    I just bought a '20 Forester Sport and before the test drive I was hesitant because of the engine and transmission. I was actually surprised that the power is actually quite adequate and the CVT isn't bad at all once you learn how it works the best. The ride is smooth, the seats are comfortable, the cargo capacity is excellent, the AWD system is top notch, and the safety features are very reassuring considering I have a 2 year old and another on the way, so safety is a top priority these days. As long as you're not expecting a combination of a Jeep Wrangler for offroading and an STI for raw power, you'll be happy with it.

      How is the interior road noise? I’ve heard conflicting reports: one report says it is now on-par with the best in the class, and this review says it is still too loud. We are waiting for our local dealer to get one in stock to test drive and it is at the top of our new car list.

    • @triton302

      @@DavidRyanTaylor You're going to get some noise, mainly because of how much glass is around you. That said I don't notice it much and have my music or radio on 99% of the time. This is not going to be Benz or BMW quiet, just the nature of it.

    That symbol at the bottom of the infotainment screen is a NFC tag I believe. So if you're phone's capable you can setup macros/events to happen when you wave your phone across the tag (e.g. turn on bluetooth, connect to car, and open spotify). Usually people use IFTT to these up.

      The only function is serves in the all the new Subarus is to automatically pair the phone with the car via bluetooth, provided you have an NFC capable Android phone. you still have to click a bunch of buttons, it eliminates the step of having to go into the bluetooth menu and manually pair it.

    I'm considering replacing my 2017 Impreza Sport wagon with a Forester Sport. I love the styling of the Sport and the 8.7 in of ground clearance really comes in handy during the severe winters we get here in northern Ohio. The low ground clearance of the Impreza is the main reason I'm looking to replace it. I totally agree that the Forester Sport is a solid value compared to the competition. Although, the price has increased significantly since 2019, thanks to inflation, limited supply and high demand. That said, Rav4 and Jeep pricing have increased as well, so the Forester's value is still there, comparatively.

Yes, they are not direct competitors, in size, but are in price. I also like the 2019 Forester. Though a big factor is that I'm not a fan of the CVT. I must say we leased a 2008 Forester, and a base model at that, and we really liked it! I know this must be light years ahead! I've also had many Toyotas over the years and I will say that Toyota reliability is not a myth! Keep up the good work. Cheers!

      People sure love to hate CVTs. We have a 2016 Outback 6, and I'm impressed that the trans always picks the right ratio, right away, almost never producing the dreaded CVT drone except under hard acceleration.
      I'm less enthusiastic about the CVT in my Honda CR-V 1.5 turbo but that may really be the engine's fault. Way too much drone from the drivetrain, and now potential troubles with gas in the oil.

      ES Harris that’s a good assessment that echoes most reviews that I have read and seen. Even though we are long time Subaru owners I am also disappointed and probably out of the market for it because of the (relatively) weak engine and the competent but still lame CVT transmission. Given though that the 8-speed in the Rav-4 is the same unit that has been rallied against for its poor response in the new Camry (yet is the same unit that BMW uses) demonstrates that all is not perfect with a traditional unit.
      I tend to like the interior, switchgear of the Forester and it’s overall lines a bit better than the Rav-4 and its unsurpassed AWD, but like the port/direct injected configuration of the RAV-4’s engine better for its (supposed) longevity predictions. But GAWD that drivetrain of the Forester (and admittedly, I haven’t driven it) makes it a hard sell coming from my daily driver WRX.

    Bought one of these at the end of October. Already got rid of it for a ‘19 Santa Fe. Had horrible vibration through floorboard and through the wheel. Balanced wheels, swapped tires and even swapped the prop shaft to no avail. Not sure if it was the suspension or what... also glad to be out of the CVT.

      Having owned 2 SUbaru vehicles, I can verify that they are very reliable vehicles IF you keep up with your maintenance. Don't follow Subaru's oil change schedule (7500 miles). This is way too long for these engines. I always do oil changes at 5000 miles or less and my Subarus haven't had the issues others complain about.

    • @CRVgarage
      @CRVgarage Год назад

      Subaru now recommends oil change every 6k miles. My Forester 3yr old is doing just fine. I drive it hard & so far no complaints what so ever. If you like soft & cushy riding cars, you will like it too.

      I also spent a month deciding between Forester and Rav4. When Consumer Reports rated Subaru as best car company in America and rated the Forester at a 89 ( only two vehicles beat its score, another Subaru and the Toyota Avalon ) I went with the Forester. Love it so far. Although the Rav4 was my second choice.

    I don't know why, but Subarus tend to be ugly. And they are still ugly today. They are starting to become likeable, but only certain parts of their cars I like. That's the case with this Forrester. I don't like the front so much, but I like the back more... I wouldn't spit on it if someone gave it to me. If that rear wheel made your rear pucker, don't ever go serious off-roading in a Hummer that does not articulate at all. You'll pull the entire seat cover up the rear. And if that buckle is hard to understand, don't get any more technical. Your so-called off-road test is ludicrous. People can search the web and find actual, off-road examples. Not a great review of anything but the looks.
