Isabel Oakeshott Admits “Journalistic Fail" For Not Covering Post Office Scandal Five Years Ago

  • TalkTV’s international editor has admitted that she “did not” cover the Post Office scandal story when she was first approached about it in 2019.
Speaking on The Talk, Isabel Oakeshott said she was emailed about the story by a key campaigner in the summer of that year.
When pressed why she didn’t cover it, she said: “There was something that failed to resonate with me. It was too bitty, it didn’t coalesce enough.
“That isn’t an excuse, but had it been a punchier, more professional campaign, this would have been resolved long ago.”
Rishi Sunak on Wednesday announced a new law to exonerate hundreds of Post Office branch managers caught up in the Horizon IT scandal.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said they were victims of “one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in our nation’s history”.
Hundreds of sub-postmasters were convicted of swindling money on the basis of evidence from a flawed IT system.

I toddled off to the P.O. with the takings handed them over to the guy behind the glass.

Had you, and been consistent to gain public awareness, those poor people that had their lives completely ruined, would have had recognition years earlier. I feel you are all 'woe is poor me' bleating because it took a docu-drama to do a job that you had daily and weekly access to provide. You all by point of your job title: Jounalist, should have done that in the first place. You all should have covered this story to get the plight full frontal in the public's face. Yet you didn't. All credit, therefore, rightly needs to go to those behind the docu-drama, for not failing the affected people, by not viewing the whole story as 'bitty,' but for pulling out the stops and helpng them, where you failed and did not help, for years.

My heart goes out to those Post Office masters whose lives been ruined by the maliciousness of those at Fujitsu and the PO. The govt should have revised the contract right at the time the first problems occurred. now resolve the compensation with immediate effect and not wait for the results of the review.

Politicians in this country seem to want to take the easy option. Some, mine, don't even answer letters, any letters on difficult things are passed on to a civil servant and their reply is sent back. There's no ownership and they've forgotten who is serving who.
I don't know if it is a modern affliction but most MPs seem to be incapable of asking difficult questions when told there's no problem, or 97% of scientists agree, which they never do on any topic. The same problem also affects most journalists.
But the biggest issue is outside work and consultancies easy money with future employment guaranteed.

Surely the greatest State Sponsored Terrorist Actmin History. That way we can get Sunak to move as quickly to put a stop to it? Or maybe his sponsors need to be consulted first?
