Thanks for this information! It’s let me finally understand my FT60 and actually use it. I was initially frustrated with this radio and tossed in the drawer a few years ago. The fog has lifted, Cheers

Glad I have found this video. I own one of those for 10 years and use it almost every day since then with No issues at all, other than batteries. Problem that I solved buying a LITHIUM-ION BATTERY. FNBV67LI. 2200mAh. And a charger.

I bought an FT-60 about 8 months ago and love it. Simple to understand and use. I had a VX-7R that started having issues with intermittently going to tone squelch where it’s audio would stop. Took me forever to figure out what it was doing. I think at least for me the VX-7R is just over complicated with stuff I don’t need. The FT-60 for me is perfect.

Thank you for starting this series! I picked up a used FT-60R at a HAM convention for a great price, and have used it for some transmitter hunts. Looking forward to more field use.

I agree with everything you said about this radio. Your journey through the Baofeng was similar to mine. But, when I finally bought my first FT-60, I realized that I WILL NEVER SELL IT. It is a classic, durable, excellent sounding radio. I loved mine so much that I bought one for my wife!

Great stuff, Scott, and I thoroughly concur with your thoughts on the importance of performance!
I think I realised that the Baofeng I bought on my return to amateur radio after a long time out, when a station 25 miles away I was working on 2 meters was giving me a 59 signal report, while I was struggling to hear him.
I then bought an FT-65, which received a lot better, and later an FT-70, better still, but then I happened upon an FT-60 at an SK sale.
I'd heard that these were sought after (bear in mind they were discontinued in the UK several years ago) by SOTA operators due the their excellent receiver performance, and comparison tests with my other HTs bears this out.
Once all the stuff I need to do following our recent house move is out of the way, I'll dig the FT-60 out and go activate some of the nearby summits...can't wait!
    73 and thanks, Simon G0CIQ.

Scott could you please measure the thickness of the radio at the top without the belt clip I read anywhere from 1”-1/3/4”. Thank you

A Gentlemans radio. Just like a small pocket knife reliable, ready to go.

A truly great radio, even all these years later. In some ways, better than the VX6.

Agreed. Though I sure wish it had more than 10 banks and those banks could be named ala vx6r.
