What a crazy journey. I finished the show a few months ago now but it still feels like the hunter exam is only just beginning. Logistics: - The Q&A will be posted tomorrow. - I WILL read the new chapters, but probably can't start until January and it makes the most sense as a Patreon exclusive. The journey wasn't perfect and I could probably talk about this show for years without ever reaching the bottom, but that is part of the beauty of it and the point I think. The hunt never ends and there's always a dream beyond the dream. As such, it doesn't end with this show but transcends it and is something I will carry with me and strive for the rest of my life. Thank you to everyone for following this year+ journey, for all the support, insight, and humor. It's been amazing and I feel very lucky to have had this experience.
Imagine a faction as important as the Zodiacs, except there's over 20 of those factions and we get a new faction with nearly every batch of chapters. Thats the current manga arc.
If you do read the new chapters please read the Volume releases. They have art redone by Togashi since he was under a lot of stress when writing the official chapters.
Gon's perception of his relationship with his Ging helped me reconnect with my dad a few years before he passed away and I'm so thankful for it. He couldn't be a father but he could still be a friend.
THIS. You can have not a good parent-child relationship with your parent but still have a good relationship with them! I am happy you got to reconnect with your dad. May he rest in peace
The ending of this arc in the manga is a little more bittersweet if I remember, with Gon stating that "I think I need to take some time to figure out what I want to do." and the implication that maybe, he's realizing how much of his identity he put into finding this one person, and while he doesn't regret it, he's at a point in life where he needs to do some soul searching to find out who he is outside of that one goal.
The journey being more important than the destination is a very popular trope, but hunter x hunter is probably the best show to really truly deliver that message, where others seem to just tack it on in the end.
@@unnaturallynatural8885 right it's one of the richest explorations of it, and even more than that I think it's additive. Because it's not just "the journey," it's the fact that you're always looking upwards at one game higher, one game higher, approaching something unreachable, but it's that process that leads to potential actualization, and that process is so tangible and important that it is destination LIKE
Yea because the whole story is basically a journey where the "detours" are more important and interesting than the ultimate destination, finding Ging. Compared to everything else actually finding Ging was probably the most underwhelming part of Gon's journey, he sort of just unexpectedly runs into him when he goes to see Leorio
I always just assumed that scene with Gotoh at the end was them getting one of those creatures to impersonate Gotoh so Killua wouldn’t find out about his death.
Wow I can’t believe it. I still remember the day you posted your reaction to episode one and I was so excited to see that you were watching my favorite show. It truly is, to me, one of the greatest shows out there and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did when I first watched it.
seeing tree scene remind me of carl jung's quote "No tree, it is said, can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell", I see alluka/nanika is anima (repressed feminine) and shadow part of killua too
I don't know if any of your patrons said anything about the ending but if they didnt: - Ending Explained After Gon and Killua escorted Knuckle and Shoot to NGL after they lost their respective duels (back in episode 92), Spinner (the girl in Kite’s group) told them the story of how they bought a mountain to save a species of swans and Kite helped them financially. She wants to be a hunter to repay Kite. "Our most vivid and lasting memory is the sight of a thousands swans taking flight with the sun rising behind them" "ONCE THE MISSION IS OVER I will take you there" "It's priceless" As you said in 22:17 This is the scene our protagonists are watching at the end. It signifies the end of our protagonists journey. For Gon finding his father. For Killua finding a purpose in life, for Leorio to be able to study to become a doctor. Notice how Kurapika didnt get to watch that scene as his mission is still ongoing. Togashi’s way of closing that part of the story.
"I want something that I can't see in front of me" Since I was a teenager, this simple sentence has shaped my life till today. It is the reason why I became a scientist and a wanderlust. Ging is not a complex character: he is an allegory of adventure, without any compromise on this concept, in the middle of complex characters.
There's a huge difference between what Ging said, wanting what's not in front of him right now, and what you said, dreams. Chasing ideals and wishful thinking is what most people do. It's limited to your own imagination and past experiences. It's bland. What he's talking about is the OPENness to the unforeseen. It's vibrant in the aliveness of anew.
The Kiriko who showed up at Gotoh's grave is one of those who Killia met when he did the Hunter Exam. Gotoh actually died and the Kiriko will take his place by shapeshifting into him so Killua won't find out (and won't be sad as a consequence)
And with that, the journey ends. Now just gotta hope the manga will finish someday lol 24:00 Also Gotoh actually died. That magical beast is disguised as him so Killua never finds out about it.

The end of a journey! I remember when you posted the first episode of this series. I was 100% sure you’d enjoy the show. Good to see I was right. I think your decision to hold off on the manga until next year is a good one. The anime’s ending is worth sitting on for a while, imo. The manga takes the story in such a completely new direction that just rushing forward can give a lot of new readers whiplash. And with Togashi currently working on new chapters, the longer you wait the more you’ll get to read at once. A truly fantastic series. I hope you had fun!
I'm really considering paying your Patreon to see your reaction to the manga 😊 Your anime reactions and analysis were the most interesting and enjoyable i've seen on RUclips.
I struggle to come up with a comment that can accurately describe how I feel about this anime, and the manga it's based on. I guess I'll boil it down to this: I have immense respect for artists because of stories like this, to put yourself out there in the world and inspire other people like this takes a lot, and I hope one day I can do the same in my own way someday.
I really enjoy your reaction and discussion throughout this amazing and unique story. And you reach quite the same conclusion to me that we think Ging, in some way, is the best father to Gon. They are really unique dad-and-son relationship I have ever seen. It's not a standard type of relationship, and people usually get upset about it, but even Gon himself, interpret his situation differently and so interesting. By the way, thanks for your discussion for all these time. Hope we get to enjoy more arc in the future.

I don't know if it's possible to call any series "perfect", but HxH comes pretty close. It's impressive that they managed to give it a really good ending, especially when you consider that the original manga still is ongoing.
Don't be sad because it's over... be sad because Kurapika had like ten seconds of screentime for the second half of the show. Thanks for your reactions, Goodwin! I think you started this journey when I have just finished mine, so it was great to come along. I caught up to the manga like a month ago, just in time for the new chapters, and I can guarantee you will have a great time, I think your commentary will be interesting if you decide to react to it.
Yeah, seeing his dad in leaving his son to be who knows how much time in that cybercafe with that drink made me lose all potential respect towards him 😆 Anyway, glad you finished the anime forever, hope you'll also react to the remake :)
Just saying, the story is at its best and most ambitious in the manga, I think many people would watch your reactions to the manga. Maybe a patreon thing?
i like that gons entire journey and life and all the little detours he had on his way is what ging finds so beautiful, and probably why he strung him along in so many directions. Then adding a layer to that, ging must have had a nice little detour on his own journey that resulted in gon himself. like a beautiful cycle of detours that leave another kid without a father to then go on his own journey with his own detours and probably almost die along the way. also youre going to love the manga. is there any way you will feature any of that content on here? maybe a recap after a certain amount of chapters or at least one big one once you catch up? i would love to hear your thoughts about it. ive loved this series
Just to clarify, you're right in that there are metaphors for the Hunter's (specifically, Ging and Gon's) journey in Ging's talk with Gon, but Ging is also referencing point-for-point his literal efforts to reach The Dark Continent. The world we see in HxH is just a tiny part of the world map. When they zoom out in that one shot (I'm sure you got a closer look at it while editing), it shows a comparison of the known world vs. The Dark Continent. Obviously I won't spoil anything, but since you already heard this, Kurapika is indeed the "protagonist" for that arc (I put it in quotes, because there really aren't any "main characters" in HxH like in your average anime/story). It definitely follows other known characters (and new ones) too, in the same way it follows Kurapika. I'd say it's easily the most ambitious arc for Togashi, so I really hope he can finish it out with his health, so we can eventually see it animated. What we got already in the manga would be crazy to see on screen.
i believe there is knowledge with deep spiritual meaning (in the sense of percepction of the world and yourself), being it big piece or small piece. and i also believe that, for me, in some kinds of knowledge pieces (being speeches, books, or media) i can feel the meaning so palpable but distant in absorption, like i heard the ideas but it didn't click in my mind, yet! maybe is my bad media comprehension skills (real lol). maybe it's the timing of the life events. maybe is the maturity of one's soul. maybe there needs to be a basic learning to be made, but in all cases, there needs to be a return. once again, i thank you for opening up your mind and sharing your thoughts, i didn't understand all the ideas, but i believe there is value on those sometime i will give this reaction series a rewatch, sure there is more to learn!! stay strong! good energies for you and your surroundings!!!
