  • Derrick Jensen. author of A Language Older Than Words, The Culture of Make Believe, and the two volume set that introduced me to his work, Endgame, joins me for an intense and open conversation.
We talk about the natural world, our role as human beings within it, and the violence that occurs when we become disconnected from that sense of place. We end with how we all have a role in making a difference and caring for Earth; this place that is our home.

"the important thing is we do something. the important thing is that people actually do some work
the big distinction is not between those who believe you need to fight back militantly and those who dont
the big distinction is not between the revolutionaries or reformists, the big distinction is those who do something
and those who do nothing at all."

Yeah. Pointing is important for us individuals - it's a cyclical cosmos and may therefore indicate future existence. Thanks.

36:00 Derrick says one has to be separated from other species to feel alone, but you can also feel to be in unity with all species on earth and then ask the quest are we (all living things on earth) alone or is there other live out there?

We are superior to the animals and the trees but we should still protect them because - like he said, their lives are as important to them as our lives are to us.

Lol, so to make a change everyone should go and build their career on activism? I mean only reason he is so inspired by this is because Derrick is smart person and he figured out a way to sell his books and grift off environmentalist. There is nothing bad in it but does he know who is paying for activism?

He never says everyone should be an activist. He says everyone has different skills, and he would like for everyone to care and do something. I'm pretty sure if someone is "smart" in this society, they can figure out a way to make more money than writing books (none of which have made the NYT bestseller unfortunately) if that is their goal as you suggest. Not sure what you're getting at.

17:03 ok he doesn't understand how his lifestyle is even possible in world of pain, death and constant starvation. All his ideas are based on false premises/lie/narcissism.

"he doesn't understand how his lifestyle is even possible in world of pain, death and constant starvation." I'm sorry but what are you actually trying to say here? I read it three times and don't understand. Clearly his first world lifestyle is dependent on this system of pain, death and constant starvation. Or are you saying pre-colonial, pre-agrarian eras were the "world of pain, death and starvation."?
