  • I went along to Duxford for the September air show simply for somewhere to go on my motorbike. The event was sold out so I went to one of the many very popular unofficial viewing areas in fields on the other side of the M11. The crops had been harvested and nobody seemed bothered about the hundreds of people gathered there.
It was amazing - directly opposite the end of the runway and giving a better view than many will have had inside the event, with planes and helicopters turning sharply over the field for their return runs. A couple of the Red Arrows' manoeuvres actually scared me a bit and you can see their smoke trails drift down into the field. Awesome.
I was tempted to try the video function on my new LG G3 phone but wasn't expecting too much. The sky was beautiful with varied cloud, blue sky and direct sunshine. I expected the extremes of exposure to be way too much for a phone to cope with.
However, I was really surprised and after putting my favourite clips together I ended up with something I think is worth sharing. The sky that I thought would thwart the phone camera looks great.
The strange freeze-frame effect before each cut is something to do with the G3's unusual 29.45fps frame rate, I think. If somebody knows better, please comment. I'd like to understand it myself.

Hi there I love this,it is better than being in the show, I went last year. The dramatic sky and light and the smoke effects really makes this film special. I can understand the low passes would be a little unnerving! What a good location, thanks for sharing, Neil.

Thanks Neil. I really had a great day. I would have paid to go into the event if it hadn't been full but I would have certainly missed out on some of the action. Just wish I'd taken a proper camera now but it was a day off and I was on my motorbike. I love your Lancaster and Spitfires over the corn field.
