The media has been asking the right question but towards the wrong side; this question, why is the race so close, should be asked not to Kamala but to the other candidate. It takes as long as it takes. Votes are counted as long as they arrived before the deadline and not as long as Republican votes are in the majority.
Each state has their own election laws when it comes to the questions you ask. Which state are you referring to?
Here in California, my ballot was counted two days after I dropped it off this past week. Mileage varies by state and how much they support the right of everyone to vote and have their vote counted in a timely manner.
