I just read the following regarding automatic repeater offset ..
Note: the Yaesu FT-60R will automatically turn off repeater offsets if its current frequency falls
within the simplex ranges of the ARRL Band Plan and the ARS (menu item 4) setting is ON. So, if
the simplex frequency you select is outside these ranges, you must first set ARS to OFF.

I’m glad you brought this up, however there is a way to get it back to simplex without doing a factory reset. Once you turn ARS off and it still shows the repeater shift, go to menu 38, RPTMOD. When you go into that menu option, you should see that it’s set to the RPT-. Select the RPTOFF option and it’ll turn the shift off for simplex operation. Yet another quirk, but it’ll definitely save you time from having to reprogram the radio.

Agreed….Good info @mattxoverbey. Now, when I plug in a simplex freq the offset is gone, but the display still shows “T” for squelch tone…do I need to always manually go into Menu 48 to turn that off? Does it need to be turned off for simplex? Or, is there a Menu item where it I can turn off squelch tone all the time until I set up transmitting to a Repeater. Thank you. Robert…KO4CLB

@@VikingCook if you press the f button on your keypad then press 1, it’ll take you to your tone options. Turn it to off then you then the tone won’t show up.

I followed your instructions and indeed it did turn off the offset for a preexisting channel. However, I switched the channel and came back to the one I changed and the offset reappeared (after I had disabled it)...weird

@@GreasyGrits21 if you already programmed the frequency into a memory, if you change it, it will go back to how you originally programmed it. You’ll have to enter it into memory again with the correct settings.

Hi Scott, is there a way to have the ARS on and yet enter a 70cm simplex channel without shifts and tones? Thanks 73’s
