Even though I enjoy watching restored kenworth and peterbilts is nice to see something else for a change

First saw this truck at The Springfield, Ill ATHS national show , looked it over pretty close, cuz I'm a GMC guy from the '50s. Got a half dozen good pictures but I never spotted any Freightliner connection . Still don't understand how? But Ashton always shows up with unusual GMC's . Nice to see something besides Peterbilts !

The old style is just more "romantic" in my view, trucks before 90 are design wise "Rich".

I remember I finally got a real trucking Job I was so excited. I lied told I had three yrs which that's what some was asking back in early 90"s. I got my lic 91 hired by this company in late 92. My road test was to a pick up. I was nervous but handled ok the safety guy didn't say a word on the wAy their. He jumps out says put it in that door. I prayed under my breath..... uhm hi God sorry to bother you ur maybe on lunch or plucking angels wings but I need this job plz help me get this in the hole in one shot.
Guys no lie I did it one shot and perfectly square with dock .
I walk in not knowing that part yet and the instructor opens door looks down and says..... Jobs yours. Oh God thk you ur the Best. God said who are you.... huh it's me I prayed you'd help me. Oh I'm sorry prayers got mixed up you was to fail. Wow God sure knows how to yang the chain out of you.😛😁😁😁 Little fun humor.
Anyways they gave me a general to drive single cab bunk. They gave the keys and said ..... Make sure you got 40 acres on pick ups n deliveries. Well I didn't get it so I just chuckled and said yah I know.
I go to pick up and size up my door and swing it like you'd normally do. Put 4 ways on and proceeded with my One year experience to back up. I parked chassis at a rail yard my first month of LIC so I was kool. I'm backing up and I look in my mirror I'm like..... How the hell did my trailer get over their. I pulled up again did the back up and thought what the hell!! I finally got it in the hole. I go back to yard and the guy says tight spot at that pick up. I said it was not bad. He laughed and said the shipper is a buddy of mine and called me asking did I mention to you about 40 acres. He goes..... I was pissing myself laughing. He goes the generals radius is shit for turns and backing up that's why I said 40 acres. Then he said give me 40 acres and I can park a general anywhere.
It was funny but of course now I knew so I just of course had to pay more attention to turns and back ups and position properly. Over all I loved the truck in two months they put me in a 60" bunk the owner because I showed up on a weekend and polished the rims and tanks. I was at a pick up and s driver walks up to me and says you Joe I said yah.... Come out ur ride is here. I walk out it's a 60" bunk General and the driver said Morley gave you a jacket it's in the passenger seat and said thks for polishing his truck.
Now look at us today all these years later and the respect is gone n trucking. Sure miss the old days of my career when I started. CB was constant flow of great guys. No highbeams in ur mirrors. Trucks stops loaded with great talks. So many great things back then went on.
Sure miss those days. Still trucking with my own Columbia. Sweet truck. I know not much but it's mine done up sweet and it just feels good driving it. Awesome General friend real beauty brought back a memory. God bless be safe.
