You're mistaken, by definition: "a member of a group of religious men who do not marry and usually live together in a monastery" -- dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/monk All you have to type is: Define monk Into google and you can see this definition repeated.
+Emma Donaldson monks usually get various requisites like clothing, toiletries etc, some may be given books or various little gift/reminders of their ordination. At least this pretty muchs sums up what I got on my ordination and what I've seen of others.
sadu bhanthe anumodami.I have to say something to bhanthe ajahn bhrahmawanso, bhanthe, females are considered as dangers for the monk hood (palibhodha), even their clothes and jewelries, female body is not to touch even if it is a female statue according to the "vinaya"as a Buddhist I respect nuns and bhikkhunies like I respect bhikkhus , but I think bhikkhunies must not sit with bhikkhus . I think that is good to sit different places as bhikkunies and bhikkhus.
You are misunderstanded what i said was that monks and bhikkhunis must not to be physically contact even when passing nearby.. females are a obstacle to the bhikkus and males are considered as a obstacle for bhikkhunis. As we are buddhist we respect every living organism. We spread loving kindness for every one. But some religions considered animals are made up for human consumption... but we always think "sabbhe saththa sukhappaththa" So we treat women not like others. We respect them. Lord buddha is the only teacher or the religious leader that said, being a women is not a obstacle to become liberated.. But for bhikkhus and bhikkhunis physical contact with each other is prohibited because they are practicing a holy lifestyle. Even if a wooden opposite sex statue is touched in a lust ful mind it may dammage a big winaya rule. They are called " sangadisesa" or " garuka aapaththi".. because of that reson i said that it will be better bhikkhunis and bhikkhus sit seperatly to each other Namo buddhaya
