Back in '92 my Mom bought me one of the first 'discman' players from the Bay department store after pleading with her. God love her, she was working full time and taking care of me and likely didn't have the money to buy that but she made it work. That little purchase changed my life completely; I will always thank her so much for that. That being said, my first CD was Gordon. I must have listened to it about 100920420490348502345 times. The icing on the cake was when the BnL toured Gordon and played the C200 in Sydney, NS - she got my tickets to that as well! My first CD and first concert were both the BnL and the album will always mean everything to me as a result. Thanks Mom! Thanks BnL!
I got to meet Steven a bunch of times back in the 90's. He always went out of his way to take time for his fans. Great guy, better musician. Really miss him in the band. Ed is great but certain songs should only be sung by Steven.
I really miss him too. It's even more apparent with the current band replacing Steven on some iconic BNL songs with their new Persuasions project. Old Apartment and Some Fantstic? why mess with that perfection?? I just don't get it!
Steven Page has such a great singing voice that worked so well with Ed Robertson’s voice, the chemistry was great.BNL feels empty without Steven but I respect the band for continuing as a four piece..always one of best Canadian bands!
It's like "Roger Waters presents Pink Floyd" or Rush without Neil, The Hip without Gord, "Sublime with Rome" Better than nothing, perhaps. But not necessarily...
Greatest singer of the 90’s and sorry but truly the only lead singer the band ever needed not a fan unless he’s the main guy what an amazing singer it was funky and different just like the 90’s was 🤘🏼🤘🏼
This song brings back so many memories; me, my teen brother and two of his friends driving from Charlottetown to Toronto for U2 Zoo TV tour, and "Gordon" on the CD player. Later in '92 or early"93, they had 2 sold out concerts in Charlottetown; at least they did until Page ended up in the Queen Elizabeth hospital with tonsilitis.
Should give Steven Page’s solo material a listen. I actually listen to his solo material more than BNL. Saw Steven Page at the Commodore in Vancouver and he puts on a great show. His voice is incredible live.
Love this video! These guys were and still are great! Miss Page with the rest of the ladies. Always drive around my area thinking back to "Lovers in a Dangerous time" seeing the old filming locations unreal to know these guys were that local. They're just getting rid of that big open field on Eglinton rd. that they danced in the finale next to the McDonalds of that video which is a sad site to see.
Rewindto91 I'm from that area and I love driving around, reminiscing. I only recently made my first trip to The Real McCoy restaurant that's in the video. Do you know what the side streets are in the video?
I lived in that area of Scarberia back then when they shot the vid for Dangerous Time...and remember the locations well. The video becomes a snapshot of that moment in time. I always laugh a little when Stephen's head just slowly pops up into the frame from below when his vocals kick in.
That vid is so canadian ,when the street hockey players scream car, wow, that would of been me and my pals playing street hockey with a tennis ball and 2 rocks at the curb for a goal net back in the early 70's
BNL forcing Steven out of the band is like changing the recipe of bread by removing yeast. As such the Barenaked Ladies flopped and did not rise from that point on.
The bass on this record is so incredible. The solo at the end is pure magic.
jim is insanely talented...

Wow , cool story! Thank you for sharing this gift of words:)
What a song. Just a gem. Pulls you in so smoothly , and doesn’t let you go, ever. Thank you Steven Page.

I agree.
I really miss him too. It's even more apparent with the current band replacing Steven on some iconic BNL songs with their new Persuasions project. Old Apartment and Some Fantstic? why mess with that perfection?? I just don't get it!
Ed said that Brian Wilson is the hardest song for him to do because it was a full Page song and not a Page/Robertson song.
Wish he and the BNLs hadn’t parted ways. They’re a better band with him in it. Great and unique singing voice.
I met Steven once in NYC, he was so nice! I miss him with BNL but will still listen to whatever music he decides to do.
His post BNL solo albums are fantastic! Page One is untouchable!

agreed. seeing them live its clear they are a whole band and not just the two front men but without page its not nearly as satisfying.
It's like "Roger Waters presents Pink Floyd" or Rush without Neil, The Hip without Gord, "Sublime with Rome"
Better than nothing, perhaps.
But not necessarily...

you are the best steven......
I still have the Yellow tape.. Bought at Sam's in Halifax.
My favourite song ever!

Last month I drove three hours one way to see him play a 2 1/2 hour show. Totally worth it.

really cool stuff love these guys
I’d like to make a request for ..Old Apartment
Great stuff
I really hope Steve enjoyed all that success...way back then.
Cool stuff
They’re not BNL without him..
Wish that I still had that little yellow cassette tape myself now lol
I played the hell out of that yellow tape.
If i had to pick one of their songs.....this is it by far the best piece of song writing
Not really a fan but i dig this
4 track in my parent's basement...I can relate!
Page is up there with Cummings as one of the greatest Canadian singers ever.
What was that band who couldn't get across the border and why?. I kept waiting to hear if Brian heard it and what he thought about it
Brian loved it and has performed it live
if you had to pick one: old apt or Brian Wilson?
BNL forcing Steven out of the band is like changing the recipe of bread by removing yeast. As such the Barenaked Ladies flopped and did not rise from that point on.
I didn’t know they did. Big mistake
Sneak Dee's rules eh
I'd rather have heard him talk about the writing and recording of Brian Wilson thany hear him yattter on about The Yellow Tape.
Not formally. He is BNL.
And the full circle:

Steven needs to get over his shit and just re-join the band
Frank Zappa was Independent ....
Not a huge fan… but the BNL without this dude is pointless. Call it Ed Robinson Band or something . Stranger than Supertramp without Roger Hodgson
