Thanks for sharing this delightful movie. It is an unexpected treat to see Lon Chaney Jr. in a non-monster role. I never get tired of cute little movies like this.
Memorable Sterling Holloway, created and played the same character for years in dozens of films, the "go to guy" for this genre, and did it better than anyone else, tho many tried to create distinct, unusual characters, not as easy as it looks, and failed. His round shouldered, sardonic string bean, bow tied guy with the mop of thick straight blond hair was a winner, and another, the piano player who turned up years later as a very good Dagwood Bumpsted on the Blondie tv series. June 2022
The shot putter/ discus thrower was a VERY young Lon Chaney ... Here with his first name being Creighton Chaney. Later in his adult life he was cast in roles as a werewolf. 😮😊
Kept racking my brain wondering why an actor's voice and demeanor were so familiar - the guy that ws "Bobby" was also Dagwood Bumstead in the Blondie movies.
Arthur Lake was in many movies in 1930th, I saw him at least in 3, one was with Gloria Swanson in Indiscreet. He always plays this goofy sort of romantic character and has exactly the same gate in every movie. In Blondie movies he is much older.
What a wonderful and delightful movies. Far better than the new shoot them, kill them and slash them movies we see anymore. I wonder if those wonderful years will ever come back.
Originally released by Monogram in November 1934. Later reissued for TV by Motion Pictures for Television in 1951. Screen writer/lyricist George Waggner later credited himself in future movie and TV projects as "George WaGGner".
Let's not forget Arthur Lake who played Dagwood in all those funny movies. Sterling Holloway, who had a long career, was the voice of Winnie the Pooh. This is a really fun movie.
I have to confess that a few years ago, after I got a set of those Dagwood movies, I enjoyed them for a short while. However, the predictability of the their style just grated on me and decided that this series was just not for me. They are well done, just not my taste.
@@RRW1982 I do agree. They are enjoyable once or twice but are quite predictable. The only one we continue to watch is the haunted house one. We all love Dagwood but Blondie is too manipulating. And we liked Mr. Dithers but his replacement Mr. Radcliff is unbearable. I wish that Arthur would have done more movies outside of the Blondie movies in his crazy style.
Sterling Holloway, who played "Spec Early" in the film, and first seen @ 2:25 (the one in glasses and dark sweater), was always about 40 years ahead of his time as far as hair styles for men go. Such an interesting character actor.
david brown Sterling Holloway may not have been the handsomest guy, but he was blessed with a beautiful head of hair. He never seemed to have oil in it like the other actors of his time, but it was thick and healthy, so he could style it any way he wished. He was always around, showing up on The Andy Griffith Show, as well as countless Disney cartoons. His Winnie The Pooh voice left an endearing legacy that that will live on.
Rarely was he this "high" in the movie credits as he is here. More often than not, he wasn't even in the credits! Remembered by me most for playing bizarre professor/scientist-types in The Adventures of Superman.
Arthur Lake was in Indiscreet with Gloria Swanson. Released in 1931. One of my favorite movies and Gloria Swanson shows what a great comedian she was! He played a love interest of her sister. He always has similar roles and particular funny gate.
the ventriloquist scene is priceless. as if the others can't hear him. whispering would make more sense but we can't have that. has to be realistic - like the girl following and sitting in silence. and i'm still dumbfounded they managed to drag the band out of the piano.
07:57 - 08:32 'Kittens' (Jeanie Roberts) was the 'laughing nurse' in Men In Black with the Three Stooges, also released in 1934 ruclips.net/video/DcK5cWR7R3w/видео.html
I was confused by the first ten seconds of the film where title plate says "Motion Pictures for Television, Inc. Presents." Apparently those words were added around 1950 when films were adapted to that new-fangled TV invention.
It's a good thing television took on these old films when they did or many of them would be gone now. I can't remember the movie I was watching a few years ago, but in one scene the guy joked with his wife about having the time to watch all the movies for free on TV that they didn't have the time or money to watch "20 years ago"!
Motion Pictures for Television {MPTV} reissued a number of Monogram films of the 1930's and '40s, beginning in 1951- and in doing so, refilmed the opening titles to reflect their ownership.
He was trying to avoid his father's heritage (even using his given name, "Creighton", to distance himself from his famous name), playing roles as far from Lon Sr.'s grotesque and outrageous characters as possible.
hey yall quit dancing i have some gossip that i'm just giddy about and then it's bedtime. this blonde guy is quite possibly the most cringe character i have ever seen. he should hook up with the cartoon voice girl - Vaudeville energy. classic "comedy".
Best film ever in the laughter zone
nice pinky ring there Dagwood. even nicer hidden orchestra band that keeps playing inside of the pianos. 😂
The college campus in the opening scene is UC Berkeley with the Campanile (clock tower).
I think people had more fun 100 years ago than they do now!
Imagine a bunch of regular guys now singing around a piano!
My house every week. You’re hanging out with the wrong people.

Wow they were all so young!.... adorable

He played Bert Miller on Andy Griffith too!

A very young Arthur Lake. Lon Chaney Jr as well. Sterling Halloway they were great actors.
Love this movie

Thanks, I was trying to place him too, Arthur Lake.

I love all the Blondie movies! Yes it's Dagwood, Auther Lake!
07:57 - Jeanie Roberts comes into view. She was the 'hiccupping nurse' in the Three Stooges' short, Men in Black, also released in 1934.
What a wonderful and delightful movies. Far better than the new shoot them, kill them and slash them movies we see anymore. I wonder if those wonderful years will ever come back.
If Hollywood producers, would read our comments, we might have a chance!
Haha. Twins Nip & Tuck 🤪. Music professor E.Phlatt 😂😂😂

I hadn't read yours when I wrote mine, both of us appear to be old movie afficionados tho your's is years before mine.

Interesting!
Wow! Why that’s Dagwood! From all the Blondie and Dagwood movies. No mistaking that voice of his!

@@DAquingil Winnie the Pooh...
@@DAquingil He was both handsome and cute at the same time! I always love hearing his soft voice since my early childhood!
Gotta love the full band when the twins were dancing!

Love seeing good old Dagwood
I can't believe I'm watching a 1934 film whose lead actress is still alive
sadly, not anymore, Mary Carlisle passed away at 104 💔😭
kaneki-ken wow
@@kaneki-ken96 Anas put the curse to her
This movie is 88 years old as of 2022.
Charming little film from Movie's Golden Age

Sterling Holloway's hair looked absolutely bizarre at that time. Men wouldn't wear their hair that way until around 1966.
Who are you ? Vidal Sassoon ?! 😄
His hair was actually perfect for him!
Poor Creighton later changed his name and became a murderous werewolf.
Good movie!!
Hike your shorts up men this a track meet!
33:09 Whoops, gotta go, coach - she's got a '34 V8 Ford.
Oh my!
Is that Dagwood Bumstead?
AKA. Arthur Lake?

SO, I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE PLAYING "CATCH-UP"😏🤣🙂
Love Jeanie Roberts !!!
Funny guy's of the thirties.
Harry high shorts............
Lon Chaney, junior, had a different movie persona before he started playing in monster movies
He was trying to avoid his father's heritage (even using his given name, "Creighton", to distance himself from his famous name), playing roles as far from Lon Sr.'s grotesque and outrageous characters as possible.
MY MOTHER LIKES HIS FACE!🙂(SHE LIKES "EMPATHY)🤔🧘♀️🙂
