My grandma saw Elvis at least 20 or so times around 1969-77. She went to Vegas 3 times to see him. Once in 69,70, and then another in 72. Every year since he came back she saw him 3 times or so. She was a super fan and so was my great grandma who was around 30 when he became a sensation and she used to follow him with a crowd after he was finished in the 50s and 70s.
I’m so jealous… very lucky ladies.

Ray, you are so observant. That was indeed a note that had been passed to him at some point and that happened a lot. I have seen some reactors ask, what did he forget the lyrics? Lol. It also shows how comfortable he is that he reads it and then he actually starts singing the next verse and in mid phrase he leans over and hands the note back to a band member.
And you're totally right about him getting it wrong and then telling the band, No, you got it right, you're right on. He actually got so caught up in the motion and in Ronnie Tutt just going off on the drums that he got off by half a bar, and so he signaled the band to come back in two beats early.
As a musician, it's easier than you think to do that when you really get caught up in something. But the band actually overrode him in this case because they are so good and they knew what to do. And he immediately recognized what happened and acknowledged it. I just love that about him and how tight they all were as a band.
Also, there is some context for when he deep-throated the mic for a second and it made that blip of feedback. Not only was it actually funny and goofy and it did get an audience response, it served another purpose. You know how the band was often pranking each other? Like throwing water on each other, or startling each other? When he does that, this is for the sound guy.
The sound guy is somewhere back in a booth or at a console with headphones on, and so when Elvis sticks the mic and his mouth for a second, it causes a very brief but sharp blip of feedback, you can bet it's startling in the headphones. So at once it was his way of including the sound man in messing around with each other in the band during live performances, but it also served to catch his attention and make sure he was absolutely on top of things if Elvis thought he needed a little prodding.

I come here every day, sometimes multiple times to watch this reaction to Elvis. I must say my life is much happier now I've found an Elvis community to sit with and watch lol. I used to hide my love of Elvis and forgot his talent for a long time in my 20s and 30s, now I'm closer to 50 I've seen the light. Not a religious person but this latest deep delve into his 70s material and performances has led me to the light. I feel like I've finally found Jesus. Elvis kills it every time. We need more footage of him doing his thing. Literally nobody else performs like him.

There's just a speaking part from this film- it was Elvis's first documentary called "That's The Way It Is", by the way- where Elvis says to the audience, "Those of you who has never seen me before will think I am totally insane."
But see you get it, Ray. And more importantly, you get Elvis.
His daughter said during an interview that her father never changed, that he was the same on and off the stage.
And she should know since Elvis took her on tour with him and she did see her father perform live many times.
The father- daughter bond is special. As a daughter who was close to her Dad and had that bond, I can say that while I miss my Dad every day, I will always be thankful for the time I had with him.

As Ray said during his latest Upchuch reactions (I never comment on those but I do watch them, I know nothing really about Upchurch and I am not a hip- hop head/ expert) we as human beings all go through sh*t and it s*cks and just because one person went through this and you went through that, neither experience with life stuff diminishes the other. That's not verbatim but it's close enough to what he said.
Anyway, I'm open with my experiences when it comes to grief & getting through it because it is an experience we all go through.
Elvis's Gospel got me through a deeply personal experience also and I'm grateful that Elvis helped through that whole thing.
This life is a journey & everyone's journey is different.

What a song and what a performance. Elvis Presley started his journey in 1956 actually and it ended in 1977. He gave us so much on stage and in the studio recording songs. Can you imagine how much more material he would’ve gave us that came out after he passed away??? He could take a song going to the studio with his band and back up vocals and orchestra and just smoke it!!!
