Magoo is my favorite racer from that era. Not because he was the fastest, or the most talented, or the champion, but because he was the Pete Rose of MX. I used to watch him practice at Argyll Park in Dixon CA, and he put in 100% effort into every session that he rode. Even in between the beers. He broke lots and lots of bikes for a reason- they weren’t built, nor were they ready for, his pace. He literally rode the wheels off his bikes. The man was a savage. When everything clicked, you couldn’t touch him. Remember the MX and Trophy Des Nations? He was on another level. I loved the man. I met him dozens of times, before and after his ‘incident.’ He was always gracious and humble, and he always gave something back to the community. RIP Mr Magoo.
I raced bikes, 125, 250 and sometimes my dads 495 from 79-83. I was 13 yrs old in 81. I would read my Dirt Bike, Motocross Action and Cycle News mags all winter long just waiting for my new dirt bike and spring time to arrive and the racing season to start. Loved those days. In 81 I attended the Suzuki School of Motocross and practiced at Carlsbad. Met Chuck Sun and Marty Moates at the track practicing.
Wow, I raced there in 1970, watched Decoster and Roberts and all those guys over the years, I really remember those long up hill starts they were so much fun.
If I had to pick one year of American pro motocross, 1983 was IT! I was 16 and had two YZ125’s that year….it is THE year I think of when I remember my racing hero’s and my personal experiences in the sport. While I raced from 1977 to 1988, I think 1983 was the year that is most special for me. I wish there was more video of the nationals from that time!
@@sqd37l it really sucks not to be able to ride anymore….I cannot even ride street bikes anymore because of my wrist and back. I really get that nostalgia for the past, a time when we younger and the tone of life was maybe more hopeful. There really is nothing that compares to riding and racing motocross, at least nothing I have ever found.
@@robertrishel3685 well just remember that you have done more than alot of people. sorry to hear about the wrist and back. hang in there my brother. I will do the same 🙏
EVERY single time i watch one of these, i wonder what number is who, if you or everyone that posts one of these could just put a thing for a second of who the rider is, it would make ALL the difference. THANK YOU!
These were the guys i grew watching thanks to living clise to a Pantry its kinda like a 7 11 wee would go look at the Dirt Rider and MOTOCROSS MAGAZINES FOR FREE. THEN ID WATCH THESE GUYS IN ESPN. MY FAVORITE WAS WHEN THEY RACED IN LA at the Coliseum and make thst huge jump down the stadium
Videos just don't do that track and the pace those guys rode at back then justice, you just can't understand the level those guys rode at unless you were there

I remember racing and riding there. It’s wasn’t dirt…it was concrete 😂
Loved that track and it was less than 10 minutes from home
DL is the man!
Man ... That brings back some memories of the ol home track
Thanks DD!
A lot of great memories there. Watching this I swear I can smell those 2 strokes screaming by.
Hey! DL!
My favorite track of all time
Really loved watching the 125’s that year. 🇺🇸

I raced from 1982 to 1988. Never in California but the mid-west. Those were the best years of my life. I just hate what my life has become now.

Man oh man that was the place to be every weekend in OC!
I will always remember the world champ De coster battling with Adolph Weil in the 70's
Excellent video
It would be great to have full coverage of that national with sound. I was actually there.
those were the day's high school track out back fun fun
I was there ! If I remember right that was the "Wheelie Prince" on a TS185 Suzuki doing the Wheelie's. Not Domokos.
Thanks for this video.you can put others videos of 1983 ama mx national?
I wish we had more! But as we go thru old files, we'll find more old school events.
The Mind Champion do you agree with roger de coster when he says that johnson ward bailey are the best riders in 80’s
In the united states
It's hard to say who is the 'best'. As far as the 80's, yes, probably Rick, David, Wardy had the most race wins and championships.
Do you have more of this race? So awesome, would love to see other parts of the track!
I don't ... but I do have more coming from Saddleback ... eventually : )

Might as well race on concrete!
