    Just bought 2 (i3+) vacuums for my birthday gifts to myself, and love them! Mine came with little towers to create your own keep out zones. Haven’t tried those yet, but the vacuum itself did a very good job. We have 2 dogs, 3 cats, kids that consistently visit, so our floors gave it a lot to work with. I would give a solid A-. Impressed!

    I just recently got the i3 as a “luxury gift” to myself & can honestly say I’m soooooo happy with this purchase!! If you’re like me, besides doing the dishes, vacuuming is up there as my least favorite chore. I’m so relieved it got a good review after watching your video ☺️ i don’t really need the bells and whistles of a top camera. Also, don’t have to worry about cleaning the inside of the machine as much. Also, with the app, it’s times to automatically vacuums while im still in bed, waking up!!

For some reason, mine doesn't quite get all of it up on our tile floor. That may be something you want to test with. Love your videos. Cheers.

  • @Whit23ney
    @Whit23ney 3 года назад +5

    I got mine recently on Black Friday and I couldn’t be happier. It has a bit of trouble right next to the front door because of the rug (it’s a rugable rug with the Velcro bottom and washable top) so it struggles to reach the area between the rug and doorframe, but other than that, it’s been pretty flawless. I was surprised to see the attention it took to the dining room, taking so much effort to get through and around all of the chair legs. Very little space was missed. All and all, very impressed with it this far.

    "14 inch... no robot vacuum can handle hair that long" thank you so much for finally doing this! Please keep it up. It seems like there must be a significant portion of households with somebody with long hair. And even if all robot vacuums handle it badly, I'd still like to know which does best.
    This finally confirms that self emptying vacuums so far are pointless for me, since I have to detangle them every time I empty the bin anyway. At least my roomba e6 is far less work than my 655 was, due to the new roller design. And of course they're both far better than manually vacuuming.

    Mind that keep out zones are a must Most of the time. It’s not just about not wanting to clean a particular area, it’s because often robots get stuck at the same spots until you go there and get them out, and this features allows avoiding that problem.

    Seems like one of the best options for most people. As long as you don't require app control / no go zones, then, it's great. I have an older Neato D80. Still works great. Not going to replace it. It has the lidar or laser navigation; but, no app control, nothing. Just push a button. That's how I prefer to use these. I like to do a quick check of my home when I press the button. I do keep it robot safe, but, you never know if you left something out. If my Neato ever dies, this i3 may be the best option. I bet in a year or two it will be low cost and still amazing.

    • @the-dbp

      You can buy a $50 accessory to make "virtual barriers" and walls, however software no go zones are neater imo.

    • @earthling1984

      @@the-dbp They are cool. But, I've used robot vacuums almost 20 years. Moved twice in this time. Each move I setup better for robot vacs. I have no need for no go lines or app control. Well, my neato uses magnetic straps, I do have a single strip stuck under my bed to block off the ac plug where I have some cords running behind the bed baseboard. So, it just blocks off like the top foot of the bed (like under where pillows would be). I guess that single spot I could use no go lines.

    I’ve had the i3 now for a few weeks and I’m very close to returning it. I have yet to have 1 vacuum session complete on its own. I was gone for the day and left it to clean. Within 1 minute it had gotten “stuck on a cliff”, aka my floor vent. I came home the next day to find it dead with 43 seconds of cleaning under its belt. People online say to cover the sensors with white paper or to take the thing apart and modify the sensors. Now I’m taping paper to a $400+ vacuum. Let’s see how this goes

    What are the best shop vacs for sucking dangerous dust like concrete etc.

    • @Dirty_Bear22
      @Dirty_Bear22 4 года назад +1

      hilti makes some very nice shop vacs and dust extractors. If you are dealing with hazardous dust from grinding, drilling, and sanding you would want a dust extractor. Shop vacs are designed for large debris, construction clean up, and non hazardous dust pickup. A dust extractor will excel at dust pickup, but aren’t designed for anything else. Shop vacs on the other hand can handle a larger variety of material, but are not suitable for large amounts of dust or hazardous dust. They are different tools, and many situations require both a shop vac and dust extractor.

    • @tarassu
      @tarassu 4 года назад

    I love my i3, it is my first robot vacuum and I appreciate vacuuming being off my chore list. I run it every weekday and the bin is always full. I see battery life being referred to as not important regarding the recharge and resume and I would argue that it does. My Roomba only has to vacuum about 600-1200 sq ft depending on what doors we close that day and it takes anywhere from 4-6+ hours with the charging time. It usually has to recharge 2-3 times. If you aren't home all day that wouldn't matter but I homeschool so we are almost always here and having the vacuum stop and go all day can get annoying. It was really annoying last year when we were virtual schooling and always had zooms to work around. I love your reviews, I'd love if you would do the Eufy G30 Edge- I'm considering it for my parents and would love one of your in depth reviews on it!

    The nice thing that Roomba's need is the ability to clean close to their base stations. They avoid them like the plague at least till it's time to dock. They don't clean around or very close to the station which is odd. I wonder if they can change that with a firmware/software update, just to allow the vacuum to get closer. Not edge cleaning close, but at least closer. That is my only gripe with my i7+ otherwise I love it, does a fantastic job every time. With 4 cats, it keeps the fur, and dust bunnies down to a minimum, furnace filters last A LOT longer, and you see a lot less dust and fur build up on the air returns. They really are great machines!

    I don’t have money to keep buying roombas LOL, I was literally torn between the i7 and the i3+. I originally bought a 675 and it constantly got stuck on my bar stools and in stupid places literally 3-5 times per run. I was debating buying those little $100 things that create no go zones to keep it away from specific areas but I was basically getting to a point where I might as well return the 675 and buy the i7 or i3+ based on cost of the 675 plus 2 sets of the $100 barrier things. I sat at Best Buy for a half hour debating the i3+ or i7, in the end I chose the i7 and it’s great ..I set up the keep out zones but I don’t even think I needed to do that because during the mapping process it did not get stuck once, the 675 struggled with my barstool and I bought the i7 to do a keep out zone in those areas but I don’t even have the keep put zones in that area and it still hasn’t gotten stuck there (amazing to me LOL).. I really want the auto empty but at the same time I don’t want my roomba to be stuck every time I turn it on ..I just can’t swing the $600 current price for the i7+ LOL ..I could wait a couple months and just buy the clean base I guess..you should incorporate some circle metal based stools to your test to see if they get hung up on it LOL

    No camera means the i3 can’t do clean zones or clean individual rooms. I didn’t realize it when I bought our i7+ but the ability to clean a specific room has become one of its most important features. I’d even say it’s vital now that we’re rarely out of the house for more than a few minutes a day. I’ve developed a routine of vacuuming rooms when we’re not using them. Or when one of the cats use the box just saying, “Alexa, vacuum the laundry room.” Will never consider a robovac without the ability.

Just wanted to mention that because it would always fill up the Roomba canister would be full on vacuum but stopped ejecting into the base. Best to let your Roomba run the whole house twice a week. The more you let it sit the battery runs lower. Keeping it running more often will keep your battery in shape. I have had mine for a year now.

    Great review, but I didn’t see anything about how noisy or quiet it is-we are all at home all the time so quiet is key, and how it does when it gets stuck under a couch (am I going to need to rescue it?)

    May I ask how you achieved the room 'painting' effects? Did you place a paper disc on top of the vac and merge all the frames? Or did you create a bunch of masks for the furniture + add a tracking point to the robot? Thanks!

    I have a small apartment, with hardwood and a carpet. No pets/kids.
    Currently, the T8+ is 449.99 at best buy, and the I3+ is 399.00 at Amazon.
    Appreciate your input. Thanks.

    Question: being that this model does not have the camera, if it were to encounter your pet's food or water bowl in its path, would it just barrel right on through, knocking food and water everywhere? Or is it smart enough to know to maneuver around?

      I haven't checked out the i1 at all, but just a quick glace at the iRobot site - the i3 looks like it is going to be "smarter." It looks like the i3 has dirt detect and the i1 doesn't? It is hard to tell without a datasheet but in general I would assume the i3 is going to work a bit smarter.

    If it doesn't have a top mounted camera, does it bump into things more like a "pinballing" basic Roomba? That's always seemed a big benefit of robovacs that use camera or LIDAR nav to me - they don't tend to bang into walls and furniture.

      No. The track sensor allows it to do row cleaning. So it won’t do random passes and can remember which room still is left to clean after recharge. It will still lightly touch but not ram into
