    I used to think that the ability to check profiles was a god-sent feature because it allowed me to dodge obvious cheaters but nowadays nearly every cheater plays on on Epic Games/Microsoft Store or use Anonymous Mode. So honestly I think perhaps Killers should not be able to see people's profiles until the match is over. But what do you think?

      Yeah, Ultimately It would be best to hide them.
      And I'm someone who actually Uses the information for the opposite reasons. I use it to Dodge matches against groups with sub 100 hours or who are brand new. I'm 4200 hours into this game, and I get people with 10 hours. Being able to tell who is who has allowed me to be nice to said players, go into the match with more chill builds ect.
      But I'm obviously an outlier. The Majority are using it to tunnel the weak link for sure.

    However, I was the type of killer who checked the hours of the survivors. Not to tunnel someone out, just to be aware of said survivor. I even dodged lobbies when I saw people with a crazy amount of hours due to anxiety. It surprised me that some people think this isn't a thing. IT'S a thing.

(Although he does address his thoughts about this issue in that regard at the end of the vid very briefly)
    Then I noticed that the way he talks about the issue and who he's talking to in this video is different; it's not directed towards the developers, it's directed towards the community, and what someone as an individual can do to mitigate this issue in their own personal games. You gain experience in looping by getting chased but sitting on a gen because 1 person can loop for 5 gens doesn't help you in the long run. 😅 Also to be fair having to drop chase and play scummy is how killers have to play to even get a 1-2k and feel like their having "fun" as much as survivors. There is a reason why people only play certain killers now. If they have a harder time tunneling someone out the game that just encourages players to pick killers like blight nurse or skull merchant. Nobody wants to play killer and have a 1:9 win to lose ratio with pig, legion, or twins. Winning is fun that's why survivors wanna escape not take chase, cleanse all 5 totems or open a chest and waste time for the killer to have decent time to get hooks in. People should want the experience and killers should have a right to feeling good after a match more often.

    I remember distinctly trying to have a nuanced conversation about the balance of eruption on the steam forums and being immediately called out for having a private profile. They told me to reveal it because my stance that "eruption is broken right now" meant I was so terrible that I had to be a sub-2k hour andy and i got about 20 people telling me to make it public so they could shame me for it. I've seen other posts throughout the near decade of this game's lifespan mirror this mindset, both in comments, in videos, even in Otz's own commentary as he tries to sus out whether or not a player is cheating; private profiles = bad at the game or lying.
    Hearing Otz ask the community to effectively 180 their stance on private profiles is a sign of the times. I can't imagine this problem ever being resolved by the devs, so the only possible solution is for the community to take half-measures.

    • @notOtzdarva

Why would pain res and pop be two of the most common killer perks if it turns a 0k over 5 minutes to a 0k over 7 minutes. The ability to slow down gen speeds by knocking one survivor out the match so early is why it works. You make it seem like it's still the same outcome just over a longer period. I do not blame killers who tunnel, some people just want to win and 'morals' in a videogame is silly but acting like aggresivelly tunneling out one survivor doesn't guarentee 80+% of your games if you're using a decent killer is insane.@@djekdozovitch3679

    This is a feature that 100% needs to go, with the prestige levels (maybe even items?), sadly there is not much we can do at this point if BHVR doesn't do something by themselves
    ---> You shows hours, you might be ignore just for that;
    ---> Your anon mode, you might do something that looks slightly too good, and the chase ends in 10 seconds;
    ---> Your anon mode and you do a mistake, hardcore tunnel ( normally not a problem, but on solo Q during events, it can be);
    ---> Playing the P100 is out of question sometimes (last minute change, gets you avoided/not last minute change and you get a lot of dodge's);
    ---> Playing it less exp friends is okay if they can deal with the tunnel, but it's impossible to bring new friends into the game because A it's a hard game to get into, and B they might just get tunnel because the killer knows they are weaker ( either cosmetics/ prestige level / name or the profile) and it's a massive red flag to a game if you have to tell your friends " yea but you have to hide your account)..

    I believe what I'm doing as a killer, most of the killers do the same ( or close to) :
    I just check every ppl in the lobby to see what is against me, check if swf or not from friendlist etc. Why ? If they are good players I'll record the game, always interesting to rewatch or just post it, If they are in swf or not, that will determine what results I must achieve and if I do lower, I really must progress.
    If it's a streamer, I always check if online and either say Hi, I'm the killer glhf before, and then I check the rebroadcast to see their perspective of the game, always nice to hear their comms, their comments and their POV for maybe doing clips later and share.
    And if they are average or bad ( lower than 2K hours), I'm taking an aura build for snipes on Huntress for example. So I'm adapting my gameplay according to the ppl in front. Not gonna bring 4 slow downs vs 1500-2000h each surv in the lobby, makes no sense they aren't good enough to pull up a fight vs me.
    Also, I never dodge my lobbies otherwise I wouldn't do winstreaks or no honor or respect to the sbmm.

  • @Night_Hawk_475
    @Night_Hawk_475 8 месяцев назад +21

    I think it's worth noting that there is a bigger reason that I personally find myself tunneling as a killer main: the "solution" to tunneling listed here where many copies of DS/OTR are brought is more than just a counter to tunneling - if you don't tunnel against a team with those perks they WILL weaponize them against you. Every survivor will take hits and force you into downing people with DS, or bodyblock with OTR if they know you're not tunneling. You'll eat four DS in a match before your first kill unless you actively try to ignore the other three and force yourself to pick one/two people to tunnel out as early as you can.
    "Anti tunneling" perks have been able to be utilized by survivors aggressively even when you're not tunneling them, and every time DBD tries to "nerf" tunneling by making anti-tunneling more powerful it only ends up further incentivizing tunneling because those same anti tunneling measures will be things you have to go through four times instead of once if you don't tunnel. BHVR really needs to work on rewarding killers who don't tunnel rather than giving survivors more aggressive weapons they can use regardless of tunneling.
    Edit: I wrote this before watching that first match, but it really proves my point. All the anti tunneling mechanics the other survivors used to punish otz would have been even worse if he'd tried to actually spread pressure to everyone at the start.
    Personally I do believe that killers shouldn't be able to see profiles/hours at the start of the game, or at least that anonymous mode should be default (if survivors really want to disable it to show off they should still be allowed to).

    I don't really play dbd anymore but love you otz, this is a really big issue for newer players if they want to play with any friends that have any remote amount of time in the game. It is so unfun to be tunneled out of a game and sometimes there's not really much you can do about it even when you know what you're doing or have a build for it, but it really feels bad to be targeted every game when youre new. Just watching everyone else play a 3v1 and either makes you angry or feel bad. The fact that it has only become more optimal over time is why I really can't bring myself to play anymore since many of my other friends are much more casual with games and I have much better games to play solo.

If someone has an abnormally low playtime - I've seen people with single-digit hours before - then I'll go out of my way to make sure that they get a learning experience with simple chases and a hook but will ultimately let them comfortably escape.

    If it's a strategy to target the weakest link who is very unskilled with loops, I would suggest Coup de Grace over Pop since it's a very difficult perk to counter for newcomers. There were a lot of scenarios where Coup would have gotten a hit on the target due to their poor looping. The problem with having Pop as something to do while you wait for the unhook is when it happens before you reach a gen, forcing you to turn back and waste it since you can't afford to lose your target.

And if their mates behave, sure they can play the game with me normally without me sweating then, because 3v1 is not in their favor anymore.

    I remember when they were testing the not showing Prestiges in lobby before games, was when I had the best time playing killer. I think its okay to have survivors be able to see each other's prestiges just to get a feel for how experienced others are in your lobby. However, as a killer, I enjoyed not knowing how much someone has played, as it gives me peace of mind, and allows me to enjoy the game how I wanted to. I know Prestige levels aren't an indication of how good someone is, but higher prestige does equal to more time spent in game (to level characters up). So yes, I do agree that if survivors aren't able to see killer levels/perks until endgame, then killers shouldn't be allowed to see survivor profiles until endgame either.

    Hiding game hours doesn't necessarily help, killers can look at DBD achievements or screenshots to figure out how experienced the player is, they can see the prestige levels, they can look at the friendlists to see how many friends are teamed up etc. The best "solution" is to use anonymous mode, but then you're robbing yourself of the opportunities to make new friends and teammates, to get positive comments, interact with people etc. This isn't the players' fault, obviously this feature shouldn't be in the game in the first place. How is it ok that the killers can see survivor's profiles but they can't see theirs? My understanding is that killers in the past used to be much weaker, and that feature was given to them as compensation? Otherwise it's completely pointless and unfair. Killers are no longer weak as they used to be, so this feature has to go completely. Maybe in a few years ™
