Old homes need loving, responsible caretakers like you. Please do not build! Reuse, restore, recycle that is how we will keep New England the charming place it is. You are so talented and old houses need you! The 1790s house and 3 barns next door to me were destroyed, the land clear cut and now there is a 7,000 square foot "mansion" there. People say I should be glad since it will make my property value go up but I would do anything to have that friendly old house back. I feel like I live next to a hotel!
I like how you said that. I keep telling Ben, if I won a billion dollars, I would be saving old homes all over New England! So true about saving and keeping New England homes safe. I will try to do my part if possible!

Stay! Grass is always greener. I have my great grandparent's home. I love the wavy glass, the creaky floors, the original hardware, the very steep stairs, I'm even learning to manage the plumbing installed by the Roman's. Some things I would change, but not enough to move.
Yes to dropping off notes/contacting home owners. A friend was visiting the block where she grew up. She knocked on the door of a home she had always admired and spoke with the owners. She gave them her phone number and asked if they would call her if they decided to sell. They did. She and her husband bought the lovely San Francisco Victorian and have lived in it for over thirty years. Best of luck with your search. I'm interested in your journey.

Linda ... I love riding along w/ you on your adventures ! The classic homes are beautiful and love going to & seeing your treasure finds -- keep it rolling ...💁
You sound like my kind of person. The newest home I have ever owned was built in 1956. To say I love older homes would be an understatement. I now live in a 1892 Queen Anne Victorian in a small Mississippi town.
You could create a video of ghost stories at Halloween time. Label it as such, and those who are interested can view it and the others can pass. I'd love to hear about some of those experiences!
I enjoy your channel and your personality so much Linda! I felt so relaxed watching this, though I am sure that you are stressed out about looking for the right home.
Right? I'd give about anything to live where she does. Gorgeous house, New England...ugh. Like, I'd trade my husband of 26 years in for her home and location. Just kidding...kind of.
This Janice would like to say I ALWAYS enjoy your vids! 🙂 My daughter and son-in-law recently moved into a home they planned and built in Kansas, while living in Alabama. My son-in-law is in the Air Force, my daughter a dentist-so, they were both working and planning this house at a distance-while she was pregnant. He was being transferred, she had to find a new job in Kansas before they moved. Talk about STRESS. They are still working out a few issues with the builder but had to live in an apartment until the build was complete as he had to report for duty. The house has its’ perks, the deck and view of a nearby pond being my favorite things, but how they managed it all is amazing to me. They are both in their thirties, which helps I think. Yes, building is so dependent on the quality of the builder employed, and their sources. Same is true of remodeling. Linda, I have a paint problem I’d like to ask your advice. Of course it’s a problem with WHITE paint! I live in a condo, have for 25+years. When I moved in the paint color was an off white that seemingly had no undertone. I LOVED IT. It did, however, glow beautifully in the various lighting from outside all day long. My place needs repainting and I am looking for the right paint available currently. Any ideas or suggestions? I’ve been everywhere locally, looked at numerous sources trying to recreate what was in my place originally (no record exists) but I am still very nervous about the whole thing. I am a single person, renting, and will tackle some of this task myself. Also looking for a crisp white trim paint recommendation. Thank you SO much for any suggestion 🙂 Thank you for the road trip touring so many beautiful places!
I suggest you scrape off some paint. Quite a large swatch and go to Behr, Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams and get them all to match it. Then paint 3 boards and do two or three coats. And determine which one you love.
Thank you for the tour, Linda. Oh, I wish to live in New England and those colonial homes are to "live" for. Wishing you the best in your search for your forever unicorn home.
Enjoyed seeing and hearing about your adventure. I would agree that maybe you should just wait for the market to change. We also used the technique for our Daughter and Son in law to write a very nice letter and send it to homes they would be interested in. Our Daughter thought we were nuts and thought it was a waste of time. They received a call 2 weeks later from a nice gentleman who had been thinking of retiring to another state. He invited them to come to his home for dinner so they could discuss it. Our Daughter called us and told us she thought this man was crazy. Who invites you to dinner to see a home!! We told her be nice and go to dinner. Long story short they bought the house and fixed it up. Later when they outgrew the house they sold it for a nice profit. Yes, this is a true story. As for building ----have you seen the price of lumber right now? Yikes, I would vote against building right now. A 2x4 is now 7.99. Enjoy your beautiful home. Things happen for a reason. blessings, Sue in Southern Delaware
So happy to see the pie crust table at the beginning....Brandt. My dad was a designer for Mr Brandt and worked for Brandt for years, designing and selling. Great memories and good solid furniture.
Love your channel! I feel your build or not pain! My husband and I bought a beautiful lake lot, hired an architect, and he designed our dream home for that beautiful spot. That was 2019-2020. Mid 2020 (and as building prices escalated!) we lost our building desire and have no regrets as we purchased a newish, age-in-place home that we love! You’ll know what’s right for you - move, stay-put, or build!
Hi Linda I'm sick with a sore throat so your travels hit the spot for me I understand you when you talked about hearing the birds... we live in a small village called Byron it was incorporated by London Ontario...but when we first moved here in 73 people would ride their horses down our road like an English village one time the foxhunt people even came down the street what a sight scarlet jackets and black velvet dressage helmets thank God no fox I would have run out and rescued it...Its not a village anymore and even in the backyard it's a pleasure to hear the birds at certain times of the day. Mr. Storey looked very dignified I thought especially in his wig.. and may I say there was something akin about the NOSE! We here in Canada drink a lot of tea like the English but my Dad and Mum needed their coffee in the morn eh? I liked the house where you left the note being intrigued sounds positive I shall cross my fingers for you and Ben I think you two will be happy where ever you are as long as you have each other Bbyee Susan in London Ontario
Thank you Susan. And I always hated my profile since no other family members had it. Once I found Elisha, I was finally proud of it 40 some odd years later
Thank you for the tour! Yes dear...How cute is your Mr. Linda I loved the last house that was white but you said the yard was very small in the back. I believe everything happens for a reason and when it’s right you will find it. I have to say I’m in love with your home. It’s so cozy and your backyard is stunning. The stone wall with the gate that looks over the rolling hill is so peaceful. I love everything about your home. Looking forward to the next adventure ❤️
My husband and I decided after going through many homes to custom build our home on a lot we purchased prior. We never regretted it!! We lived there for almost thirty years until we became empty nesters and the house became too empty and the upkeep became more of a chore then a pleasure. We wanted to travel and spend time away from cold Ontario winters🌨️ In the end, home is where you find happiness and love💕
I love seeing all of the old homes. I love yours too. Maybe its really just what you need, but the problem is you cant live without the stress. 😉 Thank you for sharing your beautiful videos. I can't wait for the new wall paper. ❤
Loved all the homes, but your own home is the best. Also, be careful, just an fyi, but it is illegal to put notes or letters in a mailbox, only processed US mail is allowed. I guess if someone wanted to, they could report it. I had no idea until my husband told me and of course, had to look it up for myself. I know I had been guilty of this as well. 🤔
We decided to stay put unless we find the perfect home. I do have a video on why we are moving, but since then, I probably have enough for an update video.
I think about you every time I cook. I now use a cutting matt inside a cookie tray. It helps my counter and my floor and cupboards stay dry and so much cleaner, and you know, no one else told me to cut with a cookie tray with sides! Thank you! My family came from Stratford, CT in 1638, so I was curious about Connecticut and started watching your vlog. Thanks Linda!
There are so many things to consider when house hunting. Location, size of house and land, price...but the most important thing to consider is will Willow be happy! Good luck with your search.
Hi Rose! We keep her in mind all of the time and she is one of the reasons we want a big back yard. It would be for her to enjoy, with her energy, and keep her away from the road.
I, too, am house-hunting in this crazy market: RI, MA, NH. It is not easy! Like you, my family settled in this area back in the 1600's. I love watching to see what you find. I've had similar experiences: houses sold before I can visit, bidding wars, prices too high for homes that I would then wish to remodel. It's exhausting. Also, I lived in a haunted house (when I was young); it's something I take seriously. I toured one house recently, which was so choc-o-bloc with unhappy energy - I quickly left. No thanks! Good luck, Linda. Wh knows, maybe we will end up being neighbors!
We live in an 1809 cape that we have unmodeled. We knocked out walls to find fireplaces, pulled up tile floors to find the wide planks, etc. and we've had our share of ghosts. Our children are all grown and out on their own. We are ready to move. To where is a big question, so I would really appreciate your upcoming video on researching towns. I love your videos and your home is beautiful!
Hi Susan, Thank you for your story! I would love to hear some of your ghost stories to maybe share this coming October. You can email me if you would like to share!
Good morning Linda thank you for the tour . Linda you will know when you find your house it will talk to you take you time don’t know what’s your time line. Love your channel God bless you and family.🙏🏻❤️🥰🎁🌷🌹🌺🌸
I think your current home is beautiful and I love your yard. I live in an old farm house on a busy street, I think I would miss the traffic, when I want quiet I go to the back yard🙂
Boy oh boy...I’m feeling badly for you....in this part of New England, the minute you see a property that looks promising, it goes to someone else in the blink of an eye...we were so lucky to find this house and 30 acres....after four months, we have settled in nicely...always more projects to do, but it’s a fun process...best of luck in your search!
I really liked the house you didn't bid on, but cried after it sold. House hunting is tough. I searched for over a year before getting our current property. We ended up building and are very happy, but if I was in your area, I think I would want a historic home.
Linda, you have got a really nice husband and a beautiful home. Maybe you can built on your property whats missing, like a barn? Unless you have bad neighbors. I can tell you from experience, building a new home is lots of stress. I have done both, renovated an old farmhouse and built a new home. Both homes were very stressy. There was no difference. I love and watch everything you post. You always inspire me 🌹
we have an amazing home thanks to Linda, but with a longer term view it is the wrong house, on the wrong lot, on the wrong street, in the wrong town, in the wrong state :) .... but yes we have to remind ourselves constantly to enjoy 'today' because there are many things to enjoy here!
Hi Linda - your home is so beautiful & you’ve put so much of your heart & soul into it. Is there anyway you could make an addition on your home? A single level to accommodate you & Ben aging or aging parents? Land is nice but an excess amount could be a millstone around your neck. Something important to consider with aging is an easy access laundry room - not in basement or upstairs. An open bathroom and larger door frames & the halls throughout your home. We don’t want to envision ourselves in need however these are small things that will make a huge difference regardless. Just giving you some thought. Have a great week.
We sold our house around 2 months ago. It sold the first day that it was on the market. We were in a panic as we drove throughout the state looking for our next home. The house we found was the very last one we looked at and we really thought we would not like the location. However that proved to be wrong. As soon as we pulled up under the very tall carport we fell in love. The house had issues which we continue to work on but we feel this is truly home. We knew we were where we should be when we realized that we did not miss the other house at all. Upon moving in we felt we had spent a lifetime here. For now it’s one project after another. But we are slowly making it all ours.
@@newenglandfineliving it’s a beautiful home. It has many projects that have to be done before it comes together. I love the carport! No more snow and ice on the windshield.
Hi Linda! I love your beautiful, cozy home! I love your property and gardens. You have done a remarkable job decorating it. Me, I would build a new home to look old. I did just that and l loved it! We sold that home and I still dream about it. We now reside in Florida and I just cannot get used to the style of homes down here!! Good luck on whatever you decide as I am sure you will make the right decision! Have a great day! Hugs! :)
Linda, I think you and Ben should build! You have such an eye for design that building your own home would be exactly what you want. Yes, it can be stressful but so rewarding in the end. I have done this once and I would do it again in a heart beat! If this is to be your forever home make it what you want and not have to redo what was done before. I know you have loved doing that but anyway, for what it’s worth I vote build your own home! You and Ben are still young enough that waiting a year or so is not that long in the grand scheme of things. Good luck to you both! Mandy from Tucson🌵
Just as a little hint on looking for a home. Stairs isn't going to work for most as one ages, and only gets older and physical limitations are inevitable. Keep that in mind when doing your search! 😘 Blessings, Washington State 🇺🇸
Thank you! It is so true. It's one of the reasons we are moving since our aging parents have trouble visiting. We plan on electric stairs or an elevator if needed in final our age-in-place home.

That 2 little old sweet ladies lived in and they were twins , to my understanding they were 97 years if age . One had to be hospitalized and other one was sadly put in a home!! It came up for sale and after exhausting times of looking and was in our budget. This one sole to us!! We lived in it 12 years and the economy went under and so did we !!😞Once again we picked up the. So what I'm trying to say after all is We can't get old and antique houses out of our hearts and heads!!😛💝 I think its A Kindred Spirit!! We could never live in a new house , So when I saw your videos for the first time I was so happy to find another Kindred Spirit myself!!😂You are amazing and I love Antiquing and we take drives in the mountains often looking with pleasure at old houses!! Love how you ask your husband about going to look at houses and his answers reminded me of my husband and I lol.
"Yes Dear" is his favorite saying LOL
Good luck on your search for just the right place.
Thank you Lindy!
You sound like my kind of person. The newest home I have ever owned was built in 1956. To say I love older homes would be an understatement. I now live in a 1892 Queen Anne Victorian in a small Mississippi town.
Hi Carie, there is just something special for old homes.
You could create a video of ghost stories at Halloween time. Label it as such, and those who are interested can view it and the others can pass. I'd love to hear about some of those experiences!
We are compiling stories and hope to do just that! Boo!
I enjoy your channel and your personality so much Linda! I felt so relaxed watching this, though I am sure that you are stressed out about looking for the right home.
Thank you so much! Yes, it can get stressful and I keep having to remind myself, we don't have to move and we are in no hurry.
A shame we couldn’t see the inside of most of these.
This is my dream I’m from California and I want to move exactly here in a beautiful historical home east coast
☀️A fun video! 🙂
TFS. I just love your videos Linda. You make them very interesting and fascinating.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing, it was great!❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love your beautiful home! It must be hard to look for another one!
Right? I'd give about anything to live where she does. Gorgeous house, New England...ugh. Like, I'd trade my husband of 26 years in for her home and location. Just kidding...kind of.
It really is!
LOL
Love the house in the family trust, you have to rescue it!
Nothing yet. We are still on the hunt.
@@newenglandfineliving I sympathize. I’m on the hunt too and have been for a while. But that’s a secret between you and me 😏
This Janice would like to say I ALWAYS enjoy your vids! 🙂
My daughter and son-in-law recently moved into a home they planned and built in Kansas, while living in Alabama.
Thank you Susie! I do love the area and the homes here.
I would love a video on your tips to create your style in a home. I live your style - it is classic, traditional, warm and inviting.
Noted! Thank you Christine
I love your life goals, slow down and reduce stress. I would stop searching and enjoy your beautiful home.
Thank you so much! I am going to take your advice.
Thank you ☺️
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you for your personal story. A English style stone cottage we keep driving by, on our way to NH, might get a letter in their mailbox soon. ;-)
So happy to see the pie crust table at the beginning....Brandt. My dad was a designer for Mr Brandt and worked for Brandt for years, designing and selling. Great memories and good solid furniture.
I love hearing that!
I'd like to hear your ghost stories ☺️
So so many! Maybe my stories and some others are now sharing with me will be a fun October video!
me too!
@@newenglandfineliving Oh i can not wait
Agreed!
Thank you for sharing your story. It is a hard decision to make.
Well, even if you decide not to move it is fun to field trip with you. Thanks Linda!
Thank you for watching!
New subscriber. Love your narration.
Welcome aboard Rebecca! Thank you for subscribing and watching.
Thank you for your kind words!
Just a note to say how much I enjoy your channel! Thanks so much!
Wow, thank you Emily!!
Time will tell for what we end up doing. Thank you for sharing your home building story!
I love seeing all of the old homes. I love yours too. Maybe its really just what you need, but the problem is you cant live without the stress. 😉
Thank you for sharing your beautiful videos. I can't wait for the new wall paper. ❤
You seem to know me well! Yes, I hate stress, but thrive on it since it's all I know.
I dont understand why your looking. Your house is beautiful and it doesn't sound like you hate it. STAY!
We decided to stay put unless we find the perfect home. I do have a video on why we are moving, but since then, I probably have enough for an update video.
🌿 Meanwhile, enjoy your beautiful home and garden. Take time to relax! 🌿🌷🌿
I am. Thank you for the reminder
I adore your channel, and I always love to tell others about it.
Wishing you all the best in whatever path you choose to follow : )
Thank you so very much! It means a lot to me that you are sharing the love!
I love the doll house
I did too!
I'm exhausted just listening to this.
Hence the reason we are taking a step back and slowing down LOL
I think about you every time I cook. I now use a cutting matt inside a cookie tray. It helps my counter and my floor and cupboards stay dry and so much cleaner, and you know, no one else told me to cut with a cookie tray with sides! Thank you! My family came from Stratford, CT in 1638, so I was curious about Connecticut and started watching your vlog. Thanks Linda!
That is a good idea! Are you sure it was me that did that? I am forgetful for sure LOL, but I don't remember sharing that great tip.
I feel weird energy, too. It is real.
For sure!
Linda, Follow your heart don’t give up!! It took my husband and I two years to find our property. We have never regretted it for a moment!!
Thank you Joy!
We were house hunting for something like 5 years ,God lead us to where we now have been living for over 40 years, Worth the wait,
I have recently found your channel. I am thoroughly enjoying watching your videos. Thank you for sharing. From Jeanette in Adelaide, Australia.
Thank you for watching from Australia Jeanette!
You have beautiful home I love the exterior and the interior you did an excellent job I want to do my house the same way like you did
Thank you so much!
The one you left the note in was beautiful! I still love the home you live in now😄
Thank you!! 😊
We have a sweet Spirit in our 1880 Home
I love hearing that and I would LOVE to hear more. Feel free to email me if you care to share!
Good luck on your hunt!
The right home will come at the right time. Hang in there 😊. I feel like you would be happier in an older home. 😉🏡🕊
Thank you Donna!
I love the homes hunting home tour today.
Thank you Sandy!
Wow so nice.Stay connected dear
Thank you, I will
Good morning Linda thank you for the tour . Linda you will know when you find your house it will talk to you take you time don’t know what’s your time line. Love your channel God bless you and family.🙏🏻❤️🥰🎁🌷🌹🌺🌸
Thank you! We think the home has to find us now.
I think your current home is beautiful and I love your yard. I live in an old farm house on a busy street, I think I would miss the traffic, when I want quiet I go to the back yard🙂
I wonder the same things sometimes, but I miss hearing the birds and crickets during the day.
Thank you Cynthia.
I really liked the house you didn't bid on, but cried after it sold. House hunting is tough. I searched for over a year before getting our current property. We ended up building and are very happy, but if I was in your area, I think I would want a historic home.
Whenever I look at new homes, though I appreciate them and love them, they lack the story I enjoy living within.
Your present home is perfect! Stay!
We do love it, but our parents can't climb the stairs to get in to visit. One of the reasons we are looking.
It sounds amazing. A tall carport! Thank you for sharing Katherine.
@@newenglandfineliving it’s a beautiful home. It has many projects that have to be done before it comes together. I love the carport! No more snow and ice on the windshield.
I’d love to hear about your experiences with residual energy and residents of old homes
I feel residual energy and so does my twin sister. I feel it in homes, places, things....it is real.
I like hearing and knowing others understand
I might pull something together closer to Halloween and share stories others have shared with me too.
Hugs! :)
Thank you so much!
The place we both looked at was Whippoorwill Farm.
Ah yes! I loved that house
Me too, but nature was fast encroaching! And do you remember the kitchen?
It was a great ride along!
Thank you Debbie!
Would’ve love to see the inside of these homes! But I did enjoy the video, thanks for sharing!
I wish I could have shared. Some owners or realtors were not open to the idea. If homes were not selling, it might have been a different answer.
Lol… coffee vs tea. I enjoyed that comment.
:-)
Just as a little hint on looking for a home. Stairs isn't going to work for most as one ages, and only gets older and physical limitations are inevitable. Keep that in mind when doing your search! 😘
Blessings,
Washington State 🇺🇸
Thank you! It is so true. It's one of the reasons we are moving since our aging parents have trouble visiting. We plan on electric stairs or an elevator if needed in final our age-in-place home.
We love our ancestors, Zachary Taylor is my grandmothers 7th great uncle she was a Taylor from Kentucky 🤗🇺🇸
It's so interesting finding out about ancestors some good, some bad.
@@newenglandfineliving 🤔 we have military in our family going back all the way to the revolutionary war, my dad my son and grandson currently serving, Taylor’s have Mayflower passage, I can’t find very much bad, was the bad comment meant for me ?
The bad comment meant for everyone. I found out one of my great.... grandmothers was shot and killed through the floor of her home a week after one of my great.... grandfathers, her husband was killed. and I had so many ancestors who drowned at sea.
@@newenglandfineliving wow that’s so sad, we have a family cemetery at the Kentucky Indiana border still there today behind the Methodist church my ancestors built, a long line of church builders but they also grew tobacco, some tobacco barns still stand today .. I always tell kids in my class stay close to your elders and ask many questions... Did you do ancestry ? My mom’ s oldest sister kept writings and journals, may God rest her .. I do mostly research in Summer season “free time” .. Have a blessed weekend 🙏🏻🤗🇺🇸
Hello Linda
I hope you find your home with land. I can relate wanting to hear to birds, since construction has stopped the birds are back. Videos of the towns and stores would be nice. I could do a little shopping. Have a good weekend
Thank you!
I love your “Incognito Costume” 😂. Newer homes definitely have less upkeep; however I’ve found from experience, you cannot build the character of an old home into a brand new home. (We tried). 😉 Yours is waiting for you, I just know it!! 🙏🏻🤞🏻
Don't be surprised if I show up on your doorstep dressed like that. Ha!
Linda there is a house for sale in my neighborhood it’s been on the market for about a week or two. I live in Bear Path Hampton NH . The house is about 25 years old . Unfortunately there isn’t much privacy and some neighbors one in particular is very very nosy. I loved this video. Good luck house hunting.
Thank you! Yes, privacy, at least in the back yard is key for our move.
Hi Linda!☺Once again I find myself loving your videos! But I want to also tell you a story, I too live old homes !. We once lived in an Old Victorian house. Pieces and moved on to an old Farmhouse!!! Not a large house but perfect house for my husband and I.. We are closer to 64 years of age and think we might Do it again!! Thehubby not so much ha ha ha !!! So Thank You for all you do !!!! YOURE BETTER THAN M. Stewart!!!! 😂😂😂
Hi Sandy! What a sweet note. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your story with me / us!
I old boy build right now. Contractors and builders are stretched so badly with demand. Sometimes they just disappear for weeks at a time. Lumber is so expensive. It’s just not a great right now.
I agree! even on small projects we are doing, they leave and come back days later.
Hey Linda, I hope you hear something on the home that you put the note in the door. It looks like you inside and out. I’ve always wanted to visit the New England area. Have a great Memorial Day 😃
No good news Terry, the search is still on
As a realtor, I agree that the market is brutal for buyers.
and the lack of home inventory is hard on Realtors too right?
