  • The arm of this Technics SL-1900 will not go up or down due to old, sticky grease. Watch me tear down the arm to repair this common issue.

    Just Picked one of these up For $100. The Arm wont go down & when you go to 45 it stops. Its fun to get them working again, someone told me the one screw hard shell is worth $50. It's working fine now that I removed all the old grease with alcohol & Q-tips, Regressed with Finish line Bike Grease a few drops of Tri Flow for the Main Bearing. I used Deoxit on the Potentiometers & the 45 started working. Love this Table with a AT 3600L that I got for $18. This arm is similar to my SL-2000 as well.

    I think you are doing a very good job on your presentations for these repairs, the only thing I think you should do is to protect the dust covers when you turn over the TT. I myself have done many TT repairs, keep up the the good work.

      Thank-you. Most of these tables have very scratchy dust covers to begin with. But, if the cover is mint, I will put a towel down.

      If I understand you correctly, I think you have re-installed your arm improperly. Remove the arm again and re-install it. Make sure it swings freely before screwing it back down.

    Hello, I just came across your video. I have a technics SL 1500 MK 11 and the cue lever does not work. I had it to another shop and was told the grease inside is like tar and is not serviceable. Is this true? From what I'm hearing this is a constant problem with the SL series tables. I'm anxious to hear what you think. Thanks.

    I recently checked my Technics SL-220 and it looked like the belt had loosened and come off; I spun the record manually to check that the needle/amplifier worked; also used the Stop and tone arm lift levers; and the lift mechanism became stuck in the up position; I can force it down but it returns to the up position i.e. making records unplayable. I've had a look inside but in moving it up and down I couldn't see anything moving so it looks like it would require disassembly of everything in that area. I suspect a lower risk approach would be to get some pliers and cut off the plastic bar and its two supports and thus have a manual only setup. The only issue I can think of is that with the auto stop/return that it would drag across the record if it works (haven't used it for a year or more; I don't think it did). Any comments or advice would be welcome.

      Probably just dried up old grease. Complete disassembly, cleaning and re-lubrication should do it. Service manual downloadable from vinylengine.com

    I think this is my exact problem with my 1900. Also my turntable is going too fast on 45 even at the slowest setting (33 doesnt work at all..). Hoping cleaning the contacts works. As for the stopping arm, what kind of cleaner and grease did you end up using?

    Hey TurntableGuy, I have a Technics SL-1900 as well, however I am having the opposite issue. The arm lifts and lowers just fine manually, but upon automatic start/return, the needle will drag across the record instead of lifting. Is this an issue that could be resolved by a cleaning and grease replacement as well? Or do i perhaps have a spring or gear issue of some sort?

    • @TurntableGuy
      @TurntableGuy  2 года назад

      Check the cueing lift height. There should be an adjustment screw on the side of it.

    Greetings @UCbs_18qFHtAnjWwEF0I-ggQ , it is a pleasure to deal with a connoisseur of turntable repair and maintenance, the truth is that I really want to learn how to repair them and why not restore them ... I'll tell you my grandfather gave me a Technis SL 1900, it turned on but the turntable didn't turn. It is a direct motor but can you tell me how I can solve it or the possible failures for which this turntable does not turn? I thank you.
