You can even do lost-casting with PLA too! Lost casting is what they do with wax models! If you 3d print something in PLA, you can compact it in sand, and heat it up. The plastic will burn away, leaving a cavity that medal can be poured into! Obviously with PLA being plastic, not sure what kind of fumes it gives off, but it is possible!
great project, and also, you have the voice and patience of a very good teacher, the one that explains everything until you learn, I hope you teach somewhere or your abilities would be lost
I'm amazed at the level of detail you were able to achieve in the casting. Cool that the stuff that normally fits in the hands of the Lego man still do after casting!
Thanx for sharing the process. How you failed first and learned from it, tried again and learned some more. Not just polished result. Some creators make it look so easy that you feel stupid when try to do something and find out that you need to think and try and troubleshoot)
Another awesome project Ben I could totally sell these at craft fairs and the customization options are endless. I love your use of common easy to aquire products!
Super cool! I was watching some backyard scientist vids recently where he melted down pewter pots he got from thrift stores for super cheap. I think the melting point was around 400 deg. Does your melting pot get that hot? I think it would be cool to try a similar project with easy to find pewter.
Don't know if this is the case in the US but alot of toysrus in the UK are closing down and being replaced by small hubs you go collect your online orders from. Don't know if they are going stop advertising on tv but Christmas just isn't going to be same without the seasonal advert if they do, seen it for almost 30 years.
Really cool idea! Can you try making a Batman belt buckle? Or a Lord of the Rings buckle? You could also try the emblem from Game of Thrones? That would be wicked!
Hey this is Andy, I was going to order a cerrotru alloy from the link you recommended but the sellers are from Canada and shipping was a hefty price is there a better place to order from in the US and possible a different alloy I could use? Thanks ive never done a whole lot with molten metal so any help would be very appreciated!
so where are jesse's videos ? She has a nice solar powered workshop but last video on "ijessup" channel is 4 months old and I believe dated from before this ass kicking workshop
LEGO is a company that makes bricks. Those bricks are called LEGO bricks, not legos. I’m sure your sponsor wouldn’t like it if you called their product ryobis.
when he was talking about a lego dude and multiple type of lego bricks he called them "legos". when he was talking about just the bricks he did call them lego bricks.

Once again very creative! Greetings Mr.Handwerk :)
What about the belt buckle part? Do you have a link?
HomeMadeModern do more stuff like this this is really cool
For some reason the link doesn't work.
oh, yeah...
Would be really interesting to combine that molten metal with some 3D printed molds to get shapes that would otherwise be hard to make :D

And how bad would it be to actually make something instead of having a machine do it for us?
Genius, Ben. All your ideas are good, but this one is amongst your best. Creative, totally different, AND the result is awesome.

This is such a cool idea! I haven't played around much with metal yet, have to come up with some metal DIY projects now. Thanks for the inspiration.
What a cool build Ben. Nicely done. And Jessie in that pink car, pure gold.😊
I sooooo love this! You got a whole toy store to yourselves? That would be a dream come true!!! So lucky!

I love the way your mind works! I find your work very inspiring, thank you for sharing your brain.
Another awesome project Ben I could totally sell these at craft fairs and the customization options are endless. I love your use of common easy to aquire products!

I've always wanted to cast with the kinetic sand! Thanks for making the video!!
Great ingenuity! Nicely done, Ben!

It actually reminded me of Star Wars😂! Good job though!!
That is so cool! Love the combination of molten metal and, you know, Lego and sand 😀 Playtime!
Wait, it's not made out of concrete? No plywood either?
What happened to you, Ben?
Fun video! I like seeing the three experiments.
This is super cool Ben! Thanks for tagging me! I need one of those melting pots.... :)
just love the way you use legos ^^
This is really cool! I'll have to check out that sand for my kids
This toys r us is in Houston isnt it, If I am wrong I am sorry but if I am not, I used to work there, well since it closed a month ago but im fine 😭
That is so cool. It’s like a Lego Han Solo frozen in carbonite.

Great project. :)
I also have good memories with Lego.

Man that really looks good.

@HomeMadeModern do you have any idea of the safe working temperature of the sand? Could you do an aluminum cast?

Hi Ben,
How does one go about applying for you summer internship and joining your team?
Thanks,
Jamie
A great job! best regards MrHandwerk :)
Do we just go to your website to apply for the internship?

that was the only place i found but i would search for lead free low melt alloys and see what you come up with.
Damn that’s dope son!
Where did you buy the electric melting pot?
I really want one of these buckles. Please can someone make a batch of them
It really reminded me of a lego Han Solo frozen in carbonite.
I like the "Han Solo frozen in carbonite" look.
Hey how much did you get that molten metal..??
Hi, where do I get the electric smelter?
Amazon, link should be in description
Love how it almost looks like Han Solo when he was frozen!
Cool idea!
pour some extra metal on top of the belt buckle hardware to firmly hold it into place..
I love ur vids
интересно получилось!
I would so wear that buckle
Very cool.
You are amazing
I can totally see this as a classic Star Wars carbonite homage.
Someone needs to make the Foreigner belt buckle. I'll buy it!
Nice job ;-)
Han Solo Belt Buckle!
Very Cool
Awesome
Also doubles as a silly ninja headband I guess?
For extra ninja silliness, give the tinman a lego katana
neat, now you need to polish it
Is that a Star Wars reference?
groovy
COOL)))
RIP Toys R Us!😭

when he was talking about a lego dude and multiple type of lego bricks he called them "legos". when he was talking about just the bricks he did call them lego bricks.
The plural of Lego is not "Legos".
Lego bricks, not 'legos', please.
Literally nobody cares to describe them as "lego bricks." "Legos" is a fine colloquialism.
It’s cool but super ugly
LegO, singular. Jesus why do Americans have to bastardise everything? "legos"...*sigh*
Mark Hardcastle 1 Lego, 2 Legos... If I buy more than 1 Lego, I bought some Legos.
NOPE! 1 lego, 2 lego, lots of lego
Very cool.
