They are not that unreliable, honestly.
I’ve spent around 2k in the 3-4 months of having mine
@@hihibud5944 If you sneeze at spending 2k, don't buy a FFRR lol.
Look after them, do the maintenance and like all things it keeps the issues at bay

I have had a two door still have it i have had a 4 door classic still have it andnow an L322 not one of these cars has ever let me down or cost a fortune to repair but I always always keep on top of things
there is not a car on the planet that gives you what this car does for the second hand price in my humble opinion !!
If a vehicle is very well maintained it will serve the owner that's what I believe in..
Great review, Ben. We have a 2008 HSE V8 with 175,000 miles. The paint and interior still looks great. We did go through a phase at 150K with a few big ticket repairs, but she’s back to her old reliable self now. We just handed her down to our youngest son who just started driving and he is so proud of it. I replaced it with a 2019 Supercharged V8.
People often ask me how I like my Range Rover. I tell them all to never get one. They ask why? Are they that bad. My answer is always no. They are so great that once you own one, you’ll always have to have one.
Keep up the great work, my friend. We all get so very much from your videos.
Thanks, glad you enjoy the videos and I agree, once you have a RR you can't go to anything else, nothing feels quite like it.
Great review. I have a USA-spec 2007 L322 Supercharged. It’s been a fantastic vehicle, and just rolled over 330,000 miles. Original engine & transmission, and it really hasn’t needed much. It helps that it’s super dry here so no rust. Cheers!
That’s great to read. Just picked up a 2012 SC. Would love to get 330k miles.
I’ve owned my L322 since 2002 , bought new , 20 years of ownership 220k all done by me and I love it now as much as the day I bought it , I service it twice a year change the gearbox oil once a year as I’m on my second gearbox, when things go wrong I have a good man who fixes things for me , but truthfully it doesn’t really give me problems, I drive it to Spain 🇪🇸 every year 1500 miles each way and have done for the last 15 years . Your video is spot on though . I will never sell it as I love it so much
Which engine?
Hi Ben you are a great inspiration for alot of people being disabled and having the attitude you have to mend your own car. Love the videos and your view's on the l322.
Great video Ben, not sure if you remember but I was the guy on your live feed who asked about Range Rover or ML to buy, well I bought a TDV8 and love it, different class, keep the videos coming, looking forward to live chat.
Should be doing a live stream very soon.
We have had 5 of these Range Rovers in the company - what you have said is spot on in every detail - even little things like the lower tail gate strut cables rust - well done Fella a good all round review.
One last thing - Range Rover UK should never say gear boxes are sealed for life !
Think you had this spot on all the way through
Very cool with the beret 🧢 ! Sunny 😎 sky ! I have two (4.4 and 4.2 ) L322 , both reliable ! Unique driving experience !!
Just got a cheap tdv8 3.6 2006 for 4.5k. Had it 2 weeks and absolutely love it. Its in great condition apart form a a bit of rust low down in rear arches but hey I practically stole it. The fact that the v8 engine is ford derived (a nugget of information I was desperate to know btw) fills me with confidence. Who else does a v8 better than ford lol. I have bought a blanking kit for the egr valves which im going to fit this weekend. Bit risky I know but its so cheap I'm not afraid to take the plunge and not about to buy the 500 odd quid diagnostic/remap tool thing that you suggested in your vid. This channel is fantastic you have replaced hubnut for me lol..keep up the good work.
Yes the gap iid tool is quite expensive. Hopefully testing a dirt cheap diagnostic tool very soon. EGR blanking kit is fairly easy to fit and in most cases doesn’t throw an engine fault code.
@@Bensgarage Cheers..very much looking forward to you testing cheaper diagnostic tool. I watched Nut job do his 3.6 tdv8 egr blanking kit video and he hasn't had any fault codes apparently, my car has no history of any egr work but runs well with no misfires etc so jumping in quick seeing as its done 133k. Jelous of your little bit of paradise that you have over in France you are living a very nice life well done sir.
I have owned Toyota Landcruisers for over 30 years (first a 4.2 turbo diesel and now a 4.7 V8 petrol with over 200,000 miles on it now) and they have been utterly reliable as well as being luxurious and fully-loaded with all the usual creature comforts. Will find it difficult to justify changing to a Rangerover.
I agree with the statement, I worked as a technician at Toyota for a while and drove most model Landcruisers, very reliable, but they just don't have the feel of a Range Rover.
In the case of JLR products, any list of possible problems is much shorter if you list what go wrong, break down, corrode away, fail to work etc. etc. Beautiful cars which won't break down - as long as you don't drive them! If you do drive them something is almost guaranteed to break down on a regular basis.
I bought a TD6 just before Christmas partly because you said that they’re good in your older videos. Now you’ve got a TDV8 you say you wouldn’t touch a TD6!
To be fair, my TD6 has been pretty well behaved. At 162k on the clock, chances are that many of the common issues have been dealt with.
Only things I’ve done so far is a gearbox service and replace the cabin blower resistor.
I’m too stubborn to pay for the highest band road tax anyway, so my Range Rover was always going to be pre-2006 whatever I bought!
I’m still happy with our TD6, but there are some ropey ones out there. Times change I guess, and now that TDV8’s are getting cheaper it might be a better buy. Unless like you, you can find a good one that has been looked after.
2008 l322 hse it’s started popping out of drive but ok in sport mode
Can you do a video on why and how to fix it
I think it’s to do with linkages somewhere
Just bought a cheap 05 range rover vouge l322 tried fixing all the faults shockingly bad cars can't be bothered to try and fix it so will sell it ASAP
These cars still amazing. Last year I finally could buy a RR Sport tdv6 from 2008. Yes with the 2.7 liter "nightmare" engine.
I changed EGR valves, oil, filters, timing belt, and some little things. Everybody told me, this car will be a disaster. I use it more than a year ago. It covered 270.000 kms (168.000 miles). In my country there is a lot with around 300.000 miles.
I did 10.000 miles since I bought the car, I did not spend a penny except than need for oil replacement.
The car is a 2.5 tonns of sensitive, fine, luxury, awesome tank. The flying start, the dragrace is same crazy movement, like a Ferrari in the mud. The Range Rover can accelerate as well like a rocket (especially the V8) and the Ferrari can go in the mud a little bit.
If the driver use his brain, even a 2.7 can be a good "everyday" car. I go to the job, I go to drive for a trip at holidays and enyoj the ride. Yes my car is 13th years old, yes I could by a 8 years old Ford Focus instead of this, but why should I do that? :D
Thanks for this very informative video, I am very optimist about my car for the next 10 or 20.000 miles. Even a cheap "anycar" need EGR valves, timing belt, oil, filter and many more. We have only one life. Many of us can not buy a new R. Rover. But a cosy sofa is a cosy sofa after a some of parties as well. Oh and a very important information: In my country (Hungary) the yearly insurance is less than 220 pound. :)
Ben much love to u from one of your viewers from Jamaica Jamaica love your program u have a very huge heart be strong keep doing yr thing
Wheel well water = sometimes it’s tailgate rubber seal, sometimes upper tailgate hinges too
- what goes right on a Range Rover... LoL ... mine has turned me into a mechanic 👍🏼
Yeah but the parts are cheap and I bet it has never left you anywhere. No matter what the problem it has always got me home no matter how far into the woods we go
Ah yes but you need to have been on the spanner's before you buy one lol
Well done Ben, your determination to keep the RR on the road is great, sealed for life is a service departments sales line, they know they will go south at some point. As long as you treat as a 4x4 and not a Ford Focus, everything is cool.
Great job ben as a young tdv8 owner from Ireland you give me great inspiration in caring and looking after my 3.6 simply awesome vehicles and nothing else will do keep up the great work 😎
Awesome one Ben. I have a 230k 2010 TDV6 thats been thoroughly serviced with auto sump plate correction at 50k and proper flush plus transfer and diffs likewise on the intervals. Lately I’ve been wondering should I change to newer but once you’ve had one its to let it go. New way too expensive here in ‘Straaya’ so setting aside a relatively large but cheap in comparison annual / ugly surprise budget and aiming at 500ks. The beauty is I get to drive it. Great non-bs channel and thanks for your efforts.
Should read 280ks plus hard to let go - my eyes 🙄
Hey Ben.The thing that is the scariest for me are the electronics. I loved the L322s that I have tried out and I'm sure I'll find the right one. The problem that I have is the timing to get over to the dealer for a test drive. I've missed out on a couple that were already sold just within a week.
Yes there are lots of electrics, but with a good diagnostic and a comprehensive manual it could be fairly straight forward. You will get one eventually, don't give up.
Recently bought a 3.6tdv8 and was interested in a remap for better fuel economy. Can you suggest a good place for a remap?
A lot depends on where you are, and how far you want to travel.

Hi Ben I have air suspension inactive but the car stays perfectly on middle stage and it doesn’t go down or up.The switch for air suspension lights red in the middle and I don’t know why? Please help me.Also if I leave it like this I will have any problem with the car, Thank you 🙏
Have you plugged a diagnostic tool in? That’s the only way to find out what is wrong, unless there is something really obvious.
Thanks for this, well summed up. I own a 2002 L322 TD6 (yikes!) which I’ve had for 12 years. I bought it for 13,000 Euros in Latvia with 230,000km on the clock no service history (double yikes!) It’s my “Europe” car so only averages 4000 miles a year, but predictably during the first few years of ownership I was paying for the legacy of wear & tear from its previous life. 12 years on, having replaced the gearbox, front air suspension, turbocharger, fuel pump, injector, brake pipe, wiper motor, handbrake assembly, discs all round, ABS Modulator and sunder other items, and also some minor bodywork, to the tune of around 16,000 Euros over that 12 year period, for the last 3 or 4 years it has begun to behave more like a car that only does 4000 miles a year. It gets serviced by Land Rover and gets a full underbody steam clean & anti rust treatment each year. ❤Based on personal experience, my advice to anyone buying one, regardless of which year or version:
1. Full service history
2. £3000 maintained as a float for unexpected repairs
3. Source a reputable independent garage which knows Range Rovers
4. Deal with issues immediately even if the car still runs ok
5. Anti rust treatment
6. A spare runabout, access to partners’ car or other form of transport (don’t rely on this as your sole means of essential transport)
7. Full breakdown cover with vehicle recovery
If following these points seems worth it for you to enjoy this awesome vehicle (it certainly is for me) then you’ve made the right choice 👍
Great job Ben its my first time on your channel n just B4 the end I was compelled to subscribe you explain everything in a language we can understand n appreciate thanks for a great channel mate
Always worth buying a GAP diagnostic programming tool
Good video mate well done.
Emanuelle on line Ben - I'm sold already haha. Good video. Glad to see a bit of sun where you are
Wonder what’s on your mind!
Yea, I just lost ALL sound and no navigation screen. Whats fried now?
Doesn't sound good, a good diagnostic tool might pin point a problem. Will be interested to see what you find, as I have no idea.
Very helpful Ben!
Thank you
Really enjoying these videos and there mega useful as I'm this 🤏 close to buying an 07 RR. I just need to take the plunge
I've seen a "rule of thumb"..don't touch a TDV6 because of the crankshaft design issue..go for a TDV8 then go from there...not sure how true that is..
I've heard the same, TD6(BMW) was a solid motor just very under powered. TDV6 as fitted to the RR sport and Disco's have had problems with the crank etc. So a good TDV8 would always be my recommendation, even these have their problems if not looked after, servicing is the key.
Great review Ben..
Top video. Really helpful and great presenting by Ben.
People just hatin one of the best automotive car in industry.
Range Rover is a technical masterpiece having they're own problems like all manufactures.
They are unique in terms of design features and capabilities while still combining supreme confort.
They are not cheap to maintain, require premium fuel oil tires parts.
Main problem is when service intervals or problems have been outlooked and then everything comes in cascade.
For example egr failing leads to turbo end.
Suspension components are beafed up and it's good to change everything in pair.
Same for the tires having a good brand asures you have the full driveability.
Keeping the body from rust especially rear arch which are metal instead of aluminium.
Great video for I’m looking for a Range Rover for the winter time. There very affordable now.
I want to buy land Range Rover supercharger 2012, please I want to know the maintenance of it and also the minor problems it normally has .
Recognised most of the faults, per my 2011 L322. The rear arches are coming up for their second refresh
The better question Would be “” What doesn’t go wrong on a Range Rover “”. I should know! I’ve been “ Stung “ several times Never learning my lesson, Hoping I was just
Unlucky. The last one I had needed well over £4000 spent on it just to get it through an MOT . It had 71 faults … 40 of them mechanical. The rest electrical ….
It seems some people are just unlucky. I had more problems with my old Audi than I have had with my RR
Seiko 5 with a Jimmy Bond strap? nice.
How similar is that tdv8 to the tdv6....? I’ve seen feck all tdv8’s at work mabey only 1/2 dozen in the past year since moving to JLR job !
3.0 Lion engine TDV6 is prone to snapped crankshaft which is rare on the TDV8. I can only think there is an oil/lubrication problem in the TDV6 causing a heat issue on one or more cylinders.
Tom Betts One of the guys in work started taking a tdv6 out of a disco 5 there last Friday that was starting to do a bit of clack clack clack. I personally haven’t had the pleasure of changing one yet but I’m almost getting sick of changing 2.0 shitgeniums only after 13 months at Jlr ...!
@@billytremoloband7456 do you work at JLR or at a dealership? I used to work at JLR.
Tom Betts Dealer ship so fun and games every day.....! To be fair there training is top notch and you learn a bucket load of info that helps working on almost any brand!
Hi Ben, I am a new Range Rover owner, now I have just retired and time on my hands I decided to buy what I've always wanted. So I bought a lovely 2011 Range Rover Sport with a 3.0 V6 and it is superb, although it has a rather high milage 148,000 but I love it and I really enjoy watching your videos and getting tips. Thanks. Enjoyed the airport run video...
Glad you are enjoying the videos. They are a great car, just keep them maintained and they will always do what you want them to.
Ben are they as troublesome as the discovery /3/4 I’m sure you know what goes wrong just like to know if the bigger jeep has bigger of the problems 👍👍👍
Depends who you ask, when it comes to reliability. Some say they are not to be trusted, then there are others that say they are great. Ours has been spot on, and you only hear the horror stories online, people that have had no problems don’t tend to say much.
@@Bensgarage have my discovery since September of last year again Great going just see gunge in the heather tank could have a oil coolant problem
The joys of Land Rover 👍👍
Could you kindly add links for the parts
Which parts?
@@Bensgarage parts that you’ve replaced like the silicone hoses etc
This is where I got the hoses from bellautoservices.co.uk/store/range-rover-l322-3-6l-tdv8-top-intercooler-hoses-black-5-ply/
Right, for starters,
Good information. Intercooler hoses. I checked mine 2007 3.6tdv8 and one had a split. A big one, 50mm long. undernieth, i didnt see it. Anyway easy fix no more smoke fuel consumption down 50%. EGR valves. Didnt do that myself. Under load the alarm across readable screen and dreaded ding sound. Engine system fault. The car goes limp mode. To resolve, Shut down, start car to clear. it wont last long.
So i had new range rover EGR valves replaced. 980 quid. Time id done the messing about and bus fare bag of sand.
Now the car is like driving a bucket of cream.
I now have one side of a rocker cover leaking oil. Not a great deal, about a litre every three months. but its the mess on the floor. I have been told by my mechanic, who is in his 50s like me, a friend since childhood, that its a game changer. as you cant get the cover off with the shell on?
He said if im going to keep it and sort it out i will need to think about the twin turbos and the injectors when the lids off. so im looking at a few k for an irritating oil leak. Any thoughts.
I thought the bodies only had to be removed on the sport, I could be wrong. But I seem to remember seeing somewhere that on the L322 you could do most jobs with the body still on.
@@Bensgarage
Im no mechanic. But i am a mechanical engineer? The cover is aluminium and flat and apparently under some pressure. Thats why i want to get it done. Its long and goes under the bulk head. Ive had a look. To me it looks doable but i dont know whats under it, space wise.
@@stephenrimmington5042 I’ve just had a look at the workshop manual, but it just gives a description of removing and replacing with torque settings etc, I assume from the pictures that they did it with the engine out.
When are we all coming in L322 convoy to see you in France?
I suppose after this Covid thing has done one. We are now locked down again for four weeks, can see it being an ongoing thing.
Thanks for this video
Can you do a video on what does NOT go wrong on an L322?
Might be a short video! On a serious note, a well looked after (serviced/maintained) shouldn't have too many problems, they mostly arise through neglect.
I'm an Englishman who has been driving Land Rovers products for over twenty years and can honestly say there is no place more comfortable to be.... ....whilst waiting for a tow truck!"
Same here, and luckily I've only had to wait for a tow truck once, that was the P38 that got a bit hot.
I would love to buy one, but in Portugal they are still very expensive to buy😢
They are fairly expensive here in France too.
Hey Ben, have you heard anything from the 5.0 Jag engine?
Great Videos, keep it coming
Thanks.
Not had much experience with the 5.0. Have heard somewhere that timing chains might be an issue.
Love your work thanks for your advice.
A very good and informative video.......
I woudn't touch anything with accident history, rust or a v8. Simple td6 and tune maybe a manual swap
The biggest nightmare on Range Rovers is the electronics. Water is your biggest enemy
This is my take on owning a Land/Range Rover. Don’t buy one if you’re not a mechanic, DIYer or you have a shit load of money to pay someone else to maintain it for you.
I will say that the diagnostic software is essential for the newer Range Rovers
As is AA Membership
Thanks for that Ben. It's a very useful video to watch. I'm looking to buy a 2006 on Petrol V8 , (no point in having a diesel as I live in Outer London and diesel is a very dirty word here with the current mayor, results of election not come out yet) and I don't suppose it will be any better under whoever wins this time. I will be looking to put the car on LPG as I'm a fan of it and had it on my last two Discos. It would be nice to find one recently fitted with a new system, but if I can't find what I want I will go for a new system.
I've never liked LPG myself, but I know a lot of people seem to get on ok with it.
That manual looks very like topix ....!
These Range Rovers might take you somewhere and refuse to come back home, for this reason I'm out ! 😕
Wow nice in body shape vogue...

The husband and wife team work on the car themselves and wow...it seems that Land Rovers will bankrupt you 1 day before they make you consider suicide. Why oh why can they look and drive like a a Land Rover but last like a Toyota Hilux or Amazon?
