Best teacher on the YT. A real MacGyver type guy, plus very likable and not full of himself.

Wow! Thank you very much for this video!!! 😀 We have an MSR Whisperlite from 1994! It hasn’t seen much use, but pretty old. ;) No shaker needle on this jet and fuel line was clogged. I watched two other MSR videos on maintenance, read the instructions and bought a new pump from MSR and a Maintenence kit. I spent at least 2 hours trying to get it running right and even called MSR warranty dept. None of it did the trick, until watching and following your video! The MSR tech did say it sounded like a fuel line issue and to spray WD-40 in the line and clean it out with the cable. I used AeroKroil which is a HD solvent used for loosening up rusted auto fasteners, gun cleaning, etc. I let that sit in the line for over an hour and then used pliers to grab hold of the cable and repeatedly scrub the line. Worked like a charm…nice blue flame now! 🔥 🔥 Thanks again!

Thanks for your help. I realized I had to be a bit more aggressive in order to remove the inner cables in both my Simmerlite and Whisperlite stoves. That and a bit of WD40 :)

Nice, and very simple too, Good to know its not that hard to clean it up, I have one as well but its hardly used (got it as a gift and have so many other stoves lol) so now I know how to clean it

thank you for stopping by it's always good seeing you! The only time that this procedure is needed as if you've ran some really dirty fuel and it usually takes quite a while to do that to stove to get it to this point where it needs this... I hope you have a beautiful day!

I had a thought about cleaning out the gunk in the tube. I have great success with cleaning carburetors and stuff with boiling vinegar. It works amazing. Pouring it in the tube would work without having to snake it with the wire.

Thanks again for taking the time for us sir. What's that tip you have on the whisperlite fuel line, it looks a little like the black isobutane one the universal comes with, but you're switching back and forth between liquid and gas without changing it. Is that because of that black attachment on the fuel line or because of that Primus pump top you're using?

Ever wanted to try a primus fuel line connected to the whisperlite. If U test ut, make a video! Would be awesome. The whisperlite is very god for in-the-innertent heating i the arctic region, but not AS powerfull as the primus gravity which i've been using for 10 years... Give a heads up

I’m pretty sure this is exactly the procedure for the older style Primus multifuel and varifuel models. The braided cable is only in the generator and not the hose on those models. It’s how Primus gets away with such a long slender hose. Anyway, great video!

The problem I’ve been having with my MSR stove. It’s starting to smell like burning rubber. I’m thinking that maybe the heat was going back up into the rubber hose and heating that up what is your thought on this?

Utterly outstanding work sir! Just chocked full of needed and usefull info. Its left me with a fairly technical question though. After you had cleaned the line and restored function, you ran it with what I am assuming is white gas and I noticed a "chugging" effect. When you used the stove with the Primus canister there was no "chugging". Do all liquid fuel stoves have this chugging in use or was it just no hot enough/ hadn't primed enough to prevent the chugging effect on the flame? I ask as I am a college student and I am considering the MSR whisper light universal stove, or just sticking with something like the Vega satellite canister only stove. I want to camp as well as use it for disaster preparation so I am torn between multiple fuels or canister ease-of-use. Canister fuels are really smooth operating but liquid fuels like gasoline or kerosene are a lot more common to find. You are the best stove reviewer on RUclips and you are more valuable than gold. Thank you so very much for everything you do sir!!

Hello there! Thank you for this video! Very instructive :) I have a problem though. My MSR Whisperlite International runs terribly sluggishly, it takes 30 minutes to boil a pint of water. I tried to perform the procedure shown in the video but I just cannot remove the cable by any means (4:50 in the video). It does not seem stuck, it moves back and forth like 5-10 milimeters without any difficultly. After that I hear a click (not a "crunching" sound like it's audible in the video when the dirty cable starts pulling free but an actual click!) and the cable stops. The fuel line bends while I try to pull the cable further, it bends until it's U-shaped bu the cable just does not move even a milimeter more. I tried spraying WD-40 inside the fuel line, from both ends even, waited a few hours for it to penetrate. Still nothing.
To me it seems like my cable is somehow purposefully attached inside the generator loop. It's against the specs of this stove but this is how it FEELS. Do you have any ideas what more can I do to remove this cable and clean the fuel line?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can make. Regards from Poland :)

Hello, I bought this msr wisperlite international, and it's literally new, I tried it once, but their is a failure in pressurizing the bottle, the rubber cap inside the pump arm kept on snapping, while pumping, couldn't create pressure at all. Any suggestions why this happening ? Thanks .

That is neat..since alcohol doesn't put out as many BTU of heat,You could have a better success at simmering with it...
The only thing I would worry about is,The alcohol having a reaction with that aluminum cylinder, especially with a Sigg fuel cylinder.
They made theirs out of two different metals,If you don't believe me Check around the threaded area of the cylinder.. MSR makes theirs out of one solid piece of aluminum...With the normal fuels used in hiking, camping or other outdoor activities,They are all petroleum based,So,They coat metals and don't normally react with them,But, Alcohol reacts with metal and rubber ....
