I wish the best for Marty,
which is that he will be
    converted to the Gospel
    rather than a 'restoration'
    to his own understanding
    or the sentiment of his
    'fans'. One cannot
    return to a faith
    they have
    never had,
    The music of Marty
    Samson is NOT evidence
    of his conversion to Christ
or being born of the Spirit.
Do not pray for his 'recovery'.
    He would simply be
    recovering to Marty
    rather than being
    transforrmed to
    a new man!
Pray that he is converted, his
sin forgiven, that he is born
    of the Spirit and ransomed
    from eternal damnation.
HE NEEDS TO COME TO THE BEGINNING. HE HAS NOT YET BEEN THERE. 'TODAY IS
    THE DAY OF SALVATION' .

I agree that he needs to be transformed, but I disagree (& believe it to be presumptuous) that he never had an authentic relationship w/ Christ. I sincerely doubt you know Mart personally, & therefore it would stand to reason you possess an absence of hard & irrefutable evidence to that which you ascertain in your comment

Marty's departure from the Christian faith (2019) is an indicator and a warning for all of us. 2 Cor.13:5, "Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?-unless indeed you fail to meet the test!" (ESV) You can have all the externals without a heart-transformation. AND the Hillsong Church can have a man writing songs for them who was not properly discipled in the faith. SAD!

    • @YahwehisGlory

People who go " don't judge, why are you condemning" etc really do need prayers. What is judging in what this man wrote. There's no how you can be called a Gospel minister and you go the way this young man goes. You write songs that blesses others but you aren't blessed. Oh! Deliver us from our folly oh God. We have doubts sometimes, but this is what Paul told Timothy almost in all his letters, hold on to the Faith, fight for it,keep the doctrine, teach faithful men, that in the last days men will turn away from The Gospel that saves and seek high philosophies that can't save even a mice. Even our Lord Jesus said in Matt 24:12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. If what you sing about can't keep you on your knees when things like this come, then what do you sing about? It's a pity for those who think speaking the truth is judging, it's a real pity. Fix your eyes upon Christ. Selah

This song sounds great and I'm glad to see Matt and Marty writing a song together again because they are so talented. Unfortunately, this one has some important issues theologically speaking, and I feel compelled to make a comment on it as this song is about to be sung in many churches in the world.
    1. About the Holy Spirit: Even though Matt's explanation with Acts 2 seems justified, we must redefine the context: these words were the fulfillment of Joel 2 for this particular moment (Pentecost). The Holy Spirit and His gifts came down in this place (the upper room) like Jesus told to His disciples before He ascended to heavens. It's no longer applicable right now.
    2. "Dreams and visions of the Son, as I stand in Your presence": this is pretty strange. Today, we just can't have dreams or visions of Jesus. He is beside God the Father interceding for us. His face will be on display again when He comes to take back His Church. Of course, we can feel Him through His holy Spirit when we choose to follow Him but like the wind, we neither can't see Him nor dream about Him.
So all the visions and dreams of Jesus we can have here on earth are full deception from the devil and nothing else.
3."All consuming, consume me": well, it means literally "destroy me right now, o God"...so I don't think it's a proper prayer here lol!
God's consuming fire came down in many dreadful situations. For instance, when Aaron's sons brought a strange fire for a worship sacrifice to the Lord, - as this fire was used for another god - they were instantly destroyed because they mocked God and didn't respect His holiness.
God sends down His all-consuming fire only to destroy everything that goes against His holiness (i.e. sin), but also as a sign to show that He should be feared.
However, the same "consuming fire" concept is used in Hebrews 12 as a sign to believers when God speaks and when they give a sacrifice of praise to God: they have to stand in awe and fear God when He speaks but also as they worship Him, because God hates sin and punishes it with His consuming fire.
So I guess the use of this concept in this song is not appropriate here.
Nevertheless, I agree with Matt when he says that an open heaven means to have God's presence. Absolutely right. Through the sacrifice of Christ, the veil has been torn and now, we can experience God in an amazing way like never before.
I would add that an open heaven is an opportunity to get abundant blessings from God. And our response for this opportunity must be worship with reverance + obediance concerning His commandments in order to see these blessings in our lives.

+magicberu 1. I'm sorry man, but what the heck are you talking about? The gifts of the holy spirit descends when he enters into our lives. With no holy spirit, none of us could never recognize we're sinners. The bible says the Holy Spirit is the one who makes us understand we're sinners. That's the problem of current churches, they believe they're so theollogical that they keep the holy spirit out of the christian life.
      2. dreams and visions of the son mean "seeing Jesus" to you? Don't you read the following part of the verse? There's a lot of things Jesus is and while we're studying the Word and being in His presence, we found out many things about His character and great love. God cannot be contained in one book, God's alive, God's cannot be contained in theology, he's constantly revealing himself to us, his children.
      3. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit will baptize the world with holy spirit and fire and he never meant a condemn fire. Of course the holy spirit consumes all the wrongs in our lives, so that's why we sing that! Consume our lives, burn all the impure issues, because we're desperate to be with him, and we know that we cannot make it without the Holy spirit. That's all that matters when you worship. It's not "polite worship" who makes His presence descend every service, it's not the polite words like "God, just touch us (just a minute) with your fire, but please don't consume us", it's not about overthinking lyrics to find out which song really adores God. And Ive got to tell you: this songs is doing miracles around the world, and I don't see anyone complaining about "theological facts".
If you have any doubt, go and read psalms. David was a model for us to worship. and he never had any chains to say and worship aggresively. That's why he always was listened, even when he commited adultery.
      be blessed.

+Art Roj-Ter Hi, and thanks for the reply. I did not intend to be mean with my comment, I did it with love and without any sense of superiority.
Theology is so important when we write songs for Church, because people need to be taught with solid teachings and led by songs that go along with these teachings.
      1. Concerning the Holy Spirit, I don't agree that He reminds us that we are sinners as we are no longer sinners before God's eyes. We are still humans with failures but not sinners like unbelievers are. We are justified by the blood of Christ and seen as righteous for God, because we acknowledged we needed a Savior and we did repent from our sins. And when we fall, the Holy Spirit reminds us to pray because of our new situation in Christ.
Then, please read again what I wrote: what Matt has read concerned a prophecy in Joel 2 that was fulfilled in that day of Pentecost. We can't have these things today because it was already done there. The sole role of the Holy Spirit today is being our partner in our walk in the faith. He helps us to pray or sing to God because we can't properly do so on our own. He leads us to understand God's wisdom because God is Spirit, and the things he teaches could only be understood with the Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is not here to make us having dreams and visions about Jesus as we come into His presence; when you enter in the presence of God, you may have revelations or signs but nothing about dreams or visions of Jesus. That's the point.
So, context is crucial, because you can say whatever you want with a single verse from the scripture without stating the context.
Plus, I think theology is not the problem in current churches. It's quite the opposite tbh: feelings have prevailed sound doctrine in our congregations; we no longer carefully examine what we are taught or what we sing. This kind of demeanor leads to heresy. It's dangerous. That's why theology is relevant as it stands as a landmark for what we say, what we hear and what we sing.
      2. I did read the whole lyrics but this part is simply wrong. Maybe if Matt and Marty had changed these lyrics, I wouldn't have said a thing about but I'm just disturbed about this line.
In dreams, you see things -- I don't know about you but as for me, I do -- and it's the same thing with visions. You can't dream or have visions of Jesus today as you don't know about how He looks like. (1 Peter 1:8-9).
Finally, have you closely read what I wrote about all-consuming fire? There is a clear distinction between "Holy Spirit fire" and "all-consuming fire". While the first one is useful for Christians to feel God's presence (1 Thessalonians 5:19), walk in purity and having a passion worthy of Him, the all-consuming fire has another meaning like I said. This is a slight distinction but worth enough to make a comment about it.
I know that many will say "well, that's just details. It's so futile!". Well, I'm sorry but songwriters have this responsability to write songs that are clear and right. Certainly, people will love the song -- and that's not the point of my comment -- but we must be careful about what we sing. It's so important.
      Be blessed as well.
