There are some people with a lot of knitting videos out there but you aren’t really able to see what they are talking about making their teaching video basically useless. When I want to learn something I immediately search your videos because you clearly show your work during the explanation. Even doing slow motion and repeats. You are the best Norman! Thank you so much.
This technique is very useful I've been knitting for 2 to 3 year's now and I didn't know how to mix colors they didn't teach me yet but I'm happy that I know now and I will start making my own clothes instead of of using my parents money thanks so much for this video ❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely fabulous 🙂 I only started knitting this summer, and am working on socks. I could never have done it without Norman. Thanks so much for all that you do. 🙂
I have just begun knitting and at the point where I want to attempt some more advanced projects. I discovered your videos and your advice and explanations are just wonderful. Thank you!
I have just come across your channel, I LOVE it!!!! The instruction you provide is detailed and and simple to follow; I’m thankful for the slow motion parts as well. Thank you for your work and support of us new knitters!!
Thank you Norman, I am learning so much from your videos. I started knitting this year in honor of my mother who passed away from cancer. Your videos adds a lot of value to this community and I am sure people are enjoying listening to your kind voice all around the world. Keep up the good work and I wish you the best from Norway. PS. I am waiting for you to release a tutorial on a basic sweater design. I hope you will make this in the future.
hei hei, Nicholas. Glad my videos can make a difference and you can reconnect with the heirtage of your mother. I am actually working on the sweater tutorial as we speak.
Thank you so much! I appreciate that you explain while showing and then show process again in slow motion - it is so very helpful. You are a wonderful teacher!!
Glad it was helpful! and yeah...so often I sat in front of the screen trying to replicate a technique thinking..."not sooo fast...damn..too blurry..why did they move out of the frame" :P so I am trying my best to be better!
Hi Norman. Great video! Thanks for sharing so many useful techniques! I love the way you blended those colors on the last example. It makes for such a beautiful fabric! I would love a full tutorial on Helix knitting. Thanks again for a fantastic tutorial and a great resource!🤗🤗
Yeah, i mean..it's just one example and the real fun starts when you introduce a 3rd color (like black or white) and use that for the transition. When I was a kid, I was obsessed with color transitions.
Thank you so much Norman, your videos are wonderful! I’m a new knitter from the UK and I’ve found your videos so clear, I feel a lot less worried about giving some of these techniques a go! Have a lovely day! x
When I say I said "OHHHHHH" out loud when you showed the k2tog trick in the round I need you to know it was loud enough to startle my cat. Because I said OHHHHH loud enough to startle my cat. Crushing it with another awesome tip Norman!!
I always learn something from your videos even if it has nothing to do with the original topic. Nobody else has mentioned and I wouldn’t have considered that the floats would restrict the fabric stretch.
Great tutorial! I will need to watch it many times to practice since this is a new technique for me. I have been afraid to do color changes in the past. Thank you for guiding me into new territory! Love to all!
that took me a loooong time to figure out properly. It's not 100% mirrored but only 99%. still pretty satisfied. Spent like the full wednesday breeding over the issue when I noticed that the version I was taught back then actually isn't the exact same result.
Thank you, Norman. Very informative as always! Yes, I would be very interested in a Helix knitting tutorial. Thank you so much for sharing your talent.

I would be glad to have a full helix knitting tutorial. I started a 3 stranded helix hat 5 years ago which I abandoned and can't remember what I was doing! Help would be appreciated :) plus, this tutorial came out just when I was hoping for color changing help! What wonderful timing!
I just finished my first knitting project, a scarf for my best friend's Christmas. My next project I'm trying to do is a cow print blanket so lots of color changes! So excited
I like your new knitting needles. Thanks for these many ways to change color. Quite useful ! I also discovered the knitting thimble, which seems like a great tool.
Thank you so much for your channel. This video and others have been so helpful. You are a joy to learn from! You inspire me to try new things every time I go to your videos. Thank you for all you do! 😘
Thanks for this. I know I am sometimes surprised or not totally happy with my color transitions. I sometimes want to use rows of solid colored yarn and variegated yarn and this makes happy contrsts or sometimes yucky looking stuff.
Note! :) well, the technique is almost the same. But you will have to work with a fresh ball IN THE SAME COLOR for every row you want the stripe to be wide. So it can become quite...fiddly and prone to tangle quite quickly.
Your videos always a blessings for a newbie knitter like me.. thank you so much Norman.. Also can you make a video on ways to pick up stitches and how to avoid underarm holes in a top down projects?
Amazing video! Thanks so much for showing how to do the twist and weave on a purl stitch. That was by far the best explanation I have seen from anyone and will definitely give a go now :) Just out of curiosity, let's say that you were doing reverse stockinette stich, how would you get the tails from a colour change to end up on the wrong side?
that will be a bit more difficult to figure out, and to be quite frank, I don't have an answer for you. I would have to toy aruond myself and find a technique for that. But my gut feeling says, this method here is your only truly viable method: nimble-needles.com/tutorials/how-to-add-a-new-ball-with-the-overlap-join/
Thank you so much, Norman! Your instruction is so clear and nicely paced so I can easily follow. Will you provide more about helix knitting for beginners?
Thanks Norman, I learn something new from all your videos... Just finished my first hat following your advice on left leaning decreases. As a newbie, I was wondering why you didn't have a video for right leaning decreases😂... Now I know ♡
well to be fair...there should be a video about it as there are quite a couple of considerations as well. But, as you probably realized by now it's less pressing and more a super advanced thing.
yes, I know..that'S the problem with etsy shops. But I think if they send you a message, they will custom produce them. That'S how it worked with me as well :)
Those needles are absolutely gorgeous. What are they? I’ve never seen anything quite like them. Thank you for your videos. They are so very clear and easy to grasp.
those are made from glas. Not even sure if they are still being produced! I thought they would be fun...but then i dropped one and stepped on it and it shattered (well same would have happened with wooden ones)...so i discared the idea of using them for my videos.
D’oh! I hate it when that happens. I recently was making a sweater on a set of my Hiya Hiya interchangeable needles, and the connector just snapped right off. I’d been using these needles pretty much constantly for 3-5 years now. So, not terribly surprising. I’m pretty hard on needles, and glass, while stunning (!!!!!), would be lost on me. It would take my klutzy hands about 30 minutes to destroy the needle. 🤣😜😳
Fabulous instruction! I've subscribed. I'm trying to knit a rectangular shawl using 2 colours of 4 ply that has single alternating colour rows with 10 stitches of seed stitch for the edging. Unfortunately the edge is untidy as both colours end at the same edge to be carried up every 2 rows. Any tips on keeping it neat? Maybe I'm trying to do something impossible and I need to do 2 rows of a colour before changing but the alternating single rows of stocking stitch inbetween the seed stitch edging looks so pretty.
@@NimbleNeedlesI'll look out for it. In the meantime I'm going to try some swatches adding some of the options from your video on neat edges. Maybe the edge that's like an I-cord or just a neat stitch or 2 that looks like stocking stitch at the edge.
Love your videos. Can you show how to do your twist and weave method to join new yarn using English way of knitting as you she perfectly using continental but I’m struggling to convert it to English style. Please and thank you in advance.
hey gina. Sorry, I don't do english style tutorials here on my channel :( BUT in this case, the method is exactly the same. I mean, it doesn't involve any knitting.
Thanks for another great video. I'm not sure if you've done this before but I'd love some guidance on knitting in the round. I recently tried it and was hopelessly lost by the time I got to the second row.

Hi Norman! I really enjoy your videos and am learning so much. I do have a question. I'm new to intarsia and the pattern switches from knit to purl when changing colors. I've watched your video on intarsia, but I didn't see you do that. Can you include that in a video for me, please.
i'm afraid I can't do personal requests. This video shows you how to change with a purl stitch. If you can't figure it out, kindly contact the designer of the pattern.
Norman, will you please show us method #2 in the other kind of knitting? The not European knitting? I can’t figure out how to adapt your favorite method of changing colors😆 Thank you!
my channel is all about continental knitting. HOWEVER, you need to set away your yarn/needles anyway to join in a new ball. So, why don't you try to replicate this with your left hand...i mean, you are not knitting a single stitch here, just weaving things in, more or less. and then just switch your your normal way for the first real stitch.
@@NimbleNeedles Thank you- I will try it. I’m sorry, I’m not trying to be a pain, I could have sworn I saw you demonstrate both ways with another video. I can usually figure it out… but I’m used to the way you explain things and I watched done of these yesterday and it’s pure genius. The changing colors with the ribbing and doing a straight stockinette row. I was talking out loud to you- “That’s pure GENIUS!” I meant no disrespect. Thank you and hope this doesn’t wake you. 😉🙂
that entirely depends on your project. So, obviously using a knot doesn't work but you can do it one stitch before or later with any of the methods I showed you that apply.
Hi Norman how did you make your knitting such even tension that looks like a machine knit. I found if I use Flicking it is more even but very tied and continental some stick is almost twice a large specially when I’m tired. I love your new needle, but I wish they were lighter shade easier to see if knitting dark color.
well...practise, I guess. I did, however, upload a video on my patreon account just this sunday where I adress the tension issue a bit www.patreon.com/nimbleneedlez
Norman - can you please show me how to do a P2YO (Purl, yarning over twice on this st)knitting stitch. Once more I will be very gratefull for you help.
Thank you Norman helpful as always! What combination of techniques would you suggest for joining colours (one pair to another pair) when doing double knitting in the round?
Hi Norman, I have a question. I am making a blanket for my son. I want the blanket to have a solid color 2 inch garter stitch border and stripes on the inside. What color changing technique would you recommend? Some patterns say to do an applied border by picking up along the edge of the blanket, but I’d prefer to make in one piece. Thank you thank you for your time and help. 🙏🏽☺️
Have you done anything with Faire Isle tutorials? I was looking through your RUclips channel but didn’t see anything. My grandma used to knit these jacket sweaters (mostly with deer on them) from, I think, kits from a place that starts with a M..M… but she stopped knitting and passed before I got serious about my knitting/crocheting journey. So I never was able to learn from her. I’m hoping to keep some family knitting traditions alive. My daughter is trying her first knitting project ( a cowl) at age 25 and I couldn’t be more proud of her efforts.
Just discovered your channel today! Your explanations are great! May I ask...when we change colours in garter stitch, say a scarf, how can hide the change at the end of the row? I have tried many different ways, but I can't the answer myself.
@@NimbleNeedles When I change the colour in the beginning, then knit one row and turn to continue. That last stitch of the row shows the change of colour...that's what I mean. How do I hide the change showing?
Norman, I love your tutorials as you know. Also, I want to purchase those gorgeous needles. I am looking for large stitch markers. I liked the large white that you showed in the vicuna yarn video. Can you give me ideas on where to purchase those? Thank you very much.
those are by ayafibers...but dunno if they are sitll available. The link for the needle is in the description but I think you need to message them and they'll custom produce them for oyu

Norman - can you please show me how to do a P2YO (Purl, yarning over twice on this st)knitting stitch. Once more I will be very gratefull for you help.
sorry..i don't have the time to do custom consultations.
Thank you Norman helpful as always! What combination of techniques would you suggest for joining colours (one pair to another pair) when doing double knitting in the round?
i would probably do something like overlap and knit double or the russian join.
@@NimbleNeedles thank you
Hi Norman, I have a question. 🙏🏽☺️
well, in this case you can only go for intarsia. i have a tutorial here on my channel.
My daughter is trying her first knitting project ( a cowl) at age 25 and I couldn’t be more proud of her efforts.
no, not yet. but it's high up on the list :)
If you pull the yarn properly when completing the join, should you have a “bump” on the back that mirrors the bumps of the stockinette pattern?
there are 10 methods here..you kinda need to say which one you are talking about
@@NimbleNeedlesmy apologies for not being more specific. I was referring to your favored method-twist and weave.
@@kellymousley yes, it will leave behind a little "knot". this is what gives this security.
Just discovered your channel today! Your explanations are great! May I ask...when we change colours in garter stitch, say a scarf, how can hide the change at the end of the row? I have tried many different ways, but I can't the answer myself.
I have a video on weaving in ends you might want to check out. I show quite a couple of different ways there
@@NimbleNeedles When I change the colour in the beginning, then knit one row and turn to continue. That last stitch of the row shows the change of colour...that's what I mean. How do I hide the change showing?
Is there a way to change colors neatly when you slip the first stitch purl wise with the yarn in front?
you can anchor the tail a couple of stitches before and sort of weave it in as you go so you can slip it.
Norman, thank you! I used your twist changing color method and it was great! Do you have a Patreon account? I would love to support you there as well. 🙏🙏
working on it. for now, I "only" have a buy me a coffee account. I pinned a comment with the details.
❤❤❤ Thank you!
