    I'm a recent fan of Vivian's. I've been shooting since I was a boy, 50 years ago, and no where near her ability. But I learn best by seeing others' work and her's is some of the best.

    I liked the pace and content of this.
    The self-portraits give us a sense of what her presence was like as she walked the streets.
    People had a different (or rather 'indifferent') awareness and relationship to cameras then we do today. We've evolved (for better or for worse) into self-consciousness, as opposed as being engaged in life as they were then.

    Hi ! I happen to have the very same camera bought in 53 and still have it in a-1 shape...I hopde you mond mind what I want to stress here. Problbly many “amateurs” who bought these cameras carefully used the eveready case and shot thei photos asyou show...at waist level. Well this can be ok and even great in some instances but far from the best ! Next you and many others areall omitting to mention the the viewing/magnifier lens situateed right under the small opening at the back of the viewfinder when it’s open. (Same lens as the one on top) Well it seems to me that many people must think it’s there like a car having a spare tiree in the trunk !!! that unique feature from Rolleiflex deserves a lot of attention AND praise. most action photographers shot their photos ( of movie stars, public figures et...) making use of the “open direct viewfinder” and guess what...they used the rear magnifier lens (which is shaded) to ACCURATELY FOCUS ON THEIR SUBJECT in less that 2 seconds. viewing-focusing and back to viewing in 3 seconds !!! Trust me, I used my Rollei for weddings, sports etc until I then switched to the 6006 mostly because of the ease to reload, interchangeable lenses and more. But never lost my love for the TLR model. I stopped shooting 2 years ago at 92 ! Now many will say..”yes bu the open finder’ is like going back to the dark ages..how can it give accurate framing ? Well, it does not...but for these types of shot your biggest concern is getting your subject “somewhere” in the middle of your negative. You will correct the framing in printing. Also this open frame finder shows less than you will get (for safety).
    You will have to practice..yes...but you’l learn quickly.
    Please don’t call your “close-up lenses” filters....they are not. They are “close-up LENSES” the top one is made to correct for parallax. Parallax correction protects you from cutting heads etc but never forget that, at “close range” what you see is still not what you get ( that is not 100% ) Just like your left eye does not see “exactly” what the othe one does. (check it out !) This is not important most of time, but you should learn to look for that as it can be very important under certain circumstances (in relation to what’s in your background and the distance to it etc..)
    I hope this can help you enjoy your Rolleiflex at its best.

    "Reflex" refers to the mirror housing and the way that the image is viewed. It doesn't have anything to do with the film advance.

    I don't think the word "reflex" has anything to do with the winding method. It means it uses a mirror to throw the image onto the focussing screen.

  • @robwhite461
    @robwhite461 Год назад +1

    Getting tired of all these misleading titles, it’s not Vivian’s camera at all. Why not just be truthful and say Rolliflex the camera Vivian Maier used.

    Your statements on 0:56 are incorrect and should be redacted and corrected. The word ''reflex'' refers to the mirror used behind the viewing lens that redirects the image-forming light onto a focusing screen. Do you research and do not talk about subjects you have no good understanding about.

    Its not Roll"ee"flex, its Roll"ei" flex!!! Your pronunciation is very annoying. And the negative is not "about" 6cm by 6cm, it is precisely 6cm by 6cm.

      @reecewynne2863 4 года назад +3

      Well this is awkward, it’s not called medium format solely because of 6x6 lmao, it’s called medium format because it’s bigger than 35mm and smaller than large format hence the name “medium” otherwise what would 6x7 be called? Medium large? Secondly it is “about” 6x6. The 6x6 cm was a conversion from inch to cm. Most of these cameras actually took pictures that were 5.6x6 cm, not precisely 6x6. Maybe educate yourself before blasting someone? Just a suggestion
