  • Bolt extraction of the aluminum bolts that hold the engine mount bracket to the engine. I was able to extract one by hand and one I had to drill out and extract with screw extraction set. This is on a 2006 BMW 330i MT.
This is a common problem on the N52 engine design - passenger side. Aluminum bolts shear inside of the engine block. Shouldn't be any rust since these are aluminum, so relatively easy to extract.

Thanks for the video! Very useful information. I basically did the same repair on my BMW 325xi 2006, except 4 out of the 4 bolts had to be Extracted and replaced.

You're a life saver, saved me from spending $700 at a shop to remove them and put new ones on

Good to see that engine and all the bolts indeed free of rust.
You deserve more views judging by the quality of your vids btw.

Good video my concern don't get to hung up on that 90degrees extra if it gets tight at less don't keep pushing. I've made that mistake get hung up on what a manual says rather then being sensible.

Hey man, really useful video. Do you happen to know the part number or have a link where I can buy new bolts? All 4 of mine have snapped and are stuck in the block, so this would be a great help. Cheers

Good work. Also, first try giving it a shot with a pencil eraser pushing FIRM on the pencil while turning. Same concept as your left handed drill bit, but the eraser end gets more surface area of the bolt than the drill bit does and the grips well. I was able to back 2 of them out that way on my 328xi.

What a great comment, Eddie! I love that idea with the pencil eraser, I'm storing that in my mental toolbox, thank you!

I’m so happy to know there is a solution, I have the exact same issue on my 330i n52 but I was wondering what part did you have to remove to get access to those broken bolts, I don’t find any way..

Hey , I plan on doing this soon and I wanted to know if unbolting the mounting bracket gave you enough room to extract the broken bolts. If not what did you have to remove or do to get t the bolts easier? I would like to know what to expect before y into this job. Thanks and please get back to me at your earliest convenience!

Thanks, the problem of bolt shear on the N52 engine support brackets seems surprisingly common. I've been searching extensively for the torque specs for the replacement bolts and I've found a couple different recommendations. You cite 25 Nm + 90-degrees. Unfortunately, newtis.info has been censored by BMW, and the Bentley manual doesn't give specs.

Wow, cannot believe newtis.info got censored. Ridiculous! That is complete BS.

I’ve been searching and searching for torque specs too. Some people say 25nm, some say 28, some say 38! Did you ever find the correct answer. I have N52 too. I will go with the figure from this of 25nm if in doubt.

Hi. Thanks for the great video. Do you have to lower the subframe to access the bolts?

I’m having the same issues on my 07 bmw 335i coupe. Recently did the clutch and as I was putting the trans back on I put a bolt it. Nothing happened at first but soon as I started turning it became stuck and I tighten more then snap.

Do you have to drop the subframe to get to these bolts?

Bro what kind of drill did you use? Regular 20v OR Impact

    • @elwes7125

PPL Definitely Use A impact drill with a titanium Drill Bit, To Drill Threw Aluminum Bolt And then I used $8.99 Bolt Extractors From Habor Fright, Worked Perfect!!
