AUD ECE Senior Design 2013: Self-Energized Smart Vision Stick for Visually-Impaired People

This ECE Senior Design Project won 1st place amongst 30 prototype projects in the 4th UAE Engineering Students Renewable Energy Competition (ESREC) 2013.

The "Vision Stick" prototype is a portable system designed for aiding visually-impaired individuals by:
● detecting different distances ranges of surrounding objects with reference to itself and alerting the user through vibration feedback,
● incorporating an automatic emergency SOS system by acquiring and sending its GPS location to an emergency contact via SMS, &
● self-charging its battery supply through a designed portable linear PM synchronous generator powered by human motion.
In addition, it is capable of delivering extra features such as:
● Stick Locator: you can simply call the stick and locate it through its ringtone.
● Automatic LED Switching: the stick will light up during the dark to alert other people and add safety to the user.
● Stick Foldability.
