I'm just so confused at how Shrek on Xbox ended up the way it did. Why's Todd McFarland and Dice making a Shrek game with such advanced shading?

RebelTaxi why wouldn’t they, you’ve gotta give everything your all when it comes to Shrek.
As explained in the video, it was supposed to drive consumers to pick up the Xbox as sort of a tech demo of sorts. Matching a huge, recognizable character/brand with a tech demo sounds like a dream come true to industry heads.
Remember Shrek was one of the first CG films to be on par or better than pixar graphically.of course they would want the games to be just as impressive
Emmanuel Reyes But Shrek wasn't a recognizable brand when the game came out. It was a new ip and it was a movie. Why would they choose a random upcoming animated movie to impress investors and show off tech demos?

All jokes aside, it's so interesting to me that, at least based on the ones I've played and reviewed, Shrek is home to some of the worst _and_ best licensed games in recent memory.

As I remember it, Shrek 2 was a pretty decent game to play with my siblings. Decent controls, memorable sound design, followed the spirit of the movie well. Glad to hear it did well financially too.
Shrek Super Slam was the shit back then. Nobody could beat me, I mained Black Knight and Anthrax.

I had so much fun playing Shrek 2 on PS2 when I was a kid, it's still probably one of my favorite games ever
Shrek video games were surprisingly good, loved Shrek 2 and Super Slam as a kid
Shrek 2 is actually very nostalgic for me. It was legitimately one of my favorite games as a kid.
_Shrek has layers on top of layers and I think that's why so many love him as an iconic character. He has layers of personality and I think that reinvigorates the genre of comedy movies as you don't see characters as thicc and layered as you did back then. I can really see why they decided to make all these Shrek games as the layers probably multiply into a good game as Shrek games are often with layers or without layers; their's no real in-between with the layers. I personally find Shrek without layers to be rather dull and gainst the inspiration that really made Shrek-Shrek, well, Shrek. I believe this channel without the layers Shrek provides would implode on itself as the Shrek mythos relies on layers or else it kind've crumbles on greeting marketing and deceptive campaigns.._

I watched the first Shrek movie a couple days ago and I unironically liked it. The memes have blinded me from its true quality.
The Goldn Guy The movie actually recieved a lot of praise from the critics and a lot of awards back in the day, it was even considered one of the best films of 2001... the problem came from it's unnecesary sequels.

I actually enjoyed the Xbox Shrek quite a bit. It was fun enough to complete the race mode. It was hectic to control, but once you master it, its incredibly satisfying to platform

When half of your childhood was spent playing Shrek games on Friday and Saturday nights...I still have Shrek Superslam, Shrek Smash 'n' Crash Racing and Shrek the Third for PS2. Although they are Shrek games, I mean common, and aside all the memes, I had an absolute blast playing them, especially Superslam.

The Shrek 2 game was honestly a really cool game and while the AI had some dumb moments, I thought it was really cool to switch between four characters to complete challenges and having slots rotate to keep things fresh. I'd love for a new game to do that with modern polish, be it a new IP or one that already exists by a company that can do it right.
Also I absolutely LOVED Shrek Super Slam because it was such an awesome game to me back in the day because I had hours of fun playing the game on the Xbox and the GameCube as a kid both dudes and dudettes!

Shrek 2: Team Action on consoles was really good for its time. Same goes for SuperSlam, which is also one of the first games I have beaten without a memory card.

Yeah, TDK made most of the Shrek games back then until 2003, Activision did the game for Shrek 2 and just about every other DreamWorks game except the Antz games were made by someone else.
