One of my favorite parts about animation is how animators animate characters movements with keeping in mind their personality and where there characters is growth/experience wise. Seeing those little nods to the characters personality in how they move is so cool to me.
I like doing that but instead of character growth I do it for the “reveals” in any rp I do that is serious, but sadly it isn’t easily seen or at all lol. They’re just too subtle
I have a theory that Miles is faster than the average Spider-man but his superstrength is a bit below average. He can outrun pretty much everybody but when he punches Miguel it does basically nothing.
I'm so glad you mentioned the frame where Miles was in his first suit from the first film. I noticed it on my first watch but I never saw anyone actually talk about it. I thought it added so much to Miles' thought process in the scene and the overall reveal. I knew the animation was amazing but I love seeing the breakdown of why the production is so effective for this film. I've watched it at least ten times and STILL notice new things. I'm really curious about what you'd have to say about Hobie, especially the Mumbattan scene where they stop the tower from falling. The different styles of the Spider-People, or perhaps the scene right before this one where Miles is being chased by all the Spider-People.
The guy in the car IS an alternate version of someone (im pretty sure). Someone who's a background character, appearing both in the school in the first movie, and on the street in the second movie. Watch the clip of after Gwen gets her hair shaved, his front row who smiles at Miles. Second i think was the scene where his running around looking for a taxi with the cake?
Yeah I’ve seen that guy in the rest of the movie. I don’t think it’s supposed to be too deep, I’m pretty sure they just dressed up one of their incidental background characters, but it’s still fun to see how they can recycle assets and background characters!
@@NoTheRobot Yeah, characters are costly to create a whole design, model and rig for (as you know) so they probably thought it would be easier to reuse a character for couple seconds because its an alternate universe anyway. Just thought id bring it up because as you said that im like "hang on, ive seen him before!"
I literally was thinking I'd watch this for 5-8 minutes since I still gotta finish a drawing. Little did I know I watched the entire thing and didn't even realised I subscribed to your channel while watching lol. Love it
1:13 little story I had no idea about that part of smear frames for the longest time But mine always looked off like you could tell that wasn’t a motion blur thing unpaused until eventually I randomly placed it right and was like wait that looks good and then compared it to the others before figuring it out
I always love seeing your breakdowns because it's good at explaining and teaching while simultaneously geeking out. Definitely helping me understand principles
Spider-Verse inspired me to become an animator 2d (digital Artist) (I’m a spiderverse fan) It’s amazing to see the colors merge and make it into some kind of filter! 5star film! (New sub) Sony is my favorite production team! ❤️💜🔥🔥✌🏾
Very informative, it’s cool to notice now all those intentional details, understand them better, and see how animators use certain effects! Nice video!
I always find it interesting that color pop would be a real eye sore but doesn't bother me at all when I look at the screen Have you consider upload your bionicle vid to youtube? would be cool to watch breakdown of your work
Once we finish the last one in the series I’ll upload them all in one compilation. I’d love to also make a breakdown video like this where I go through my process with each character. So stay tuned!✌️
Such a good breakdown, thank you for video. More of Spider-verse will be great, maybe something from last TMNT or Cartoon Saloon movies, or Blue Eyed Samurai ;)
It took me a short while to notice Toa Matau on the right... as you're doing an essay on one of my all-time favorite films. You earned yourself an immediate subscriber.
The reason why they always draw Miguel's hand like a claw is because he actually has biological claws that grow out from his fingertips perpendicularly! So with the suit over them, his fingers look clenched/triple jointed
Tons of great breakdowns and tips here. Sony has a toolset they've developed for many years called "tweaks" which are a wide variety of sculpting tools to act as layered blend shapes to achieve whatever the animator desires rather than having it implemented into the rigs. On of the biggest things that stands out to me from animators at Sony is their ability to sculpt to rig into abstract and graphic shapes. Always fascinating to see what creative ideas came out of production!
When miles takes a leap of faith I don’t think that he pictured himself doing it and then did it. They’re just showing what’s done in a different order cause maybe comics do the same thing (please correct me if I’m wrong about this). In the first movie something similar happens where miles is about to take his leap of faith the movie cuts back and forth between this and getting his new web shooters and spider suit. And when flashing back or forward in the sequel, black and white drawings are shown meaning that things aren’t cannon since it’s part of an incomplete comic book/thought. When you remember the past you will recall the highlights better than you can the details making it technically non cannon. When foreshadowing things also aren’t cannon cause it didn’t happen yet so why show it in full color when nothing is official?
Spider-Man: Acros the Spider-Verse is one of my ABSOLUTE favourite films (I watched it a BILLION times on Netflix - so sad it's gone). The animation is simply breathtaking! Every second pops with colour. Also, could you please do a video on Arcane: League of Legends (the animation is STUNNING) and The Dragon Prince (visually, it has quite a unique animation style)?
seriously bro! i am waiting for every video of u just by looking that a notification popup of u i just eagerly play the video. bcz, i know that it would be amazing to watch ur breakdowns and i am watching since u started indeed you didn't disappoint me since then. I love your videos! I'm obsessed with both Spider-Verse movies so I'd be thrilled with anything you do. I do think an analysis of Spider-Punk would be amazing. I'm curious--as an animator, do you think Across the Spider-Verse should have won the best animated film Oscar? It seems so technically superior to all others that I was shocked it didn't win.
I thought Across the Spider-Verse was so impressive, but The Boy and The Heron really had a meditative & captivating story along with incredible hand drawn animation. I think the Academy made the right call here. But both are beautiful films in their own way!
do you think you would be able to do a video on roblox animation on blender? really anything i just want to see a video of your thoughts or whatever on it i think it would be interesting
It’s called syncsketch! It runs through a browser so you can upload your files and view them in sync across devices. That’s how I’m able to screen-record on a different computer. Plus the annotation features are so incredibly helpful!
I would love to get your take on some of the animations of the late Monty Oum, of RoosterTeeth fame. it’s truly incredible what he was able to accomplish as a single animator and he definitely inspired me to pursue this field
I don't know if you've seen this one or not... but I'd LOVE if you could give the animation of PROMARE's opening fight scene (between Lio and Galo) the same attention and analysis that you did with these.

I have a theory that Miles is faster than the average Spider-man but his superstrength is a bit below average. He can outrun pretty much everybody but when he punches Miguel it does basically nothing.
His only solution tho- is to infuse his fists with his electricity so it adds more damage to his punch than normally does
And why is he fast? 🤨🤨

It feels a little like retrofuturism meets cyberpunk
