You’re conflating all knee injuries as though they’re the same, meniscus tear is not nearly as serious as ACL, MCL, PCL etc. Those examples of wrestlers having to “change” were probably ligament injuries. Ligament tears are worse and take much longer to heal and sometimes never go back to the way they were.

I sense an increase in Anxiety in Beterbiev for this one. His demeanour is more aggressive and I think he has been worried that this opponent really does present the possibility of his first loss. It is perhaps driving him to over-train too. I also am feeling that this fight will be a Bivol win. Feel it more now. I like both fighters though. Great ambassadors for the sport.

i agree, i think this injury seals the deal and gives bivol desive advantage, i think its 70/30 now, before the injury might have been 60/40 for bivol
Spot on . The wear and tear can't be good for beterbiev, especially as he's getting on.
He's 39 and complained of pain after Smith, which suggests wear and age related problems. That can still be an easy stitch up. But lateral movement against the frayed edges of the meniscus with aging is now a consideration. I notice he jumps sideways maintaining position in front of opponents. Turning makes no real improvement as the joint could also have rotational problems.
and he'll be more vulnerable. The fight needed to happen 6 months ago. Here's hoping he fully recovers, makes the fight in 6 months and then considers retirement.

Artur is a valuable property. His doctors advised the team, not just him. I suspect he has caught it in time, and would have fought if it was only him to think about. He will be allowed pain killers in the lead up to the fight if he wants them. Analgesics clear the system in a few days so no prohibited drugs issues.
