Breaks my heart how these old fashioned cooking methods are unheard of nowadays. My grandmother taught me how to make these when I was a young girl. :)

That is definitely an egg poacher in the UK.
A egg coddler is usually totally sealed with a lid and made from ceramic.

Back in the late 40’s early 50’s that was called an egg poacher. My momma had one and cooked poached eggs for my Daddy who was very ill. I know you poach directly in the vinegar water now but back in the day----🤣😂🤣

We call this an egg poacher, I live in Australia, but I am from the UK and we used to have egg coddlers there which are usually a porcelain or ceramic container with a lid and it could hold 1 or 2 eggs, the lid was then closed and the container was put into a saucepan of water to cook the eggs. They were usually very pretty (lots of photos on google). It was a very gentle way of cooking eggs.

Oh, I didn’t know the difference between coddled and poached eggs. My grandma years ago gave me one of those and since I moved recently and re-located it, I’ve used it like around 3-4 times now.

I’ve seen these contraptions in stores and at Hospice stores and I figured it had to be something to do with eggs. Seeing it used has inspired a mission for me and that my husband is going to make him roll his eyeballs. 😊 I love eggs

Google egg coddler and you will see what they are. They are not poaching pans.

Bacon fat would be the best 'liner' to help release the coddled eggs

These are poached eggs. I have eaten them all my life. I have egg codlers that are ceramic with a metal lid that screws on.

Frightfully sorry but that's not an egg coddler, it's an egg poacher which is completely the unauthentic way to poach eggs anyway.
Coddled eggs are done in a egg coddler , they are cheap and exceptionally easy to obtain even the quality ones........
