your self-insert player avatar character to anyone, and a lot of fangirls want to marry Chrom, so........

Yeah it may be canon but fanfiction fanart etc is not dictated by what is and isn't canon if you don't like a pairing then I'm sure you'll find fanfiction or fanart of the pairing you do like. I personally like canon pairings (I like Kairi from KH and I like Shiida with Marth there's only rare exceptions to this really a couple unknown book series but i think thats down to it being early work from the authors and them not being the best at developing the relationships just yet) As for Chrom x Olivia I don't mind it but I personally prefer Aether over Rightful King and out of Chrom's daughter options Cynthia's just better at it. BigKlingy I feel like canon pairings are only annoying in games where you pairings actually matter. Fire Emblem being one of them. in other situations, it literally doesn't matter outside of shipping. if I recall, the original fire emblem didn't have supports, so Caeda being a Canon love interest has no effect on gameplay. this game on the other hand... I can see why people don't like it, because giving you a choice and then making one particular choice seem "canon" kind of takes away from the other choices. I feel if they wanted SumiaXChrom to be canon, they shouldn't have given Chrom the option to marry other people and then made Sumia the blatantly correct choice anyway. if they're going to go so far to hint their relationship, why didn't they make it mandatory? if you're going to have multiple options, there shouldn't be one that's canon because then it makes the other options noncanon. there shouldn't be a "correct" choice, because at that point, it might as well be the ONLY choice. not to mention the whole Sumia can possibly lose out on having her child at all thing. kind of a dick move. not that I even remember who her other options are. that said, I usually pair with Sumia anyway, if not just for pega-pony princess and being Lucinas sister. but I can get why people might not like it when there's a Canon option. if Chrom had no other option and married Sumia no matter what, it'd be better, because Chrom is married automatically anyway, so he might as well Marry her automatically too, rather than making it an option and then going "pick me! pick me!"
Sumia has bad strength? she must be getting really lucky in my file then. or shes a little overleveled. which I don't think she is. I had her go through Pegasus Knight (lvl20) - Dark Flier (lvl20)- War Monk(currently lvl6). Strength is nearly as high as her speed. 35 strength, 40 speed. defense isn't that great, but she's more able than Maribelle, though she can practically oneshot everything with her high magi stat atm. I don't think I overleveled, but maybe I did and didn't realize.
redtailedhawkdude At what point in the game are you? 20 > 20 > 6 is pretty high. Sumia's strength isn't that bad, it's only low relatively seeing as there's a lot of characters with 60-70% Strength growths in this game. 45% on its own isn't bad, it's actually pretty good compared to Pegasus Knights in earlier games.
You know despite the jokes about fangirls attacking Sumia, I've seen more Sumia fans attacking fan girls than the other way around. Most of the people I've come across who have Chrom as their own husbando, just pair up Sumia with Freddy and call it a day.
Not even viewing the C support with Chrom won't stop her marrying him. I had like 3 fight with them next to each other. I was thinking oh ok they unlocked it but if I don't view it they wont get married after cut off point. Clear ch 11 I see her auto marriage scene with Chrom. I had to restart Ch 11 again with Sumia married off to someone else.
@@BigKlingy you actually don't. I didn't have anyone married before Chrom and yet still got him to marry who I wanted him to. The way how you get him to marry others is simple don't have him near Sumia when he's attacking because you actually gain suppor pointst by having characters be within 2 spaces of each other when attacking.
It's the same ambiguous wording that makes me wonder if Lancers in FE14 can swap places with any unit (which has aplications like pulling enemies out of chokepoints or off defensive terrain) or just allies.
That's why its a bad skill you'll be near enemy though the entire game. In his Future Past 1 episode you see NPC Cynthia healing there. She been using 3 use of her Elixirs at little damage she takes. He confuse it with Relief.

Not... really? I don't see much hinting towards Chrom/Olivia in other games. Also, Laslow in Fates interacts with Lucina in a way that really doesn't make sense if they're siblings. (Then again, nothing is specifically canon from "the Awakening" the trio are from besides them not being paired and... of all things, the Scramble DLC maps)
@@BigKlingy so… Fates: Laslow runs from a roach screaming “Not again!!” The only other time we see inigo run from a roach is in Lucina’s sibling support. He is also the only sibling who is canonically afraid of bugs. Laslow mentions brands specifically in the eye when talking to Xander. His best friends is on the arm and the invincible hero Chrom’s is on his shoulder but he specifically asks about the eye, where Inigos is. When given the Fire Emblem, Laslow says “you’d give that to me? There’s no way I could perform the awakening…” awakening confirms the rite is NOT blood based so inigo saying this confirms he is still comparing himself to Chrom. Inigos biggest character trait is self doubt and his constant comparing himself to his father and Lucina; and in fates he compares himself to Chrom. Even geeks out about meeting him despite us knowing inigo was only so excited to see his mom and dad, not Chrom specifically. He is uncomfortable when he noticed the girl he called beautiful was Lucina, and she laughs it off and says they can have a tea date: something he does with his mom and daughter. Date wasn’t always exclusively romantic. Warriors puts Chrom and Olivia beside each other on the banner “Many forms of love” and Olivia’s history map (which were advertised to contain canon content) references Chrom and Olivia’s supports a few times. Heroes always has Inigo alts (BUT not Laslow who’s brand is erased) close the same eye Inigos brand would be in in their default art. In heroes, Inigo makes a direct reference saying lines pulled directly from Lucina’s sibling support. Pegasus Knight Olivia is Chrom’s only bride to be used to represent awakening; and she represents the same chapter we got Legendsry Lucina

My Sumia would disagree about being a good dark flier. She doubles with at least twenty damage most of the time. With an elfire. El not Arch. Cynthia still needs a bit of a boost with her magic. Not to mention galeforce doubles that damage.
Redni The Espeon I sort-of meant "relatively good" Dark Flier, in comparison to Cordelia. But still, both the starting Pegasus Knights are pretty meh as magical Dark Fliers. The better ones are those that start as magic users, or a certain Spotpass pre-promote.

I adore sumia. In fact, I married her in my first male avatar playthrough. The one thing that annoys me with her.is the limited supports. I actually was unable to get her child my first playthrough cause I was trying to pair her with Stahl before finally realizing nothing was happening. It gives a lot less time with her character, while Chroms are also limited the amount of story scenes he has throughout the game negates that. Not a big deal as I usually pair her and Chrom but it’s still pretty disappointing. Better than spotpass characters at least…
Every other Fire Emblem character has more haters than Sumia. I would say she's one of the least hated characters in the franchise. Even Dimitri/Edelgard/Rhea/Seiros/Byleth get more hate than she did. Honestly, the only characters that are hated less than Sumia are Shamir, Petra, and Lysithea. That's about it.
Back when this game was new, it was mild when it was only released in Japan, but as soon as the game released in English hatred on Sumia became incredibly intense as the popularity of the Chrom/Robin pairing skyrocketed (but not just for that reason, there were a lot of people who hated Sumia for being "weak", her clumsiness, and her low self esteem. I even saw some posts going weirdly irl and seemingly implying having low self-esteem makes you a bad person). Dimitri/Edelgard/Rhea/Seiros are all hated for in-story reasons so I don't think they count to the extent Sumia does. Any reasons to dislike them are intentional on the part of the writers, while Sumia wasn't supposed to be hated.
@@BigKlingy Fair enough, I'm still surprised that Marianne and Bernadette ranked high in the previous CYLs. I feel Sumia is more unpopular. Someone like Eirika has haters, but she's 100 times more popular than Sumia. That's why it seemed that Sumia had more haters than she actually did. I still like Sumia, but I may end up going with Kjelle in my post game file. I'm only doing one post game file since it takes too much grinding to use the second generation characters.
I wanted to discuss Chrom's pairings specifically since he's the only one who has to be paired and Lucina is the only forced 2nd gen character, so Chrom's pairing will always be relevant. Plus, it's easier since Chrom only has 5 potential wives (+ lol village maiden) while... Robin pairings are nearly impossible to discuss since there's SO many variables to Morgan. (Can be mothered by any female, Robin's Asset/Flaw combo)
Sumia is one of the few people who gets both. Well, one of the few who gets both who can actually make good use of them due to her defensive class and skill options. Lissa and Maribelle are a bit too frail to really be able to use the healing. Sumia can stack the two with Pavise and be a surprisingly decent tank.
+BigKlingy One time I had Severa inherit Relief from Cordelia and Renewal from Libra and ended up reclassing her to a Dark Knight. Once she got Life Taker, she basically was the ultimate tank of my army and went around mercilessly soloing risen with tree branches and basic fire tomes with her capped strength and magic. Even when the AI was dumb enough to target her, she basically never took any damage. Yeah... Let's just say I deleted that file because it was so ridiculously easy and I got bored.

I feel if they wanted SumiaXChrom to be canon, they shouldn't have given Chrom the option to marry other people and then made Sumia the blatantly correct choice anyway. if they're going to go so far to hint their relationship, why didn't they make it mandatory? if you're going to have multiple options, there shouldn't be one that's canon because then it makes the other options noncanon. there shouldn't be a "correct" choice, because at that point, it might as well be the ONLY choice. not to mention the whole Sumia can possibly lose out on having her child at all thing. kind of a dick move. not that I even remember who her other options are.
that said, I usually pair with Sumia anyway, if not just for pega-pony princess and being Lucinas sister. but I can get why people might not like it when there's a Canon option. if Chrom had no other option and married Sumia no matter what, it'd be better, because Chrom is married automatically anyway, so he might as well Marry her automatically too, rather than making it an option and then going "pick me! pick me!"

Sumia has bad strength? she must be getting really lucky in my file then. or shes a little overleveled. which I don't think she is. I had her go through Pegasus Knight (lvl20) - Dark Flier (lvl20)- War Monk(currently lvl6). Strength is nearly as high as her speed. 35 strength, 40 speed. defense isn't that great, but she's more able than Maribelle, though she can practically oneshot everything with her high magi stat atm.
I don't think I overleveled, but maybe I did and didn't realize.

Sumia's strength isn't that bad, it's only low relatively seeing as there's a lot of characters with 60-70% Strength growths in this game. 45% on its own isn't bad, it's actually pretty good compared to Pegasus Knights in earlier games.

IMO, that level is way too high for that point in thge game. I was around there on my first runthrough and everything became stupidly easy.
BigKlingy i mostly just keep her in back for healing and if someone NEEDS to get taken out. like if they don't get taken down someone's dead.
You know despite the jokes about fangirls attacking Sumia, I've seen more Sumia fans attacking fan girls than the other way around. Most of the people I've come across who have Chrom as their own husbando, just pair up Sumia with Freddy and call it a day.
Not even viewing the C support with Chrom won't stop her marrying him. I had like 3 fight with them next to each other. I was thinking oh ok they unlocked it but if I don't view it they wont get married after cut off point. Clear ch 11 I see her auto marriage scene with Chrom. I had to restart Ch 11 again with Sumia married off to someone else.
Yeah you basically have to marry all Chrom's wives off to other people if you want to guarantee the pairing you want.
@@BigKlingy you actually don't. I didn't have anyone married before Chrom and yet still got him to marry who I wanted him to. The way how you get him to marry others is simple don't have him near Sumia when he's attacking because you actually gain suppor pointst by having characters be within 2 spaces of each other when attacking.

BigKlingy take a look at the skill description, it says "Restores 20% hp per turn if there are no UNITS within 3 spaces" that's how they catch you
It's the same ambiguous wording that makes me wonder if Lancers in FE14 can swap places with any unit (which has aplications like pulling enemies out of chokepoints or off defensive terrain) or just allies.
That's why its a bad skill you'll be near enemy though the entire game. In his Future Past 1 episode you see NPC Cynthia healing there. She been using 3 use of her Elixirs at little damage she takes. He confuse it with Relief.
After recruiting both of her daughters, I kinda demoted her to Rally-Bot

Not... really? I don't see much hinting towards Chrom/Olivia in other games. Also, Laslow in Fates interacts with Lucina in a way that really doesn't make sense if they're siblings. (Then again, nothing is specifically canon from "the Awakening" the trio are from besides them not being paired and... of all things, the Scramble DLC maps)

Fates: Laslow runs from a roach screaming “Not again!!” The only other time we see inigo run from a roach is in Lucina’s sibling support. He is also the only sibling who is canonically afraid of bugs.
Laslow mentions brands specifically in the eye when talking to Xander. His best friends is on the arm and the invincible hero Chrom’s is on his shoulder but he specifically asks about the eye, where Inigos is.
When given the Fire Emblem, Laslow says “you’d give that to me? There’s no way I could perform the awakening…” awakening confirms the rite is NOT blood based so inigo saying this confirms he is still comparing himself to Chrom. Inigos biggest character trait is self doubt and his constant comparing himself to his father and Lucina; and in fates he compares himself to Chrom. Even geeks out about meeting him despite us knowing inigo was only so excited to see his mom and dad, not Chrom specifically.
He is uncomfortable when he noticed the girl he called beautiful was Lucina, and she laughs it off and says they can have a tea date: something he does with his mom and daughter. Date wasn’t always exclusively romantic.
Warriors puts Chrom and Olivia beside each other on the banner “Many forms of love” and Olivia’s history map (which were advertised to contain canon content) references Chrom and Olivia’s supports a few times.
Heroes always has Inigo alts (BUT not Laslow who’s brand is erased) close the same eye Inigos brand would be in in their default art.
In heroes, Inigo makes a direct reference saying lines pulled directly from Lucina’s sibling support.
Pegasus Knight Olivia is Chrom’s only bride to be used to represent awakening; and she represents the same chapter we got Legendsry Lucina

My Sumia would disagree about being a good dark flier. She doubles with at least twenty damage most of the time. With an elfire. El not Arch. Cynthia still needs a bit of a boost with her magic. Not to mention galeforce doubles that damage.
Redni The Espeon I sort-of meant "relatively good" Dark Flier, in comparison to Cordelia. But still, both the starting Pegasus Knights are pretty meh as magical Dark Fliers. The better ones are those that start as magic users, or a certain Spotpass pre-promote.

Five counter warriors. Boy am I glad for Donnel and Nah. Even morgan died god damn it. I'm not happy with how this is turning out.

A good way to grind without DLC is Sothe's Spotpass team, it's all thief classes so they give a lot of exp. Bad for Axe users though.
I adore sumia. In fact, I married her in my first male avatar playthrough. The one thing that annoys me with her.is the limited supports. I actually was unable to get her child my first playthrough cause I was trying to pair her with Stahl before finally realizing nothing was happening. It gives a lot less time with her character, while Chroms are also limited the amount of story scenes he has throughout the game negates that. Not a big deal as I usually pair her and Chrom but it’s still pretty disappointing. Better than spotpass characters at least…
Every other Fire Emblem character has more haters than Sumia. I would say she's one of the least hated characters in the franchise. Even Dimitri/Edelgard/Rhea/Seiros/Byleth get more hate than she did.
Honestly, the only characters that are hated less than Sumia are Shamir, Petra, and Lysithea. That's about it.
Back when this game was new, it was mild when it was only released in Japan, but as soon as the game released in English hatred on Sumia became incredibly intense as the popularity of the Chrom/Robin pairing skyrocketed (but not just for that reason, there were a lot of people who hated Sumia for being "weak", her clumsiness, and her low self esteem. I even saw some posts going weirdly irl and seemingly implying having low self-esteem makes you a bad person).
Dimitri/Edelgard/Rhea/Seiros are all hated for in-story reasons so I don't think they count to the extent Sumia does. Any reasons to dislike them are intentional on the part of the writers, while Sumia wasn't supposed to be hated.

Fair enough, I'm still surprised that Marianne and Bernadette ranked high in the previous CYLs. I feel Sumia is more unpopular. Someone like Eirika has haters, but she's 100 times more popular than Sumia. That's why it seemed that Sumia had more haters than she actually did.
I still like Sumia, but I may end up going with Kjelle in my post game file. I'm only doing one post game file since it takes too much grinding to use the second generation characters.

I wanted to discuss Chrom's pairings specifically since he's the only one who has to be paired and Lucina is the only forced 2nd gen character, so Chrom's pairing will always be relevant. Plus, it's easier since Chrom only has 5 potential wives (+ lol village maiden) while... Robin pairings are nearly impossible to discuss since there's SO many variables to Morgan. (Can be mothered by any female, Robin's Asset/Flaw combo)
Relief actually heals less than Renewal.
Sumia is one of the few people who gets both. Well, one of the few who gets both who can actually make good use of them due to her defensive class and skill options. Lissa and Maribelle are a bit too frail to really be able to use the healing. Sumia can stack the two with Pavise and be a surprisingly decent tank.

+BigKlingy One time I had Severa inherit Relief from Cordelia and Renewal from Libra and ended up reclassing her to a Dark Knight. Once she got Life Taker, she basically was the ultimate tank of my army and went around mercilessly soloing risen with tree branches and basic fire tomes with her capped strength and magic. Even when the AI was dumb enough to target her, she basically never took any damage. Yeah... Let's just say I deleted that file because it was so ridiculously easy and I got bored.
