- In honor of disco queen Donna Summer, who passed Wednesday after a battle with cancer, "Extra" found footage of Terri Seymour's exclusive 2008 interview with the "Hot Stuff" singer.

She truly is one of those artists who’s in a lane of her own. There’s been several attempt to replicate Aretha, Streisand, Madonna, Whitney, Mariah but Donna Summer no one can even try. Such a singular trajectory and talent. That she died of lung cancer is just the ultimate irony of life.
So true. Not even well-known singers can do it. That tribute they did for Donna with Adam Lambert and Jennifer Hudson: nope!

She had a beautiful personality, was witty and very intelligent. No one had ever had anything bad to say about her.

I too believed this rumour at one point but after doing A LOT of research into it, I cannot find any proof whatsoever that she said anything against homosexuals.
1. Just because she ‘found God’ doesn’t automatically make her homophobic. Many singers are religious but are not homophobic. Beyoncé, Whitney, Jennifer Hudson ect all are religious people and thank God whenever they win an award, but they have no hate towards gays or receive backlash because they’re religious.
2. Donna Summer and Elton John we’re good friends, there is proof they were good friends. Why would Donna Summer want to be friends with Elton John is she were homophobic? Why would she donate and perform at his charity concerts for AIDS if she were homophobic?
And more importantly, with Elton being well… Elton John, a proudly gay man, if he knew Donna Summer was homophobic why would he even be good friends with her considering he has no hesitation in speaking his mind, especially about Madonna or anyone else he dislikes.
3. There is absolutely NO evidence that Donna Summer said anything homophobic, all I found are comments like “my father’s brother’s girlfriend’s gay brother was at that concert”.Yet EVERYONE who knew Donna Summer personally (and she was a very private person) all state she was not the sort of person to think like that.
4. I believe those rumours were spread by a certain Record Producer (while Donna Summer was on his label) but she refused to follow his orders and wanted out. He wanted her to continue her Disco songs but as disco was being hated in the early 80’s Donna wanted to go back to Rock music. And he himself was coming to terms with his sexuality, and is what we in the gay world would call ‘A little bitchy Queen’. I won’t mention his name but if you’re still reading this far then you can go and search him.
5. I also believe those homophobic statements were made by a different Disco Star…. Who still has the same views on homosexuality today and her remarks are actually documented in interviews.
6. Donna Summer sued a newspaper/Magazine for printing those rumours as facts and the matter was settled out of court, why? Because why would a newspaper /magazine want to admit to their lies?
Donna Summer worked with gays, parties with gays, had close friendships with gays and supported gay charities. Yes she was a religious person but she’s not one of those bible bashing folk that try and cram it down your throat and judge, she was Loving and wanted to spread love. What people do in their private lives was none of her business and that did not matter to her, what she wanted was spreading love in their lives.
So please, I’ve done the research for you, STOP spreading hate speech and lies about such a kind and loving person.
@@747qwert Personally I don’t believe having gay friends doesn’t make you homophobic, but you do have good points. After research, I believe there isn’t enough information to go off of (and that is somewhat respectable as public figures deserve their privacy). I try not to think too much of celebrities, but it is quite easy to judge them negatively.
Oh how she praises Rihanna and Beyonce, so kind. But there would be no Rihanna, Beyonce, Madonna or Gaga without her. She is the Original.
Heard her do a British accent a few times in interviews: makes me smile each time.

What a talented beautiful person and soul Donna was. How sad it’s been that we lost her too soon. Donna you are surely missed and it’s comforting to know you are an Angel watching over us now.

I agree that one I know I remember her singing Hot Stuff, bad girls, I am very mad and hurt why? I don't want her done it not right because I never know she have cancer but I look at internet she have bad lungs from dust 9/11 something like that. I can't believe it so I don't like 1970's and 1980's done itself and keep her alive like classic sings.

Hard to believe Donna is gone! I think of her every day. I loved her so much. I grew up to her music and went to every concert when she was in NYC from the 70's to 2008. It's so unfair she's not here with us and give her music and beautiful voice anymore.

Oh , yes , she is indeed!!
Gloria Gaynor was actually more like the "pre-queen of disco". Before there was "I Will Survive" (her biggest hit and trademark song) there was "Honey Bee" and "Never Can Say Goodbye", etc. I love Gloria Gaynor; she was certainly a disco era star. However, I was part of the dance club scene for years and never heard anyone refer to anyone but Donna Summer as the "queen of disco".
