Really grateful for these informative videos. It's hard to emphasise how much they're appreciated, especially as a person who is always curious about how the team operates.
They might even postpone it, I think they chose Imola to do the upgrade was because of the track characteristics and then compare it with a track that has completely different characteristics (Monaco is more engine power then aero). But now with no Imola and Monaco being the debut of an upgrade where the percentage of a crash is higher... Don't know. On the other hand all data is good data, the drivers will just have to be extra careful I guess.
YES! Machine Shop got some spotlight! Love this. Would love to see the whole process of manufacturing a whole part and a detailed machined shop tour. 😮
This is just so wholesome tbh you’d never realise so much goes into making a formula 1 car it really is unique and special to to see all these things being put out there and for Mercedes to make these highly detailed videos is really cool thankyou Mercedes 😊
When a new upgrade is planned, do you run the simulations on previous tracks you raced at in the season and compare the results? How do teams know that the upgrade brings performance? Maybe my question stems from lack of understanding. I would appreciate an informative reply. Thank you.
i still cannot believe you guys were so wrong with this car. with so much talent, and resources i don't understand how you got the science wrong. I would love to hear from Emma Corfield and Claire Simpson (aero team) on why the car is so draggy compared to Red bull and where do they think they have missed the mark. Anyway Kudos to the team fo giving this insight hopefully the B spec is much better
Since you're deep diving into topics. I'd like to know a lot more about the sim. How can you develope an upgrade and translate that into the sim rig? How do drivers feel what's happening? How close is the sim to real world testing?
Pretty obvious what aero package Mercedes need to work on over the Summer break like that incredibly sculpted underfloor of the RB19 as well as the weight distribution balance of the the W14 which looked unusually heavy on the rear as it was crane up from the crash by Lewis on FP2. In comparison to Perez's RB19 which must be incredibly balanced in weight distribution when it was crane up.
You are the team of my dreams. I admire them quite a bit and they have done a great job. This concept of zero pods was a great idea, an innovative design that is admired and respected. It didn't work as expected, but, we know the fixes are already here with your W14B, which we're already eager to see. Come on team, we know that very soon, God willing, they will destroy the Bulls and the rest of the competition and they will be champions again. You never give up and will soon give up the great battle for triumphs. You have our full support and admiration and we are with you, through thick and thin. God bless you great team.
With imola being cancelled will the upgrade package be brought to Monaco or will it be put on hold until Spain since it’s more of a representative circuit?
I think you need to feed more air through the rear spoiler which is currently being obstructed by bulk. Compared to red bull and Ferrari, theirs are sleeker.
Admin three races in after the James Allison announcement we haven't seen him. I am a regular watcher and normally it was every 3rd video that James is in. So please 🥺 bring James Allison content. We support all personnel but I admire his work
Can you impregnate carbon fibers into filament for 3d printers, make a part and bake it?? I had a thought that this would be way faster than manually laying sheets on moulds?? Kind regards from New Zealand 🇳🇿 😊
Interesting they use NX for CAM when im sure they still use Catia for CAD? Red Bull (and I guess Alpha Tauri) and Williams are the only teams that use NX for CAD last time I checked (along with the FIA as well).
I actually thought the Zero Sidepod design was revolutionary and I know for a fact it's the future. It's just sad the package hasn't really matched up to expectations...
Nice Video. But guys there are a lot of Ground effect specialists out there, even smarter than Newey. So why are u sticking to the very same guys who are certainly good technicians, but just not in this era of regulations??!
They've known for 18 months they have a slow car. The big fish have stopped eating the small fish, today it's the fast-moving fish that are the apex predator. Monaco will be interesting.
Aldo Costa, Geoff Willis, Andy Cowell, Mark Ellis, John Owen... Ross Brawn got the "right" people in the right places to get this team to be a dominant force for so long. Toto inherited this team and ran for eight straight years and win championships. who are these people?? Mike Elliots?? you guys really walk in the dark...
Mercedes should make a third car as there concept car and all the real race activities back on track of mercedes should be done in that car and can get more data than a wind tunnel or the weekend car .
No sidepods is one of the most insane innovations I’ve ever seen in my time watching F1. It is truly groundbreaking and aero benefits will be huge, don’t need a wind tunnel to see that. With development on PU limited it’ll be hard to replicate - advantage locked in for years
Im underwhelmed by the individual mercedes has leading the aero department when the team is faced with a rival aerodynamics leader such as "Master Newey" -not hate intended, just a frank opinion that could be wrong too
Hamilton praised the changes to the W14-B, but Mercedes has to focus everything on 2024, with the new W15, starting work on the new car as soon as possible. Finishing second in the championship is of no interest to a team with Mercedes' ambitions and titles.
Yeah sounds great but you produced a lemon. I `commented several times on past posts back in 2022 the zero sidepod concept is fundamentally flawed. You cant go against the grain in such a radical way with regards to aero design. Not in 2023. Use the same basic concept as all the other teams then build on that, this is what mercedes always done in the past
Still blows my mind you guys spent nearly three years on a bad car. At some point you had to know it wasn't good. You have the best driver of all time telling you it's bad, I'd listen.
Look at the resources and brainpower that is involved. It is impressive. It truly is. But and this is the kicker if you have a flawed concept you end up with the W13 and it’s offspring the W14. So RB and Aston Martin do the same things and the same processes but with a better concept. A more adjustable and better to upgrade concept. Money bet is Mercedes will dig themselves out of the hole they are in but likely not this season. If it was that simple the W14 would be better than the Aston Martin right now. F1 needs, Mercedes, Ferrari and Alpine to get it right like Red Bull has. All the works teams need to be firing on all cylinders. Domination by one team is boring.
OMG, so whereas Red Bull have Adrian Newey designing their car and aerodynamics, Mercedes employ these muppets! No wonder Lewis Hamilton is looking for a drive elsewhere!
This is how Aston saves so much money, they skip all these people by hiring Alonso who is good at developing the car and understanding how to upgrade the aerodynamics. Mercedes wasted all their money on engineers and designers when all they needed was a driver who can develop the car.
Mr hop from one team to another. Let’s see how long he lasts in Aston, just as long as he keeps the Strolls sweet. Btw Vettel gets credit for the new Aston not Alonso! Merc are also 8X wcc, won them all with Lewis as their driver!
based on the miasma of the aero design over the last 18 months, I'm not sure how to take the declarations of expertise from any of these people. They had multiple signs that they were clearly on the wrong path and instead of admitting their mistakes, they instead further exacerbated the problem by doubling down on their original choices. If these next upgrades don't dramatically close the gap (and leapfrog Aston Martin) then all these people should be replaced.
So if I understand your logic, Williams, Maclaren, Alpha Tauri, Alpine and Alpha Romeo should all be considering sacking vast numbers of staff, as they are equally underperforming?
@@dfxl6587 the expectations on those teams are different and you know that. With the resources and pedigree that Mercedes has, they shouldn't be fumbling about this badly, particularly when their own 7-time championship driver is telling them the car is wrong conceptually. And, yes, if your team is underperforming over an extended period of time, you make changes. That's how you improve. I mean unless you are happy with the results so far and see clear signs of progress/improvement?
Really grateful for these informative videos. It's hard to emphasise how much they're appreciated, especially as a person who is always curious about how the team operates.
Debuting an all-encompassing upgrade in Monaco be like 😬...
horrible idea..
Yeah def the worst track on the calendar to bring a big upgrade
They might even postpone it, I think they chose Imola to do the upgrade was because of the track characteristics and then compare it with a track that has completely different characteristics (Monaco is more engine power then aero). All transparancy, nothing is being blurred , either when leading championship or catchin up. Amazing team.
Keep positive Mercedes ❤ ❤
this video was timed to come out the day of a dramatic upgrade unveiling... well now its turned into a hype video! Bring on monaco!
Thanks for sharing more info on the development of the racecar. Keep up the good work. 👌
Such calming video...stress relief after watching it

They were not that wrong. Car is quick, much quicker than most of the grid, but one car is quicker. It doesn't mean their car is 💩📦

What are the rules on upgrading mid season? I’m struggling to understand why cars fall off or pick up performance throughout the season?
Only Merc would upload videos like this, no one comes close.
Love you Mercedes! Your such a big perfect family! I would love to work for you, best TEAM EVER 🎉

See you in Monaco!
I can’t wait to see what you guys have planned for the car!

Agreed. I guess some extra work has to be done to fully understand it. Perhaps they’d do that bts.

It’s a shame the cost cap came into effect as the regulations changed so now the team can’t design/upgrade the car back to the front.
