A landslide? I love Tidal Tempest Present theme. That singing in the background makes it one of the best tracks of the US Soundtrack. Then again I always prefer a catchy melody over ambience.
Present: JP The Japanese version is a very atmospheric and immersive track that truly makes you feel like you are diving, drifting off into this underwater cave. The North American version is good, and a decent track, but the former is superior in my opinion. Good Future: NA This one was a bit closer; I like the Japanese version of the theme, but the North American was my preference because I am a big fan of rock music, and it seems like a feel-good upbeat piece of music which is nice to hear while going through the level. Bad Future: JP People tend to prefer the North American version of this one, and while I can see why, I prefer the JP one. The American track is very dark and desolate, but the Japanese version creates a panicky and heart-pumping “escape” sort of track which is creepy, but in the best way. It also reminds me of Final Rush from SA2 for some reason, does anyone else feel that?
*EU Present:* Sonic, it's just water... but don't drown.... *US Present:* Go to sleep and drown. *EU Good Future:* Funky... *US Good Future:* GROOVY *EU Bad Future:* YOU FAILED TO SAVE ANIMALS, NOW DIE IN DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION *US Bad Future:* You have one more chance.... 9/4. Bad Future is better tho in the US.
Present: JP (sounds mysterious) Bad Future: Tie (JP is more of a panic inducing theme, and US says if you really want to turn it around, you better fix what's been done) Good Future: US (it does fit an underwater level)
thank you very much for posting all the comparisons kingmeteorstudios... it makes me doesn't need to click like crazy to find each of them. I m in SEA yet i got the USA version of this game so the US version music kinda grows on me.
Present: Tie. I like the moodiness of the JP version yet the US version sounds like the Fresh Prince theme which is also cool. Bad Future: US. One is submersible and sensual and the other is like an eerie rave o_o Good Future: US.
Present: Tie (Oh man, I couldn't decide which one to pick. The JP version is beautiful and mysterious, while the US version is catchy and fun.) Good Future: US (I don't understand why do everyone think this version does not suit an underwater level. This song fits a power plant stage very well, which is exactly what the good future shows. The JP version gets boring very easily.) Bad Future: US (Come on, this one is obvious. This version is dark, depressing, and sad, perfect for a bad future like this one. I love the fact that these women breathing vocals are meaning that you're running out of air, because of the polluted water, and you can also hear cracking noises at the background, meaning that something is falling apart. There is so much to this song that was done right, and I loved it. The JP version doesn't even suit an underwater level at all, and is in fact quite creepy.) Score for me is now 1-6
The first time I've heard this song, I found it to be indeed terrifying, now today, I think it's a bit catchy, but still rather terrifying. But I still think that the US version fits and it's better than the JP version.
JP: Present: Geez, now I'm doing scuba diving! Good future: Under a starry sky, I swim in the ocean. Bad future: OMG!!! A shark is chasing me!!! US: Present: Just cruising in my yacht seeing the sky and sea meeting each other. Good future: Well I'm drinking my cocktail on sunbed at night. Nothing unusual... Bad future: Am I listening to an erotic song from a porn site?
Present: Tie (The JP/EU version fits the level more than the US version, because it's supposed to be an ancient labyrinth. However, the US is a very groovy and catchy song.) Good Future: Tie (The JP/EU version is beautiful, but it doesn't sound so energetic like the present version. The US version is really cool. It has some awesome guitar-riffs, but it doesn't really match an aquarium and/or good future. Bad Future: US (The JP/EU version is awesome and very catchy, but it's a little creepy and it doesn't really fit an abandoned sewer. The US version PERFECTLY fits the bad future.) JP/EU: 7 US: 10
Tidal Tempest Present - JP/EU JP/EU - This is exactly how an underwater cave should sound. NA - A bit funky and sounds vaguely like swimming underwater, though not very suitable for the level. Good Future - Tie JP/EU - Jovial and hopeful, all while giving off an atmosphere of a futuristic underwater cave system. NA - All I feel is confused when I listen to this. Bad Future - NA JP/EU - Sounds like impending doom but isn't very underwater-like NA - Atmospheric and at the same time, giving off the vibe of something sinister lurking.
Ironic how the JP Soundtrack is praised for being funky and groovy while the US Soundtrack is praised for being very atmospheric, but Tidal Tempest Present is where that observation is flipped. I actually prefer Tidal Tempest Present in the US version, possibly because it sounds like it would fit right into the JP Soundtrack.
Atmospheric music tends to make things more noticeable in games to highlight the impact of what you see. Seeing that the US soundtrack often highlights that, it’s quite surprising.
Present: JP: Hmm... Looks like Underground Temple! US: Why do I want to dance? Good Future: JP: It's rather shiny over here! US: Hmm... What a weird machines! Bad Future: JP: Who turned out the lights? US: Wow! Someone ruined this!
Present: JP (I love this song! It's beautiful and mysterious, which really fits this ancient underwater labyrinth. The NA version is a very groovy and catchy song, and is very fitting for an underwater level, but it doesn't quite match the beauty of the JP version) Good Future: Tie (I think the JP version sounds more like a good future than the NA version and is also way more suitable for an underwater level, but I really do like the NA versions guitar-riffs) Bad Future: NA (The JP version is very creepy, almost as if you're being chased by death itself! However, I don't think it's very fitting for an underwater level. The NA version is dark and fits the level perfectly) JP: 6 NA: 3
Bar Goldstein Lol hell no. Present: American Good Future: Japanese Bad Future: American Both JP/US songs fit. US Good Future doesn't fit. JP Bad Future: Not sure if this is an underwater city in crisis or a undereater rave party hosted by Robotnik himself. American fits the atmosphere much more.
@@bartdude82 the US present is boring, so is the JP good future the tone of that bassline in the JP bad future just screams toxic water to me. Though I think both bad future themes are great, it was hard choosing which one I liked more
Present: JP (Honestly, while I do love the funky melody of the US version, the sheer beauty of the Japanese version blows it out of the water (pun intended). I agree with you 100% here.) Good Future: JP (It wasn't easy to decide on a winner, though. The American version has a great guitar solo, sounds upbeat and is suitable for a Good Future, but again, the beauty and tranquillity of the JP version wins in my book. It also helps that the Japanese song actually fits a water level, unlike its American counterpart.) Bad Future: JP (I think I'm the only person who prefers the Japanese track, but hear me out. I do think the US track is very fitting for the Bad Future, is suitably dark and provides a great ambience, but I think it's a little repetitive and the vocals kind of ruin it for me. I also don't see why you don't think the Japanese version doesn't fit a water level. The sound effects in the background and the song's instrumentation sound like something you could hear underwater. In my opinion, the JP version sounds appropriately dark and fits the "polluted water" motif, and the US version, while very fitting, is a little depressing.) JP: 8 US: 3
I love the JP Bad Future. It's robotic, it's energetic. It's telling you to get your ass moving. I do, however, understand the US Version is a bit more fitting because of the drowning sounds and the overall melancholy vibes.
The US Bad Future is SUPPOSED to be depressing. That’s the whole point. It’s a timeline where Eggman destroyed Little Planet and rules over what remains.
Present: US: 9.5/10 JP: 9.5/10 (LOVE THEM! JP Tidal Tempest is one of the most peaceful songs in a Sonic game, aside from really fitting the level. US is imo, more memorable and also fits the level perfectly. Good Future: US: 8.5/10 JP: 8/10 (I agree, the Japanese track isnt much better than the present music. The American music, while doesnt fit the level, I thought it was very catchy and had some pretty good guitars) Bad Future: US: 9.5/10 JP: 9/10 (The US theme has to be one of the most fitting musics in the game! I really like the JP version too, only it doesnt fit a water level nearly as well) US:8 JP: 5
The past/present/good future songs are so uplifting and relaxed that the Bad Future one sounds more menacing and creepy by comparison. Like it's been much more ruined/corrupted.
Ah. Tidal Tempest. One of the better Sonic water levels, and pretty well balanced in terms of the two soundtracks. And still, I have my preferences. Present: I freaking love the US one. It is such a great tune and flows well with the underwater segments. Not too atmospheric (surprising for the US ost) but still sounds a bit like a cold underwater cave. The JP version is honestly one of my absolute favorites of the bunch. It’s like the atmosphere missing from the rest of the ost was packed into this one song. You can practically hear the water moving throughout, and the melody is gentle and romantic. The best part? These two songs were composed relatively similarly, so if you play them together it sounds seamless, like they were meant to be one song! How can I possibly put one over the other when they’re better together?! Good Future: The JP version is serene, bright and still carries the romantic essence of the Present. It truly sounds like the place is full of joy, like the Good Future should have. The US version also sounds peaceful, but in a more groovy way. The guitar riffs are excellent, but it lacks the joy the JP version has. Even though I think the US one is a better song, I’m giving this round to the JP version for nailing the happy atmosphere this Good Future calls for. Bad Future: The JP version is a horribly distorted and metallic rendition of the Present theme, signifying Eggman’s reckless tampering with the water system, but while it delivers a great sense of panic, it’s also hard to listen to without getting a headache. The US version however takes a completely different approach. It depicts the formerly melodic caves as a dark, metallic and somber shell of its former self, the vocals struggling for breath as the area struggles in vain to stay alive following Eggman’s cruel reconstruction. It’s the exact opposite of the JP Good Future in every way, perfectly showcasing what happens when technology destroys instead of preserving. The US version wins easily.
Present: Tie! I really like both....that's it... Good Future: US holy shit the US version is amazing Bad Future: Japanese, I really like it and I think it doesn't suit Tidal Tempest but I think it suits a fast paced level with a time limit for something very important like a bomb idk something like that. I like the US version as well but not as much as the Japanese version
Tidal Tempest Present is more suited to the Japanese and Europeans. It really sounds like an ancient ruin. Water, and the tubes over 100 years here would be .. JP / EU wins. The good future is better for the JP / EU. It's like a modern aquarium where fish like to live in it. The US version sounds a bit like GYM. Bad future is finally back to US. It is rather dark and fits the Blasted aquarium. US wins! US: 5 JP/EU: 6
Round 9: North American won (Its just really good to me) Round 10: North American won (THAT GUITAR) Round 11: Japan (Its perfect for a bad future, just not an underwater level)
current score for me: 7 - 1 American be slippin, let's see if it will get some points // present Japanese - Just soothing and groovy, it captures the essence as well as providing the groovyness, the second segment is even better omg, it's so well put together and it maintains the bread and butter of the music too American - Ooohhhhhh this one is soo gooddd too damnn this is a close call, "yadidadadooo" is so nicee. The vocals are really a nice touch for sure. This is definitely an honorable mention 8 - 1 // Good Future Japanese - Woooahhh they always start on such a strong start ahhhhhh! Nice drum beat too but that's all it has American - Freakin Project Hero vibes, nice guitar riffs too and it has a bit more in there 8 - 2 (lmfao that tie you gave it had me ctfu) // Bad Future Japanese - oooh this sounds robotic af like that beep boop bop music that Mr. Krabs was diggin lmao. Second segment is aight American - Wooooahh America definitely killed Japan with this one, the vocals those ambient sounds too! 8 - 3
tidal tempest: P JP/EU: we will go to a cave with water USA: more like going in a car at night GF JP/EU: whistles USA: so beautiful BF JP/EU: run theres a guy coming after us USA: lets have sex
My opinion: Present: Tie! Both are so good. JP sounds more "Tempest", and US, "Tidal". Good Future: JP! Very relaxing music, and fits more the level. Bad Future: JP. Cool music :) US 4 JP 3
Present: *JP* (While the US version delivers a funky groove [That should be the JP version's job, US], the JP version is more suitable for a level that takes place underwater. I also find it to be a much better song overall. The JP version wins this one.) Good Future: *JP* (Again, the US version has a nice groove to it, but it doesn't suit an underwater level nearly as well as the JP version does. The JP version really fits a somewhat futuristic water level and is overall a much better song. So, the JP version wins this one again.) Bad Future: *US* (Now THIS is what I'm talking about US. The JP version does give off a robotic and panicky feel. However, it doesn't fit an underwater level at all. The US version however, is just plain beautiful. It fits an underwater level so well, and it gives you the feeling that you are in a polluted wasteland. The moaning sounds and the breathing give you the sense that this is a bad place to live in and the beautiful guitar riffs really tell you how dark the Bad Future of Tidal Tempest is. The US version wins.) US: 4 JP: 6
Round 9 - Tidal Tempest Present I'd like to point out that the NA soundtrack is almost foreign to me at this point because Sonic CD was so hard as a kid that I never really got this far unless I cheated. So both soundtracks are fair game at this point; sorry NA, but no nostalgia can save you now. JP: Giving a good water feel. This actually sounds dark. Fits the atmosphere of this game much better. It's got that 90s Streets of Rage feel, combined with water elements. Really good. Not too dark, so the present is a plus for this kind. Wonder how the future will come in. Very well done JP soundtrack. NA has some competition. NA: Not a strong start. Still giving that 90s feel. I hear drops, and then we have some more water elements. I like the singers. It's not as SONIC as the JP version, but this is coming along nicely with a sort of crescendo leading into a jazzy feel. Good for a Present feel. The change in pitch is a great addition. Round 9 goes to the JP version. Both songs have a watery feel to it, but the JP for the first time gives a darker tone. They also used more water elements instead of making it jazzy like. I LIKE the NA song, but for this game, I'd go with the JP version. 5 - 5. And you said...you agree. I wouldn't say by a landslide, but yeah, the JP gets it. Round 10 - Tidal Tempest Good Future JP: Keeping with the melody, and making a good remix so far. The water elements are gone almost completely. This song makes it sound like a struggle more so than a GOOD future, where it has been won already. But it's still fun. It doesn't look like TOO much work was put into it. A solo would have helped. NA: Umm...is this a remix or a different song? Not seeing the connection at all. It's like this had a completely different composer. It fits a Sonic Adventure level pretty well, but I can't connect these two songs PRESENT and FUTURE together at ALL. Sorry, but even that awesome guitar can't help the fact that this is SUCH a departure from the original. Round 10 is an easy victory for the JP version. I think, on its own, the NA version is okay, actually even better, but definitely not as a FUTURE remix for Tidal Tempest Present. Not at all. Although the Japanese version is rather boring, and it seems like they didn't have any ideas...the fact that it sounds closer to the original, edges the win. 6 - 5. And you said...a TIE? Hey, you did what I did on the last one. But you didn't add the score, so I can adjust mine. 5 - 4. Round 11 - Tidal Tempest Bad Future JP: Whoa, where did the water elements go? This sounds... ...sorry, this sounds kind of annoying. This is supposed to be a water level, but it sounds more like a future laser type level. It doesn't fit at all. Plus, the melody is gone, severing connections to the present or good future. It sounds like it should be in Crash Bandicoot really. Good song, but not for this. NA: THIS is dark. I like this as a BAD future, and it keeps the watery feel a bit. Still looking for the melody. Can't hear it. I wouldn't want to play Sonic to this level due to the combination of drowning fear and the music. Not bad. Round 11 is a landslide victory for the NA version. I don't like the disconnect from the original melody from both songs, but the NA version fits a BAD future better. It's almost scary in a way, and that's great for provoking anxiety to escape the future, or to not go back 😂 . The JP version JUST doesn't seem to hit any good spots for a Sonic game here, like they lost ideas. NA seals the deal here. 5 - 5. And you said...you agree. I like your analysis.
(Hardest musics to decide wich one is the best IMO) Present: JP/EU: While the american version fits better a water level, and the bass at the begining fits the volcanoes perfectly, the japanese is simply way more beautifull, and despite not being as fitting as the american for a water level, it has a mystical ruins feel that the american doesn't accomplish. Good future: Tie: both are amazing, I really like the watery atmosphere of this version, and how beautifull it is overall, but the american sounds more as a good future, and has a really cool guitar solo Bad future: US: just as the one for the good future fits better a good future that the japanese, this one fits better a bad future, it's watery, sad, and still has a mystical sound to it, the japanese sounds as a generic sewer level. JP/EU: 3 US: 4
Present:Tie The JP is more like a SPA, but the US really gives the underwater adventure, both are amazing i cant decide Good Future:Tie US really have a feeling to the stage texture, the JP is pretty cool too Bad Future:JP Miles better thanks to the energetic song, the us is like the good future but pitched and slowed
I wonder if anyone else share this same thought but. Personally I gotta disagree with what ya said there about the Japanese version not fitting. The NA version is good the bad future. But Japan bad future fits the level more perfect. It gives off a creepy feeling because the surroundings are pretty damn creepy and dark but it also gives off a mechanical feel. If you look at the background it`s a rundown rusted water factory. The JP version captures that perfect. If the level took place in an outdoor area then the USA version would fit but it isn`t outdoors.
My opinion about these soundtracks: Present: US (JP/EU Present would fit the good future, US is more present like) Good Future: JP/EU (It has more the good future feeling than US. US used too much guitar.) Bad Future: US (US fits the atmosphere better than JP/EU. JP/EU don't sound like a water level, more like a laboratory or such) Result: JP/EU: 5 US: 6
I agree 100 percent especially the bad future of tidal tempest the Japanese version is crazy and creepy the USA Version is perfect that fits the atmosphere
Tidal tempest results for me: P: Tie, the 2 songs attacts a ancient-labyrinth-acuatic level. GF: Tie again, the JP/EU version songs beautiful, but US is really cool. BF: JP/EU , The US version looks like jungle cave, but the JP/EU version is PERFECTLY for a Bad future. 9-2
Present: tie It's a tough choice for me, both US and JPN versions have a pretty catchy groove to them which is what makes music great, but i find they each suit a water level... in a rather different way... too different to compare. The JPN puts emphasis on the beauty of a water area, but the US version gives a vibe that can kind of support just how irritating water levels can be Good future: JPN You've kept the area from becoming a decrepit sewer, this is a time to take in the beauty of the area... not get down and have a groove. Japanese beats the US version by a land slide with this one. It's a bit tough because neither really suit the water levels though. Bad Future: US The US version is just SO much more atmospheric, rather than instilling a sense of panic and dread like the JP version, it instills a sense of darkness and hopelessness, which not only suits it environmentally wise, but also suits the idea of a bad future. Plus... the Japanese version just doesn't appeal to me as anything but something for a chaotic battle and isn't ANYWHERE near suitable for a water level The score is 3-6 for the American version.
The US tracks for tidal tempest completely destroy the JP. Present: Yes I know it doesn’t fit but jesus christ, that groove is all I need. Good Future: He said it didn’t fit? Whenever I hear that I immediately think of an aquarium. The Jp suites the good future of Quartz Quadrant. Bad Future: The JP is just creepy, and just not a good song overall. The US version feels like you are walking through an abandoned water cave, that was destroyed by pollution. These are just my opinions so don’t fight about it.
My situation for now is this: JP 3 - US 4 Tidal Tempest Present: I think you've been too harsh on the US version, but overall I agree with everything you said. The US version it's chill, enjoyable and it fits a water themed level very well, but the JP one does it all better and has a great atmosphere: it's mysterious, peaceful and sad at the same time. It wins this one without doubt. JP 4 - US 4 Tidal Tempest Good Future: even in this case, i think you've said everything it needed to be said, I'd only be redundant. But that's why that's not a tie in my opinion. The JP one it's just a low effort, more boring and overall worse version of the present, while the US one does a great guitar work and it's more enjoyable, even if it doesn't fit the level very well. So, to me that's a win for the US version. JP 4 - US 5 Tidal Tempest Bad Future: i don't really find the JP one creepy, but I think it try to do what the JP version of Palmtree Panic Bad Future did. The problem is that that's nothing new by now: with Palmtree Panic, we faced the consequences of our failure for the first time and the music delivered a great "in your face" impact, but now that's an old story. Even from a musical perspective, it just does it worse. The US one win this by far with it's perfect and fitting atmosphere. JP 4 - US 6
A lot of people sleep on the NA Present version . Sure the Japanese version is awesome but track in the US version is very creative because of the use of water. Vocalist is drinking water and making a refreshing sound and the main melody is spoon tapping glasses to make the melody.
JP Present: Aquatic US Present: Aquatic reggae JP Good: As kelyaum said: GROOVE! US Good: Lovely and catchy, but beats japanese JP Bad: Sonic cant find any air bubbles! US Bad: Makes me feel like im in a funeral in a church. And in Present jp wins Good future us wins Bad future us wins -.-
JP Present: Initial thoughts it sounds like it’s in a cave due to the dripping, echoey feel in the details. Sounds like it would go for that one Cave level in _Sonic 2_ than a remake of Labrynth Zone. NA Present: Surprisingly, it equally doesn’t fit the aesthetic theme but I can at least rationalize its use here given all the waterslides and relaxed vibe. My Pick: I’d go for NA just because it wasn’t so confused. JP Good Future: Should have been used for the Present because now it actually sounds like a fantastical water zone with amazing designs of flowing water. NA Good Future: This sounds like an upbeat and positive turn in the setting and, using the waterslide argument, seems like a fun place to play now that the trouble is over. My Pick: NA for this one. JP Bad Future: Doesn’t really bring to mind water and could probably be used in any machine setting like a plant or metropolis. NA Bad Future: Definitely get the water but it sounds like it could be the Present or a Good outcome. My Pick: I like the NA version but the JP actually comes off as “bad”. Draw?
I wish for the Good Future background they didn't have an aquarium and they had the labyrinth walls gone so it could have a more natural look and show the volcanoes covered in snow.
Present: The JP version sounds pretty relaxing and enigmatic, while also fitting the water level inside a cave, which I think it's one of the most mysterious water levels in a Sonic game. I like how you can hear water drops in the background. As for the US version, it sounds pretty cool and fitting for a water level, but it just doesn't have the same mysterious ambience that the JP version has, it would suit a stage such as Hidrocity zone more. Therefore JP takes the win for me. Good Future: The JP version is similar to it's present counterpart, while still keeping the mysterious vibe, in addition it sounds more futuristic which makes sense. Then there's the US version, which I don't think really suits the level at all, even less than Present US. At least the JP version keeps the same atmosphere, so I'll go with that. Bad Future: For the JP version, all of sudden all the mystery is overtaken by the futuristic noises. It gives a sense of urgency, but I don't think it's the most suitable for the level. The US version sounds relaxing but in a dark, desperate way, I really like what they did here, so I'll vote for the US version. So far: JP vs US 7 4
Tidal: JP present and a little of the US present version Tempest: JP present and US present JP good future: Wow! Look how peaceful and relaxing this place is now! US good future: Good job man!!! And i have a secret to tell for you... IT'S POOL PARTY TIMEEEEEEEE!!!!! JP bad future: OH NO! RUN! THE WATER IS FLOODING THE WHOLE PLACE AND THE "SHARK ROBOTS" OF EGGMAN ARE COMING! US bad future:Everything is dead and "robotized" in this place, i need to escape this place as fast i can...
*Tidal Tempest* Japanese: 8/10 North American: 8/10 The Japanese sounds like a cavern feel of the beat which sounded right for this zone. The North American sound however was more of a hip hop beat flavour. I don’t know, I like these tracks, but this one is also tie. *Tidal Tempest (Good Future)* Japanese: 9/10 North American: 9/10 Again another tie. Japanese is like a virtual version of the present which is perfect for the good future and North American reminds me of the New Jack Swing flavour of music. Tie. *Tidal Tempest (Bad Future)* Japanese: 8/10 North American: 9/10 The virtual space chase flavour of the Japanese version is good, suitable for the bad future for sure. The North American sounds like a dark mysterious suspenseful flavour, also suitable for bad future. Very close, but slight edge goes to the North American.
My take Present - JP+US This is hardly a contest but both played together is like harmony. You have the dripping caverns with the elegant royal treatment decent in the us and mermaid vocals. Its a match in heaven. Good future - US It sounds like you are rubbing the salt in eggman's beat up wounds. Meanwhile the JP doesn't do anything impressive. Bad future - JP It's perfect! The fast paced urgency makes it feel like you are going to die if you dont leave. The US although the breathing makes it creepy it has no sense of needing to leave.
Seeing back from a week ago I really don’t think this is settled, I, like Bouncy Glow Spin-Offs, am redoing my vote. (Its slightly changed for the Bad Future) Present: JP It is cool to listen to and fits a water level perfectly. The US version however doesn’t have that much watery sounds to it. Good Future: US Aaaaah... So much better than it’s JP counterpart. The Japanese version is a sad counterpart and shouldn’t be that sad. I mean, it still kinda fits a good future. All of the GFs are really sad. Except for Collision Chaos. Bad Future: Tie Both are scary but the US version is less scary. It and the Japanese version both fit perfectly. There’s no winner for this one.
A landslide? I love Tidal Tempest Present theme. That singing in the background makes it one of the best tracks of the US Soundtrack. Then again I always prefer a catchy melody over ambience.
Yeah they were both good tracks. Not by a landslide tho it should of been a tie.
American is better
Nah it’s sounds like the Fresh Prince of Tidal Tempest, it doesn’t suit the level AT ALL and that piano is gorgeous
I'd say a mashup of the 2 works. The mermaid vocals paired with the aquatic feels beautiful
I also prefer catchy song over both, but Jp version has both, also American version has rave vibes, in a temple level bruh.
Present: JP
The Japanese version is a very atmospheric and immersive track that truly makes you feel like you are diving, drifting off into this underwater cave. The North American version is good, and a decent track, but the former is superior in my opinion.
Good Future: NA
This one was a bit closer; I like the Japanese version of the theme, but the North American was my preference because I am a big fan of rock music, and it seems like a feel-good upbeat piece of music which is nice to hear while going through the level.
Bad Future: JP
People tend to prefer the North American version of this one, and while I can see why, I prefer the JP one. The American track is very dark and desolate, but the Japanese version creates a panicky and heart-pumping “escape” sort of track which is creepy, but in the best way. It also reminds me of Final Rush from SA2 for some reason, does anyone else feel that?
I think the US Version is more fitting, but as a song, I love the JP version. It's so damn robotic and fast.
I like the jp bad future, because sounds like you are an explorer searching things of a bad place
What if i do some thing with a us ver of it and make it louder and louder?
I can’t take the US version of Tidal Tempest Bad Future seriously anymore after I saw someone say it sounds like something that would be in a hentai
I think the best part of the US soundtrack are the bad future songs.
Me too but bad future is not the only good thinks in north american
Agree
Agree
Mx Brooke Lee 6 years later
Tidal tempest present and the whacky workbench songs in the U.S are also pretty good. And Stardust Speedway to an extant.
*EU Present:* Sonic, it's just water... but don't drown....
*US Present:* Go to sleep and drown.
*EU Good Future:* Funky...
*US Good Future:* GROOVY
*EU Bad Future:* YOU FAILED TO SAVE ANIMALS, NOW DIE IN DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION
*US Bad Future:* You have one more chance....
9/4. Bad Future is better tho in the US.
Present: JP (sounds mysterious)
Bad Future: Tie (JP is more of a panic inducing theme, and US says if you really want to turn it around, you better fix what's been done)
Good Future: US (it does fit an underwater level)
FINNALY SOMEONE WHO TRUSTS ME ON THE GF
thank you very much for posting all the comparisons kingmeteorstudios... it makes me doesn't need to click like crazy to find each of them. I m in SEA yet i got the USA version of this game so the US version music kinda grows on me.
Present: Tie. I like the moodiness of the JP version yet the US version sounds like the Fresh Prince theme which is also cool.
Bad Future: US. One is submersible and sensual and the other is like an eerie rave o_o
Good Future: US.
Present: Tie (Oh man, I couldn't decide which one to pick. The JP version is beautiful and mysterious, while the US version is catchy and fun.)
Good Future: US (I don't understand why do everyone think this version does not suit an underwater level. This song fits a power plant stage very well, which is exactly what the good future shows. The JP version gets boring very easily.)
Bad Future: US (Come on, this one is obvious. The JP version doesn't even suit an underwater level at all, and is in fact quite creepy.)
Score for me is now 1-6
Well, of course the Japanese Bad Future's creepy. It's a bad future. But it IS a little scary sounding...
I agree. Just like KingMeteorStudios said at the video, Bad Futures should sound more dark than creepy
+JuliaSMro Yeah, Tidal Tempest is a water plant, not a hellish mechanized nightmare factory. That's Wacky Workbench.
+JuliaSMro The beginning of the bad future JP has always terrified me, especially with the beeps and boops. Luckily, the boss theme replaces it.
The first time I've heard this song, I found it to be indeed terrifying, now today, I think it's a bit catchy, but still rather terrifying. But I still think that the US version fits and it's better than the JP version.
JP:
Present: Geez, now I'm doing scuba diving!
Good future: Under a starry sky, I swim in the ocean.
Bad future: OMG!!! A shark is chasing me!!!
US:
Present:
Just cruising in my yacht seeing the sky and sea meeting each other.
Good future: Well I'm drinking my cocktail on sunbed at night. Nothing unusual...
Bad future: Am I listening to an erotic song from a porn site?
Ayo wut the shit
"US: Bad Future: Am I listening to an erotic song from a porn site?
*Loads shotgun* You know very well that's not true! The USA BF fits better!
he was speaking facks though
Present: Tie (The JP/EU version fits the level more than the US version, because it's supposed to be an ancient labyrinth. However, the US is a very groovy and catchy song.)
Good Future: Tie (The JP/EU version is beautiful, but it doesn't sound so energetic like the present version. The US version is really cool. It has some awesome guitar-riffs, but it doesn't really match an aquarium and/or good future.
Bad Future: US (The JP/EU version is awesome and very catchy, but it's a little creepy and it doesn't really fit an abandoned sewer. The US version PERFECTLY fits the bad future.)
JP/EU: 7
US: 10

Holy shit the bass at Tidal Tempest Bad Future U.S. is just fucking epic.
Tidal Tempest
Present - JP/EU
JP/EU - This is exactly how an underwater cave should sound.
NA - A bit funky and sounds vaguely like swimming underwater, though not very suitable for the level.
Good Future - Tie
JP/EU - Jovial and hopeful, all while giving off an atmosphere of a futuristic underwater cave system.
NA - All I feel is confused when I listen to this.
Bad Future - NA
JP/EU - Sounds like impending doom but isn't very underwater-like
NA - Atmospheric and at the same time, giving off the vibe of something sinister lurking.
Jp is better tho
Present: JP
Bad Future: US
Good Future: JP
Atmospheric music tends to make things more noticeable in games to highlight the impact of what you see. Seeing that the US soundtrack often highlights that, it’s quite surprising.

JP: Hmm... Looks like Underground Temple!
US: Why do I want to dance?
Good Future:
JP: It's rather shiny over here!

Good Future: Tie (I think the JP version sounds more like a good future than the NA version and is also way more suitable for an underwater level, but I really do like the NA versions guitar-riffs)

the tone of that bassline in the JP bad future just screams toxic water to me. Though I think both bad future themes are great, it was hard choosing which one I liked more
RUclips turning into X and also Tidal Tempest Good Future US is my favorite sonic CD song
Present: JP (Honestly, while I do love the funky melody of the US version, the sheer beauty of the Japanese version blows it out of the water (pun intended). I agree with you 100% here.)
Good Future: JP (It wasn't easy to decide on a winner, though. The American version has a great guitar solo, sounds upbeat and is suitable for a Good Future, but again, the beauty and tranquillity of the JP version wins in my book. It also helps that the Japanese song actually fits a water level, unlike its American counterpart.)
Bad Future: JP (I think I'm the only person who prefers the Japanese track, but hear me out. In my opinion, the JP version sounds appropriately dark and fits the "polluted water" motif, and the US version, while very fitting, is a little depressing.)
JP: 8
US: 3
I love the JP Bad Future. It's robotic, it's energetic. It's telling you to get your ass moving. I do, however, understand the US Version is a bit more fitting because of the drowning sounds and the overall melancholy vibes.
The US Bad Future is SUPPOSED to be depressing. That’s the whole point. It’s a timeline where Eggman destroyed Little Planet and rules over what remains.
i agree with you!

What's so creepy with the bad future of tidal tempest?! It's so catchy ok!
How is the JP Bad Future creepy? I think it sounds awesome
I agree, though not quite as well-fitting as the US Version, I love how mechanical and panic-inducing it sounds.
True
Good Future: US holy shit the US version is amazing
Bad Future: Japanese, I really like it and I think it doesn't suit Tidal Tempest but I think it suits a fast paced level with a time limit for something very important like a bomb idk something like that. I like the US version as well but not as much as the Japanese version
Present: JP
Good Future: Tie?

I agree with you King Batter about the bad future theme of tidal tempest.
US wins!
US: 5
JP/EU: 6

Present: *JP* (While the US version delivers a funky groove [That should be the JP version's job, US], the JP version is more suitable for a level that takes place underwater. I also find it to be a much better song overall. The JP version wins this one.)
Good Future: *JP* (Again, the US version has a nice groove to it, but it doesn't suit an underwater level nearly as well as the JP version does. The JP version really fits a somewhat futuristic water level and is overall a much better song. So, the JP version wins this one again.)
Bad Future: *US* (Now THIS is what I'm talking about US. The US version wins.)

Round 9 - Tidal Tempest Present
I'd like to point out that the NA soundtrack is almost foreign to me at this point because Sonic CD was so hard as a kid that I never really got this far unless I cheated.
Round 10 - Tidal Tempest Good Future
JP: Keeping with the melody, and making a good remix so far.
Round 11 - Tidal Tempest Bad Future
JP: Whoa, where did the water elements go?
I wish Europe had made a soundtrack, some of the greatest music comes from the UK.
I think the Bad Future JP Song reminds me of a Mobile Game that I used to play a lot.
(Hardest musics to decide wich one is the best IMO)
Present: JP/EU: While the american version fits better a water level, and the bass at the begining fits the volcanoes perfectly, the japanese is simply way more beautifull, and despite not being as fitting as the american for a water level, it has a mystical ruins feel that the american doesn't accomplish.
Good future: Tie: both are amazing, I really like the watery atmosphere of this version, and how beautifull it is overall, but the american sounds more as a good future, and has a really cool guitar solo
Bad future: US: just as the one for the good future fits better a good future that the japanese, this one fits better a bad future, it's watery, sad, and still has a mystical sound to it, the japanese sounds as a generic sewer level.
JP/EU: 3
US: 4

I wonder if anyone else share this same thought but. Personally I gotta disagree with what ya said there about the Japanese version not fitting. The NA version is good the bad future. But Japan bad future fits the level more perfect. It gives off a creepy feeling because the surroundings are pretty damn creepy and dark but it also gives off a mechanical feel. If you look at the background it`s a rundown rusted water factory. The JP version captures that perfect. If the level took place in an outdoor area then the USA version would fit but it isn`t outdoors.
The first track on this one is a banger
My opinion about these soundtracks:
Present: US (JP/EU Present would fit the good future, US is more present like)
Good Future: JP/EU (It has more the good future feeling than US. US used too much guitar.)
Bad Future: US (US fits the atmosphere better than JP/EU. JP/EU don't sound like a water level, more like a laboratory or such)
Result:
JP/EU: 5
US: 6
I agree 100 percent especially the bad future of tidal tempest the Japanese version is crazy and creepy the USA Version is perfect that fits the atmosphere

Tidal tempest results for me:
P: Tie, the 2 songs attacts a ancient-labyrinth-acuatic level.
GF: Tie again, the JP/EU version songs beautiful, but US is really cool.
BF: JP/EU , The US version looks like jungle cave, but the JP/EU version is PERFECTLY for a Bad future.

Jp present: Atmospheric and beautifull
Us present: YABBA DABA DOO!!!

It's a tough choice for me, both US and JPN versions have a pretty catchy groove to them which is what makes music great, but i find they each suit a water level... in a rather different way... too different to compare. The JPN puts emphasis on the beauty of a water area, but the US version gives a vibe that can kind of support just how irritating water levels can be
Good future: JPN
You've kept the area from becoming a decrepit sewer, this is a time to take in the beauty of the area... not get down and have a groove. Japanese beats the US version by a land slide with this one. It's a bit tough because neither really suit the water levels though.
Bad Future: US
The US version is just SO much more atmospheric, rather than instilling a sense of panic and dread like the JP version, it instills a sense of darkness and hopelessness, which not only suits it environmentally wise, but also suits the idea of a bad future. Plus... the Japanese version just doesn't appeal to me as anything but something for a chaotic battle and isn't ANYWHERE near suitable for a water level
The score is 3-6 for the American version.

The US tracks for tidal tempest completely destroy the JP.
Present:
Yes I know it doesn’t fit but jesus christ, that groove is all I need.
My situation for now is this:
JP 3 - US 4
Tidal Tempest Present: I think you've been too harsh on the US version, but overall I agree with everything you said. The US version it's chill, enjoyable and it fits a water themed level very well, but the JP one does it all better and has a great atmosphere: it's mysterious, peaceful and sad at the same time. It wins this one without doubt.
JP 4 - US 4
Tidal Tempest Good Future: even in this case, i think you've said everything it needed to be said, I'd only be redundant. But that's why that's not a tie in my opinion. The JP one it's just a low effort, more boring and overall worse version of the present, while the US one does a great guitar work and it's more enjoyable, even if it doesn't fit the level very well. So, to me that's a win for the US version.
JP 4 - US 5
Tidal Tempest Bad Future: i don't really find the JP one creepy, but I think it try to do what the JP version of Palmtree Panic Bad Future did.

Jp tidal tempist present sounds calming and good for me
Present: The JP version sounds pretty relaxing and enigmatic, while also fitting the water level inside a cave, which I think it's one of the most mysterious water levels in a Sonic game.

People hate on tidal tempest present it's one of my favorite from the classics honestly
I hope you will do a act 1 and 2 comparison soon (s3k)
The Japanese present time music sounds like something straight out of Streets of Rage with that Sonic vibe.

Tidal: JP present and a little of the US present version
Tempest: JP present and US present
JP good future: Wow!
From 1:35-1:37, it kinda sounds like the Speed Highway- At Dawn music from Sonic Adventure.
No bad future sounds like something you would hear from the terminator
*Tidal Tempest*
Japanese: 8/10
North American: 8/10
The Japanese sounds like a cavern feel of the beat which sounded right for this zone. The North American sound however was more of a hip hop beat flavour. I don’t know, I like these tracks, but this one is also tie.
*Tidal Tempest (Good Future)*
Japanese: 9/10
North American: 9/10
Again another tie. Japanese is like a virtual version of the present which is perfect for the good future and North American reminds me of the New Jack Swing flavour of music. Tie.
*Tidal Tempest (Bad Future)*
Japanese: 8/10
North American: 9/10
The virtual space chase flavour of the Japanese version is good, suitable for the bad future for sure. The North American sounds like a dark mysterious suspenseful flavour, also suitable for bad future. Very close, but slight edge goes to the North American.
My take
Present - JP+US
This is hardly a contest but both played together is like harmony. You have the dripping caverns with the elegant royal treatment decent in the us and mermaid vocals. Its a match in heaven.
Good future - US
It sounds like you are rubbing the salt in eggman's beat up wounds. Meanwhile the JP doesn't do anything impressive.
Bad future - JP
It's perfect!
(Its slightly changed for the Bad Future)
Present: JP
It is cool to listen to and fits a water level perfectly. The US version however doesn’t have that much watery sounds to it.
Good Future: US
Aaaaah... So much better than it’s JP counterpart. The Japanese version is a sad counterpart and shouldn’t be that sad. I mean, it still kinda fits a good future. All of the GFs are really sad. Except for Collision Chaos.
Bad Future: Tie
Both are scary but the US version is less scary. It and the Japanese version both fit perfectly. There’s no winner for this one.
The Good future JP music sounds more heavenly than sad
This was a few years ago, so I wasn’t keen on the exact results. I obviously know that it is heavenly and represents an underwater journey.
how the hell you just said that all of the GF songs are sad?this isn't sad AT ALL!I DON'T GET IT!
I like US’s ost on par with JPN’s ost, but US’s ost is something special
I feel like you should redo these and add how to fix songs that lost or aren’t as good as the present
