@Old Age ty, gonna check his channel as well... I also like Console Wars, they have great reviews and there's always some funny story before they compare SNES and Genesis versions of games... If u like Console Wars, also check Gamesack, which is kind of like CW but with older (but also funny) guys, gotta love their reviews... There's also SNES Drunk, the guy scavenges for SNES games, well known or not, and gives his most faithful opinion about them, it's great.
That's what gets me about a lot of people banging on about the Dreamcast now. If you go on the Internet then it seems everyone had one. How many of those people actually owned one and how many jumped on the bandwagon? Same with Wii U. I got mine in 2013 and supported it all the way to its end, and defended it to the hilt when it's reputation was poor. What's the chance in 10 years it'll be regarded as a classic and that it should have been a success? Sega Lord X is good because he actually played the games and systems he makes videos on, and doesn't jump on bandwagons
I didn't have both growing up, but for the last 23 years I have for sure. Even built up a nice library for both, to me a nice balance for both 16 bit powerhouses.
I was a huge Nintendo fan growing up, and now am starting to explore the Genesis games I missed. I love the usual suspects like the Sonic games and the Konami games, but the Genesis has a ton of gems too like The Ooze and so many amazing space shooters.
I can't pick a fav. At the time Snes was my fav with Genesis a close second. As I've aged, they both have their strengths and I wouldn't want a world without either.
All great games! I will say though, as cool as Marvel Super Heroes is, I definitely prefer X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse, I think it plays better and has a far superior soundtrack, definitely my favorite 16-bit X-Men game.
Mutant Apocalypse has better level design because each level is catered towards a specific character's move set. I like War of the Gems but the level design is pretty bland.
@@Matt-Rat Yeah it's weird it seems like originally they were just going to call it Ninja warriors return then they changed it to return of the Ninja saviors. Either way it's cool it's also completely uncut which the original SNES version definitely was not.

In that generation it was really worth owning all systems, in the most recent generations Sony and Microsoft's systems have a mostly identical catalog with a some exclusives for each system. With Megadrive and Super Nintendo it was very dificult to find identical games (besides graphical and sound differences).
yup it's all crap these days....i mean there's quality out there for sure...but the games just are'nt special anymore....and there are'nt enough special AAA exclusives....
@@celeste1324 Shoot, some of the best games these days are just remakes of 20+ year old games which says a lot. Most of the remakes are great, but still.
Good List. I took Sega Lord's X's recommendation for The Ninja Warriors and Metal Warriors and gave them a shot. Actually they both were a pleasant surprise. I'm like Sega Lord X, I missed these games when they came out. By late 94 I was focused on the Sega Saturn so I let cartridge games fly by w/o much notice, but I really miss these old 16 bit games, and I've been making it a point to watch channels like this to find some hidden gems and play them either by actual hardware or download.
I have to add Capcom's King of Dragons to this list. It is a near-perfect arcade port only available on the SNES, and it especially works well as a co-op game. The only minor problem with the SNES port is that it's for up to 2 players instead of 4.
@@johndewberryiii9925 there are so many great beat ‘em ups on the SNES. Batman Returns, Sonic Blastman 2, Final Fight 3, Captain Commando. Even Super Double Dragon is well done. But I haven’t yet played through Streets of Rage, and hopefully I can make some time this weekend.

Rival turf was alright lol final fight 3 for sure I never played sonic blastman I gotta check that out. Streets of rage is a dope series. My personal fav is the 2nd game the soundtrack is live

Im so glad that you mentioned the differences between The Peace Keepers and Rushing Beat Shura. I recently played the Nintendo Switch Online version of The Peace Keepers and I thought, why the hell is the music cut out in most areas? Ill check out the japanese version. It's so cool that's possible to add more Games to the "Mini-Consoles"... I own the SNES mini with more Games - also Games from Megadrive, Game Boy, Turbografx 16 and some MAME-Arcade-Emulations, what's really amazing! Nice, i love this System!
I was fortunate enough to own both systems. My parents bought me Genesis Christmas of ‘91, and the following summer I got my first part time job. Thus, I was able to afford an SNES w/Street Fighter II in Christmas of ‘92. Man, I had so much fun during the 16-bit wars!
I feel like I've been playing that isometric racing game in some form or another for a good while. There was a game called Racing Destruction Set for the early 8 bit computers, Atari 800, C-64/128. It was cool game for its time, plenty of vehicle options, you could make you own tracks, complete with alternate gravity, and it even had split screen 2 player.
I love how you can smoothly turn a discussion of a couple video games into a true and honest life lesson, to never let anyone else's opinion spoil your fun with the things you love. Thank you for that, and thank you for sharing your opinion about some games you enjoy.
Good to see SNES recommendations from a SEGA fan, you simply know they'll be good games to play! I was a MEGA DRIVE owner when I was a kid and never had a SNES until now, so I'm slowly appreciating everything it has to offer :)
What I liked about Super Bonk isn't only the variety of environments but also the fact that each segment has a specific name. For some reason it was really fun to check out what the area you're in is called.
Got my Genesis at 5 years old in 1993, I had it until 97. Some of the best years of my life, I was the only one of my friends that had a genesis. The rest of them had a SNES so I enjoyed going to there house to play it, and vice versa. In 97 I got a PS1 and my best friend had a N64 we had alot of fun then too. I miss the 90s!!!!!!!
You got the better end of tht one gettin a PS1 lol the 64 was my last Nintendo System too many kiddie games which were still fun but I was in my early teens so I wanted Resident Evil.
I was mostly a sega genesis fan growing up, but the last 5 yrs really got me into the super nes. Im also lucky enough to have a lot of Japanese titles translated to English, namely the fire emblem series. Awsome you mentioned the ninja warriors x, a personal fav of mine for many yrs
great video as always! i always like the Sega Genesis more than the Super Nintendo but i enjoy the snes aswell, for Sega fans i recommend two games of snes to play -Shin Nekketsu Kouha Kunio Kun Tachi No Banka (is part of River City Ransom saga) -Super Fire Pro Wrestling x Premium and for the snes fans i recommend the probably best fighting game of the 16-bit the great Yu Yu Hakusho Makyo Toitsusen made by Treasure, even if you dont like much the anime serie, this game is amazing and support battle royal between 4 player, i hope Sega Lord X talk about this game sometime.

Another great thing about the 90s, you could actually afford to have BOTH systems and the games came as they were, no updates, no patches. You got to experience the best of both Worlds!
or you had a friend/family member with the other system and so long as you weren't caught up in the console war BS, it made for a great reason to hang out and spend time together.
@@TKDBoy1889 was just about to say that. Either they had it or you brought it over and was like " check this out". Can do it today still but most modern games are on both systems and play the same. Try bringing that Aladdin SNES to a Sega Genesis owner....that'll show em somethin.
Hi SLX, regarding Porky's Pig Haunted Holiday it's main selling point on release was that the graphics changed slightly every time you turned on your console, sometimes it was winter sometimes it was autumn sometimes it was raining, that's pretty much the thing it is remembered for Great video as always btw, I remember seeing some of these games in magazines but didn't give them much attention at the time, it was only through emulation years later I discovered how cool some of them are
Also Marvel Super Heroes runs on the same engine as X-Men Mutant Apocalypse also on the super nintendo and maybe should be considered a sequel - Wolverine is even a playable character on both, and he controls exactly the same- so if you enjoyed this you'll enjoy Mutant Apocalypse as well
You mean a hacked SNES classic? Couldnt really hack an SNES being a cartridge based system other than reverse engineer cartridges for it like all the repro carts out there or unlicensed carts. Chrono Trigger is also one of my favorite games of all time, still remember seeing it going for like $20 in a bargain bin at Walmart over 20 years ago now that game is going for $200 at my local retro game store. How times have changed indeed....

@@dimitrisbam5640 if you ever do someday get a chance to play even repro carts of those games on an original working SNES on a crt television it truly is magical, dont have an snes classic as i prefer original hardware but admit I paid about $80 for my refurbished SNES a few years ago.
Ninja Warriors imo is the best beat em up on the system (the uncut Japanese version that is). Fantastic game, and there's some cool special moves that are fun to learn as well from a gamefaqs or manual. Hagane is the only game competitive with the mighty Shinobi 3 on the Snes as well imo, excellent action platformer. I think Shinobi 3 still wins by a bit but it's close.

Great vid! I always love seeing Metal Warriors get some love. Between the SNES and the Genesis, the 16-bit era was a great time to be a gamer, especially because the platforms each offered something so unique.
Fun fact: The Ninjawarriors's japanese version (The Ninjawarriors Again) is not only all in english, it has blood. Green blood. But there's also a patch to make it red, so hurray for uncensoring.
definitive version of the game for sure.. until someone adds co-op and an MSU-1 patch to bring in some weird and wonderful Zuntata tunes, to complete the package ^-^

There is no reason to get worked up too much if some one doesn't like a game you do or you don't like a game they do. It's fine not everyone is going to have the same taste, hell I clearly very different taste than Sega Lord X but it's still interesting to hear that other perspective and maybe hear about games I never knew about.
I rotated between Sonic (Genesis), Mario (Super Nintendo), and Bonk (TurboGrafix 16). All had great games and I love seeing these videos that highlight games that I may have never played.
This is why I like this guys videos, he's not 1 sided at all. Sure, Sega is his first love, but he loves great video games above anything else, the way it should be. The 16 bit era truly was a magical time, and today's consoles aren't different enough to be looked up fondly in 20-30 years from now.
Some fascinating choices, only heard of a couple of these but I can definitely understand why you chose them just by watching! In terms of fun action games/platformers I can recommend looking into if you decide to another one of these: Wild Guns - Fast paced and somewhat chaotic shooter in a 'western with robots' setting, hard as hell but so much fun. Knights of the Round - Solid side scrolling beat 'em up based loosely on king arthur. Demon's Crest - A gothic fantasy sidescrolling platform game featuring a demonic main character that unlocks different forms that all play differently for platforming/combat/ Super Castlevania IV - The best 'Classic' style Castlevania game IMHO, it's a lot of fun with a level of control not seen before or since, but this can make the game a bit on the easier side.
I'd love to see a video from you covering modern retro inspired games. Games like Shovel Knight, The Messenger, Bloodstained, Blazing Chrome and others. I love some of these newer games and they pay great homage to the classics while providing something new and inventive.
Id throw Big Sky Troopers, Darius Twin, Super Nova and Ken Griffey Baseball in. Genesis is my number 1 system but SNES is right up there. Best generation imo. Exclusives and so often multiplats were completely different from one system to another.
Well you see, a lot of kids back then couldn't own more than one system. My own parents only let me have a Sega Genesis at first, and that was it. I wasn't allowed to own an SNES until 1994. I'm glad they finally caved, though. The SNES library is massive and stellar.
Metal warriors is such an underrated game man ... nostalgia may be a factor for me, but the multiplayer battle mode was soooo much f*cking fun .. me and my brother played the hell out of that game
Natsume were probably the best developers on the SNES. Wild Guns, Pocky and Rocky, Harvest Moon, Gekisou Sentai Carranger, all the various Power Rangers games, all of them excellent in every aspect.
I didn't appreciate them at the time, but Natsume has become one of my favorite developers of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. Lots of excellent stuff. Good to see others who share that view.
Being a Super Nintendo guy, I never once regretted not having a Genesis. My buddy had one that we played games on quite often and I just never could get into it. That said, The one system I regret never buying was the Sega Master System. A few of my friends had them and we played all sorts of games on them. When they brought out the Genesis Mini last year I said to myself, "I wish they had gone with the Sega Master System Mini first." I would've paid a good price for one of those.
As a die-hard SEGA fan, I refused the SNES... until I saw that we weren't getting the amazing Super Star Wars on the Genny. Buying an SNES for Super Star Wars and its trilogy alone, and then since having the SNES I bought several SNES heavy hitters after that and still have them all CIB. I guess it eventually paid well being a collector in both worlds.
I didnt know about most of these entries but the Porky Pig game reminded me of Road Runner Death Valley Rally. Each stage plays out like an episode of the cartoon with you as the road runner and W. E. Coyote trying to take you down with a actual device from the cartoons (acme flying bat suit anyone). Once you reach the goal, you see a short of the device doing W. E. Coyote in. 4th level of each stage was a giant machine you had to beat with a similar comic ending for success. Great time.
This was a great list of games, Sega Lord! I went on eBay earlier today to see about ordering a copy of "The Ninja Warriors" for my SNES. I just can't justify paying that much for a single cartridge. Luckily, I added it to my SNES mini, because I won't be playing it on original hardware unless I can find a much better deal.
@@danielzelpher7335 yes! The Cable should be longer! This is the only Difference what I can tell between the Original-Console and the SNES mini... Some People said there are also slightly (positive!) Differences in Sound and Music but I don't regognize some of them!

Might I recommend the Super Star Wars trilogy? Empire and Return being the more polished games compared to the first though. They're very arcade like action platformers/ brawlers, and are some very fine games, that appeal to those wanting some who likes that sort of thing and are quality games at that.
I love how this channel covers all the good stuff not just SEGA. I mean any kid who could have BOTH consoles was fortunate for sure, but it's great to experience both now that so much time has passed. The downside of course is who has time to play though all those games? LOL I seriously don't know if I'll ever have time to really experience the SNES library before I die, there's just too much good stuff out there, most of it free or nearly free.
I've never understood fanboyism back then and i still don't. As a kid i only looked to the games i wanted to play and didn't bother with so called 'system superiority'. SEGA had awesome games and so did Nintendo, the 16-bit era was a golden age of gaming for me and these systems will always hold a special place in my memories!
It's like football teams, you kinda feel that you are a part of the group and have to defend your group and attack the other. It is bs but it is inside human hardware, you must be conscious of it to be able to get out.
In a sense, my parents divorcing was good for child me and gaming. My mother got me a Genesis at launch, and my father got me a SNES. I never understood the hate for either system from my friends when they came over, as some would refuse to play one system or the other. The speech in the first 90 seconds of your video were my thoughts as a kid almost exactly, I just didn't get my friends arguing, or not wanting to play good games just because they were on a different console to what they preferred. This is a great subject for a video. As someone who prefers the Genesis as well, I actually had a hard time with some of the SNES library, as a lot of the highly-regarded games just don't appeal to me for one reason or another. My appreciation for the SNES comes from games like those you've shown here. You've covered many of my favorites, including Bonk(and its Japanese-only sequel), Run Saber, Metal Warriors, and Ninja Warriors(one of my all-time favorites on the system). Here are several others that I like which could be nice for another video on this topic, which I'd love to see: Pocky & Rocky 1 & 2, Macross Scrambled Valkyrie, and Mazinger Z(it didn't make the strongest first impression on me, but I was having so much fun with it and it really grew on me). And last bit, for anyone who appreciates the legendary heavy metal band Judas Priest(and I'm a big fan) someone pointed out to me that the music for the first track in Biker Mice from Mars is basically a rearranged rendition of Riding on the Wind, which is pretty cool to me.
Definitely cool to hear those Ninja Warrior sounds, immediately reminds me of the power ranger games they developed on snes. You can hear those similarities in Wild Guns too. Great vid as always, so important to let the games shine as you do!
Great run through. My friend and I rent Metal Warriors so many times from Blockbuster that they asked if we just wanted it. We never played story mode. To this day. ;lol
Played lots of these when they came out. Rented Ninja Warriors a bunch of times and bought the remake as well, Run Saber was also a lot of fun too. Can't forget the nights spent on death match in Metal Warriors as well, the fights were tense depending on the map and mech.
Amen, I was that fanboy on the SNES side, but I got over the 16-bit rivalry and thank goodness I did, I discovered so many all-time favourites from Sega over the years. There are mountains of counterparts to Genesis classics on the SNES that Sega fans would dig: Space Mega Force is the follow-up to M.U.S.H.A., and absolutely smashes any expectations one might have of what the SNES was capable of in a shooter. Super Adventure Island has fantastic music by Yuzo Koshiro, and is an evolution of the OG Wonder Boy formula. Cybernator is the follow up to Assault Suit Leynos published by Konami, and is a big improvement. The Top Gear series is very Outrun-esque, and made by Gremlin, the same team who did the Lotus games on Genesis. Joe & Mac appeared on the Genesis, but had two sequels that only showed up on the SNES & would have been right at home on Sega's system. I could go on & on.
I grew up as a Sega kid and had pretty heated arguments with my cousins back then about it (they had a SNES and were pretty snobbish about it, too, as if the Mega Drive were a poor man's choice into 16-bit gaming). I guess a lot of the bad blood that came about between systems was due to poor porting on either end, often enough, and this led to perceived hardware weaknesses that, when existent, were exacerbated and more fuel was added to the fire. The fact of the matter is that both machines were (and still are) very important and loved by many, and that's how they should be thought about and remembered. Out of these games shown here, I think Hagane both looks and plays the most impressively: it is a very even match for the wonderful Shinobi 3.

Crystal Beans from Dungeon Explorer is a Super Famicom title that deserves some love. It expands on the great gameplay of the TurboGrafx 16 originals, while having some of the best 16-bit music ever.

I liked all game systems because all my cousins had different systems from me. Playing different video game systems made me realize that each system had its own fun and I wanted to have fun no matter what I played. Console wars were silly to me if I could play it and have fun I'm good! Great Video and Great Content SLX!
Lots of those games I grew up with, and they are awesome I agree. Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and Super Nintendo are both equally amazing machines, so many iconic games for both of them. A shame Sega had to go off the way they did. Oh well.
I love your lists of games for non-SEGA consoles. There's always something new and cool that I haven't heard of, as opposed to the same list of Marios and Zeldas in slighty different order that most other channels have.
I'll admit, I was a total Sega fanboy back in the 90s, you couldn't tell me nothing! But as I gotten older, I realized how many great games I missed out on, especially games like Super Metroid (I'm a big fan of the IP, since playing the original on Nintendo before getting my Genesis). I've been playing catch up via emulators lately, and it's been an incredible ride! And about 2-3 years ago, I bought a used SNES and a few games for it too!
I'm a Mega Drive fan myself, but bought a Switch recently. Now I can play through great SNES classics on it I missed in my youth, especially Super Mario World 1 & 2, the Donkey Kong Country games and Zelda: A Link To The Past.
I was a lot like you. Had every console, some I do have more fondness for, but a love for them all. Most of my friends where Nintendo fan boys but when they came over they were surprised what sega and Amiga has to offer. Even one of my friends finally decided that sega had something when he saw virtua fighter 2 on the Saturn.

As much as I love my Sega Genesis, I jumped on the SNES in 1993 when it dropped down to $99. No regrets.

I can't pick a fav. At the time Snes was my fav with Genesis a close second. As I've aged, they both have their strengths and I wouldn't want a world without either.
I had Sega growing up but I always loved Chrono Trigger.

All great games! I will say though, as cool as Marvel Super Heroes is, I definitely prefer X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse, I think it plays better and has a far superior soundtrack, definitely my favorite 16-bit X-Men game.
Mutant Apocalypse has better level design because each level is catered towards a specific character's move set. I like War of the Gems but the level design is pretty bland.
Ninja Warriors is so underrated. Good thing they remade it and re-released it on PS4

Yeah it's weird it seems like originally they were just going to call it Ninja warriors return then they changed it to return of the Ninja saviors. Either way it's cool it's also completely uncut which the original SNES version definitely was not.

In that generation it was really worth owning all systems, in the most recent generations Sony and Microsoft's systems have a mostly identical catalog with a some exclusives for each system. With Megadrive and Super Nintendo it was very dificult to find identical games (besides graphical and sound differences).
yup it's all crap these days....i mean there's quality out there for sure...but the games just are'nt special anymore....and there are'nt enough special AAA exclusives....
I miss the different versions of a game on systems. Like shadowrun, robocop vs terminator, aladdin, x-men, sparkster, etc. That was awesome!
There were a few games that were mostly the same on both systems, but yeah. In general, they each had a very different library.

Good List. I took Sega Lord's X's recommendation for The Ninja Warriors and Metal Warriors and gave them a shot. Actually they both were a pleasant surprise. I'm like Sega Lord X, I missed these games when they came out. By late 94 I was focused on the Sega Saturn so I let cartridge games fly by w/o much notice, but I really miss these old 16 bit games, and I've been making it a point to watch channels like this to find some hidden gems and play them either by actual hardware or download.
I have to add Capcom's King of Dragons to this list. It is a near-perfect arcade port only available on the SNES, and it especially works well as a co-op game. The only minor problem with the SNES port is that it's for up to 2 players instead of 4.

I was fortunate enough to own both systems. My parents bought me Genesis Christmas of ‘91, and the following summer I got my first part time job. Thus, I was able to afford an SNES w/Street Fighter II in Christmas of ‘92. Man, I had so much fun during the 16-bit wars!
I feel like I've been playing that isometric racing game in some form or another for a good while.
There was a game called Racing Destruction Set for the early 8 bit computers, Atari 800, C-64/128. It was cool game for its time, plenty of vehicle options, you could make you own tracks, complete with alternate gravity, and it even had split screen 2 player.
I love how you can smoothly turn a discussion of a couple video games into a true and honest life lesson, to never let anyone else's opinion spoil your fun with the things you love. Thank you for that, and thank you for sharing your opinion about some games you enjoy.
Good to see SNES recommendations from a SEGA fan, you simply know they'll be good games to play! I was a MEGA DRIVE owner when I was a kid and never had a SNES until now, so I'm slowly appreciating everything it has to offer :)
What I liked about Super Bonk isn't only the variety of environments but also the fact that each segment has a specific name. For some reason it was really fun to check out what the area you're in is called.
Got my Genesis at 5 years old in 1993, I had it until 97. Some of the best years of my life, I was the only one of my friends that had a genesis. The rest of them had a SNES so I enjoyed going to there house to play it, and vice versa. In 97 I got a PS1 and my best friend had a N64 we had alot of fun then too. I miss the 90s!!!!!!!
You got the better end of tht one gettin a PS1 lol the 64 was my last Nintendo System too many kiddie games which were still fun but I was in my early teens so I wanted Resident Evil.

I was mostly a sega genesis fan growing up, but the last 5 yrs really got me into the super nes. Im also lucky enough to have a lot of Japanese titles translated to English, namely the fire emblem series. Awsome you mentioned the ninja warriors x, a personal fav of mine for many yrs

and for the snes fans i recommend the probably best fighting game of the 16-bit the great Yu Yu Hakusho Makyo Toitsusen made by Treasure, even if you dont like much the anime serie, this game is amazing and support battle royal between 4 player, i hope Sega Lord X talk about this game sometime.

Another great thing about the 90s, you could actually afford to have BOTH systems and the games came as they were, no updates, no patches. You got to experience the best of both Worlds!

Hi SLX, regarding Porky's Pig Haunted Holiday it's main selling point on release was that the graphics changed slightly every time you turned on your console, sometimes it was winter sometimes it was autumn sometimes it was raining, that's pretty much the thing it is remembered for

Also Marvel Super Heroes runs on the same engine as X-Men Mutant Apocalypse also on the super nintendo and maybe should be considered a sequel - Wolverine is even a playable character on both, and he controls exactly the same- so if you enjoyed this you'll enjoy Mutant Apocalypse as well

You mean a hacked SNES classic? Couldnt really hack an SNES being a cartridge based system other than reverse engineer cartridges for it like all the repro carts out there or unlicensed carts. Chrono Trigger is also one of my favorite games of all time, still remember seeing it going for like $20 in a bargain bin at Walmart over 20 years ago now that game is going for $200 at my local retro game store. How times have changed indeed....

Ninja Warriors imo is the best beat em up on the system (the uncut Japanese version that is). Fantastic game, and there's some cool special moves that are fun to learn as well from a gamefaqs or manual. Hagane is the only game competitive with the mighty Shinobi 3 on the Snes as well imo, excellent action platformer. I think Shinobi 3 still wins by a bit but it's close.
I had a Genesis in early 89, got the SNES in 94. Played most of the games via rental or game swap!
I got my snes late too. 95 for myself. 70$ 2 controllers ,super metroid, a link to the past, and super punch out.

definitive version of the game for sure.. until someone adds co-op and an MSU-1 patch to bring in some weird and wonderful Zuntata tunes, to complete the package ^-^

The most wonderful and obscure SNES game that I know of is X-Kalibur 2097. I rented the crap out of that game.

There is no reason to get worked up too much if some one doesn't like a game you do or you don't like a game they do. It's fine not everyone is going to have the same taste, hell I clearly very different taste than Sega Lord X but it's still interesting to hear that other perspective and maybe hear about games I never knew about.

I rotated between Sonic (Genesis), Mario (Super Nintendo), and Bonk (TurboGrafix 16). All had great games and I love seeing these videos that highlight games that I may have never played.
It's nice to see run saber get some love! I used to rent this from my local video store on repeat as a kid and now proudly own it loose. 😁
This is why I like this guys videos, he's not 1 sided at all. Sure, Sega is his first love, but he loves great video games above anything else, the way it should be. The 16 bit era truly was a magical time, and today's consoles aren't different enough to be looked up fondly in 20-30 years from now.
Some fascinating choices, only heard of a couple of these but I can definitely understand why you chose them just by watching!
In terms of fun action games/platformers I can recommend looking into if you decide to another one of these:
Wild Guns - Fast paced and somewhat chaotic shooter in a 'western with robots' setting, hard as hell but so much fun.
Knights of the Round - Solid side scrolling beat 'em up based loosely on king arthur.
Demon's Crest - A gothic fantasy sidescrolling platform game featuring a demonic main character that unlocks different forms that all play differently for platforming/combat/
Super Castlevania IV - The best 'Classic' style Castlevania game IMHO, it's a lot of fun with a level of control not seen before or since, but this can make the game a bit on the easier side.
I'd love to see a video from you covering modern retro inspired games. Games like Shovel Knight, The Messenger, Bloodstained, Blazing Chrome and others. I love some of these newer games and they pay great homage to the classics while providing something new and inventive.
Id throw Big Sky Troopers, Darius Twin, Super Nova and Ken Griffey Baseball in. Genesis is my number 1 system but SNES is right up there. Best generation imo. Exclusives and so often multiplats were completely different from one system to another.
Well you see, a lot of kids back then couldn't own more than one system. My own parents only let me have a Sega Genesis at first, and that was it. I wasn't allowed to own an SNES until 1994. I'm glad they finally caved, though. The SNES library is massive and stellar.

Natsume were probably the best developers on the SNES. Wild Guns, Pocky and Rocky, Harvest Moon, Gekisou Sentai Carranger, all the various Power Rangers games, all of them excellent in every aspect.
I didn't appreciate them at the time, but Natsume has become one of my favorite developers of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. Lots of excellent stuff. Good to see others who share that view.
Being a Super Nintendo guy, I never once regretted not having a Genesis. My buddy had one that we played games on quite often and I just never could get into it. That said, The one system I regret never buying was the Sega Master System. A few of my friends had them and we played all sorts of games on them. When they brought out the Genesis Mini last year I said to myself, "I wish they had gone with the Sega Master System Mini first." I would've paid a good price for one of those.
As a die-hard SEGA fan, I refused the SNES... until I saw that we weren't getting the amazing Super Star Wars on the Genny. Buying an SNES for Super Star Wars and its trilogy alone, and then since having the SNES I bought several SNES heavy hitters after that and still have them all CIB. I guess it eventually paid well being a collector in both worlds.
17:43 the way the character looks and stands, combined with the animation and knocking the guy back, makes it look like he cut a mean fart.
I didnt know about most of these entries but the Porky Pig game reminded me of Road Runner Death Valley Rally. Each stage plays out like an episode of the cartoon with you as the road runner and W. E. Coyote trying to take you down with a actual device from the cartoons (acme flying bat suit anyone). Once you reach the goal, you see a short of the device doing W. E. Coyote in. 4th level of each stage was a giant machine you had to beat with a similar comic ending for success. Great time.

This was a great list of games, Sega Lord! I went on eBay earlier today to see about ordering a copy of "The Ninja Warriors" for my SNES. I just can't justify paying that much for a single cartridge. Luckily, I added it to my SNES mini, because I won't be playing it on original hardware unless I can find a much better deal.
Why? There is no real Difference between SNES mini and Original SNES!
jp version is probably cheaper, and is uncensored. its the best version of this game, well worth picking up if you can find a decent price.

Might I recommend the Super Star Wars trilogy? Empire and Return being the more polished games compared to the first though. They're very arcade like action platformers/ brawlers, and are some very fine games, that appeal to those wanting some who likes that sort of thing and are quality games at that.
I love how this channel covers all the good stuff not just SEGA.
I mean any kid who could have BOTH consoles was fortunate for sure, but it's great to experience both now that so much time has passed.
The downside of course is who has time to play though all those games? LOL
I seriously don't know if I'll ever have time to really experience the SNES library before I die, there's just too much good stuff out there, most of it free or nearly free.

It's like football teams, you kinda feel that you are a part of the group and have to defend your group and attack the other. It is bs but it is inside human hardware, you must be conscious of it to be able to get out.

In a sense, my parents divorcing was good for child me and gaming. My mother got me a Genesis at launch, and my father got me a SNES. I never understood the hate for either system from my friends when they came over, as some would refuse to play one system or the other. The speech in the first 90 seconds of your video were my thoughts as a kid almost exactly, I just didn't get my friends arguing, or not wanting to play good games just because they were on a different console to what they preferred. This is a great subject for a video. As someone who prefers the Genesis as well, I actually had a hard time with some of the SNES library, as a lot of the highly-regarded games just don't appeal to me for one reason or another. My appreciation for the SNES comes from games like those you've shown here. You've covered many of my favorites, including Bonk(and its Japanese-only sequel), Run Saber, Metal Warriors, and Ninja Warriors(one of my all-time favorites on the system). Here are several others that I like which could be nice for another video on this topic, which I'd love to see: Pocky & Rocky 1 & 2, Macross Scrambled Valkyrie, and Mazinger Z(it didn't make the strongest first impression on me, but I was having so much fun with it and it really grew on me). And last bit, for anyone who appreciates the legendary heavy metal band Judas Priest(and I'm a big fan) someone pointed out to me that the music for the first track in Biker Mice from Mars is basically a rearranged rendition of Riding on the Wind, which is pretty cool to me.

Played lots of these when they came out. Rented Ninja Warriors a bunch of times and bought the remake as well, Run Saber was also a lot of fun too.
Can't forget the nights spent on death match in Metal Warriors as well, the fights were tense depending on the map and mech.
Amen, I was that fanboy on the SNES side, but I got over the 16-bit rivalry and thank goodness I did, I discovered so many all-time favourites from Sega over the years. There are mountains of counterparts to Genesis classics on the SNES that Sega fans would dig: Space Mega Force is the follow-up to M.U.S.H.A., and absolutely smashes any expectations one might have of what the SNES was capable of in a shooter. Super Adventure Island has fantastic music by Yuzo Koshiro, and is an evolution of the OG Wonder Boy formula. Cybernator is the follow up to Assault Suit Leynos published by Konami, and is a big improvement. The Top Gear series is very Outrun-esque, and made by Gremlin, the same team who did the Lotus games on Genesis. Joe & Mac appeared on the Genesis, but had two sequels that only showed up on the SNES & would have been right at home on Sega's system. I could go on & on.
I grew up as a Sega kid and had pretty heated arguments with my cousins back then about it (they had a SNES and were pretty snobbish about it, too, as if the Mega Drive were a poor man's choice into 16-bit gaming). I guess a lot of the bad blood that came about between systems was due to poor porting on either end, often enough, and this led to perceived hardware weaknesses that, when existent, were exacerbated and more fuel was added to the fire.
The fact of the matter is that both machines were (and still are) very important and loved by many, and that's how they should be thought about and remembered.
Out of these games shown here, I think Hagane both looks and plays the most impressively: it is a very even match for the wonderful Shinobi 3.

Crystal Beans from Dungeon Explorer is a Super Famicom title that deserves some love. It expands on the great gameplay of the TurboGrafx 16 originals, while having some of the best 16-bit music ever.

Playing different video game systems made me realize that each system had its own fun and I wanted to have fun no matter what I played. Lots of those games I grew up with, and they are awesome I agree. Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and Super Nintendo are both equally amazing machines, so many iconic games for both of them. A shame Sega had to go off the way they did. Oh well.
Great channel. AVGN is the Godfather of these channels, but this is up there with SNES Drunk, my personal favorite. Awesome!!
I love your lists of games for non-SEGA consoles. There's always something new and cool that I haven't heard of, as opposed to the same list of Marios and Zeldas in slighty different order that most other channels have.
At this point, I don't think of SNES or Genesis. They both complement each other in what was a golden age of console gaming.
I'll admit, I was a total Sega fanboy back in the 90s, you couldn't tell me nothing! But as I gotten older, I realized how many great games I missed out on, especially games like Super Metroid (I'm a big fan of the IP, since playing the original on Nintendo before getting my Genesis). I've been playing catch up via emulators lately, and it's been an incredible ride! And about 2-3 years ago, I bought a used SNES and a few games for it too!
I'm a Mega Drive fan myself, but bought a Switch recently. Now I can play through great SNES classics on it I missed in my youth, especially Super Mario World 1 & 2, the Donkey Kong Country games and Zelda: A Link To The Past.
I was a lot like you.
Had every console, some I do have more fondness for, but a love for them all.
Most of my friends where Nintendo fan boys but when they came over they were surprised what sega and Amiga has to offer.
Even one of my friends finally decided that sega had something when he saw virtua fighter 2 on the Saturn.
@13:28 Marvel Super Heroes in War of the Gems, *and* its predecessoe X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse were very good games. If they had only had some form of multiplayer, they'd have been great, maybe the best 16-bit superhero games.
