  • In this video, I demonstrate how to run an ANCOVA in SPSS, investigate its assumptions, and interpret the output. The assumptions covered are:
    1. Normality of the DV and covariate(s)
    2. The IV does not have a significant effect on the covariate(s).
    3. DV and covariates are linearly related
    4. Homogeneity of regression: the slopes for the DV and covariate are homogenous
    5. Homogeneity of variances

Very helpful. Please, I want you to help me on how to introduce set the gender and treatment groups on ancova

Gender and treatment groups are supposedly the IVs; they cannot be uses as covariates, as they are categorical.

Very informative. Thankyou. Total SPSS beginner here.
Is the interpretation the same when there are 2 or more covariates? I'm doing an analysis of gender and BMI where I want to control for 4 covariates (age and socioeconomic factors). But I'm having some difficulty interpreting the results. 🙈 Do you have a video I can watch?
And what does the corrected model mean? 🙂

The interpretation will be the same, so will the steps to include the 4 covariates. Good luck!

If some covariates are not related to DV do you insert them in the model?Thk u

You could explore inserting them, but you will have a difficult time justifying it.

Great video! I was wondered how you would proceed if the interaction term was positive? I.e. gender*strategy?

Please interpret the p value in the same way that you would in other cases, and report that you have found a positive interaction between X and Y.

Hi, I wonder why I could not click the POST-HOC button when I conducted ANCOVA? Thank you in advance.

Possibly, your IV only has two levels (e.g., gender).
